    Beautiful campus, excellent amenities, staff

I was very impressed - a beautiful, well-kept campus with roomy, spotless apartments and a lovely dining room (amazing Sunday brunch). The amenities are exceptional (pool, theater, library, wood shop, weight room, activities and outings), and the staff and nurses are friendly, caring and responsive; I would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Jefferson's Ferry is presented as an upscale continuing-care campus with a broad set of services and amenities. Reviewers consistently cite strong clinical resources and continuity of care, including attentive nursing and access to substantial on-site healthcare services. The community's grounds, contemporary apartment finishes, and a wide menu of amenities — such as a pool, movie theater, wood shop, fitness facilities, library, dining venues, and scheduled activities — contribute to an atmosphere that many describe as comfortable and well appointed.

Staff interactions are a customary strength in the feedback: personnel are described as friendly, caring, and accommodating, and several accounts emphasize helpfulness from dining, retail, and clinical teams. The dining experience is repeatedly highlighted for its formal dining room, quality meals, and notable brunch offerings; ancillary services such as a snack bar, on-site stores, and a shuttle to local supermarkets add convenience. Activity programming appears robust, with frequent social and recreational options that support resident engagement.

Cost and access are recurring considerations. The community carries a substantial upfront buy-in and relatively high monthly maintenance fees, with mentions of periodic fee increases. Prospective residents and families may need to weigh these financial commitments against perceived value, since opinions vary on whether the cost matches expectations. Availability constraints for certain housing types, especially cottages, and parking limitations related to the campus’s urban location are additional practical factors to assess during a tour.

Operational and facility-level issues are noted alongside positive assessments. Several accounts indicate variability in staff responsiveness in specific situations and raise concerns about the memory-care wing’s more institutional atmosphere. Maintenance and building-durability issues — such as leaks or finish problems — have been cited, and isolated failures of safety-related systems (for example, emergency alert functionality and elevator safety) point to potential gaps in emergency-response reliability and ongoing facility upkeep. These observations suggest it is prudent for prospective residents to ask detailed questions about safety systems, maintenance protocols, and recent capital improvements.

In summary, Jefferson's Ferry appears to offer a high level of clinical capability, a comprehensive amenity set, and a polished living environment that will appeal to those seeking an upper-tier continuing-care campus near major medical resources. At the same time, families should evaluate the financial model, inquire about the memory-care environment, and review maintenance and safety records during their decision process to ensure the community’s operational practices align with their expectations and needs.

    About Jefferson's Ferry

Jefferson's Ferry sits on 50 acres in South Setauket, New York, and has served seniors since 2001 as a not-for-profit community supported by Mather Health System, and when you walk through, you'll see the place covers most needs for older adults, from those who live independently to those needing daily health care, memory care, or rehab. Residents here pick from studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments or even cottages with private bathrooms and wheelchair-accessible showers, and everything's put together to make life easier, like air conditioning, Wi-Fi, laundry, meal service, a movie theater, fitness centers, indoor and outdoor gardens, a swimming pool, and spaces for art and games. The Vincent Bove Health Center, which has a 5-star rating from CMS, offers skilled nursing, assisted living, and memory care, plus short-term rehab for seniors who need help after a hospital visit but aren't ready to go home.

Care options stretch from help with basic living-like bathing, meals, and moving from bed to chair-to full nursing home care for those who need it, with nurses around up to 16 hours a day, 24-hour supervision, and an emergency call system in every room. Memory care is secure, with technology like bracelets and trained staff for people with Alzheimer's or other dementia, and they have staff who speak Spanish and an onsite doctor, nurses, and visiting therapists. Whether someone needs diabetic care, bladder help, or just occasional reminders, the staff handles it, with choices for short-term stays or aging in place. There's independent living for seniors who want to keep busy without worrying about housekeeping, meals, or transportation, but skilled nursing and memory care are also available, so moving out when care needs change isn't necessary.

The place keeps up social life, too: there are daily activities onsite and offsite, fitness and wellness programs like yoga and Tai Chi, community outings, games, music, gardening, and Sunday brunches in restaurant-style dining rooms, so folks stay connected and engaged. There's a beauty salon, wood shop, library, common rooms, Wi-Fi everywhere, and transportation for errands or appointments. For residents and families, Jefferson's Ferry offers support services like home sale help, move-in coordination, VA benefits consulting, and an affordability calculator to plan ahead, and the staff operates with conscience and skill, doing their best to show respect and kindness every day.

Bove Health Center's dedicated team can assist with higher needs-people who have problems moving around, need injections, or help with personal care-and there are always staff available for emergencies. They've got a community that isn't too big (about 60 residents), so it can feel personal and easy to know neighbors and staff, and the grounds are set up for both privacy and community socializing, with walking trails, outdoor common areas, and plenty of easy sitting spaces.

The environment is intentionally built to bring comfort, safety, and opportunities for both quiet and involvement, and you'll find activities for every interest, with meals designed to be healthy and tasty (including vegetarian or special diet options). Families can stay up to date through the community's blog, check pictures online, or visit for community events, and the front desk helps with questions. With everything from simple independent living to higher medical care in one setting, Jefferson's Ferry allows folks to stay put as needs change, backed by a skilled, caring team and a comfortable, clean environment.
