    Welcoming well-maintained community with amenities

I toured the community and was very impressed - welcoming, inclusive residents and professional, supportive staff made new arrivals feel at home. The building is beautiful, clean and well-maintained with lovely finishes, airy apartments, great common spaces (sitting area, conference room), excellent meals and a full activities calendar (pool, fitness, movies, operas, casino nights). My mom is very happy here and I'm excited to join this warm, engaging community created by the Sisters of St. Joseph.

    Summary of reviews

Shaker Pointe presents as an amenity-rich, well-appointed retirement community with a strong emphasis on social programming and a hotel-like residential environment. Reviewers consistently highlight spacious, airy apartments, attractive finishes, and a broad calendar of activities — from fitness and swimming to movies, operas, and casino-style events — that support an active lifestyle. Common areas, sitting spaces and conference rooms are described as clean and well maintained, and many residents and family members express a positive overall impression of the physical environment.

Staff and care-related comments are largely favorable in tone: staff are characterized as professional, supportive and welcoming, and the community is described as helpful to new residents. The facility’s faith-based sponsorship (Sisters of St Joseph) is noted as part of the community mission and value proposition for middle‑income retirees. That said, there are indications of limited informal staff–resident interaction outside scheduled activities; prospective residents should clarify staffing models and available one‑on‑one time to understand how much personalized attention is typical.

Dining and activities are clear strengths. Food quality is praised, and meal options alongside an active events calendar contribute to a social, engaging atmosphere. The availability of recreational amenities — including an indoor pool and fitness offerings — supports wellness programming. Many comments reflect satisfaction with organization and the social life, and some family members liken the living experience to upscale, hotel-like service.

Cost and operational consistency are the principal areas of concern. Price is frequently described as high relative to perceived value, and several impressions suggest that some amenities may be costly and underused. Maintenance quality appears uneven in a subset of observations, producing a contrast between otherwise well-kept common areas and occasional upkeep lapses. Prospective residents and families should verify current fee structures, ask about what is included in base pricing versus add‑ons, confirm the facility’s maintenance and preventive‑upkeep schedules, and review staffing levels and resident‑care expectations prior to committing.

    About Shaker Pointe

Shaker Pointe is a senior living community that offers different care types, so folks get help that fits their needs, whether they need medication management, non-ambulatory care, or 24-hour supervision with an around-the-clock call system and English-speaking caregivers, and you'll find dining services with a professional chef, a community dining room, meals for those with allergies or diabetes, plus choices for healthy eating. The community takes care of housekeeping, laundry, move-in support, landscaping, snow removal, and both inside and outside maintenance, and there's cleaning every other week, not to mention spring and fall deep cleaning so things stay in good shape without people worrying about chores. Residents can join in community-sponsored activities like movie nights and resident-run events, plus there's a fitness room, wellness programs, a spa, and outdoor activities, while walking paths, a game room, a library, an art room, music programs, and spaces for creativity all give people ways to keep busy or relax.

There's scheduled transportation to shops, medical appointments, and local events, with parking for those who drive, and Shaker Pointe includes a personalized emergency response system and campus-wide security. Apartments and homes here are bright and roomy, with open layouts, private bathrooms, kitchenettes, cable TV, Wi-Fi, heating and cooling, as well as 1- and 2-bedroom floor plans, some with attached garages. The community covers all utilities-including electricity, digital cable, internet, secure Wi-Fi, and phone service-so bills are simple, and life is a bit easier.

The Pointe serves as the community center, so people living in places like The Doane Brook apartments, The Spirit Tree apartments, The Courtyard's townhomes, or The Carriage Building with its gathering room and library, all have easy indoor access to amenities and group events without needing to go outside if folk don't want to, and there's The Cottage neighborhood where single-family homes each come with a garage of their own.

Shaker Pointe runs programs and events for art, history, and environmental causes, and there are a lot of resident-led enrichment groups, clubs, and committee meetings, so people stay active and make connections in ways that matter to them. The caring staff help with daily needs and support independence so residents have more time for what they enjoy instead of worrying about home upkeep, and the community goes out of its way to provide open, welcoming spaces for relaxing, entertaining, or enjoying hobbies with friends old and new.
