    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Asheville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center are highly polarized: a number of accounts highlight strong clinical services—particularly in rehabilitation/therapy—and point to individual nurses and therapists who provide attentive, competent care. Recent renovations and investment under new ownership are also cited as positive developments, and some families described clean rooms and satisfactory meal quality.

At the same time, recurring operational weaknesses appear across reviews and are likely to affect day-to-day resident experience. Staffing inconsistencies and apparent high turnover are a common theme; reviewers describe long waits for assistance, slow call-light responses, and stretched CNAs and nurses covering extra shifts. Those staffing patterns are linked to inconsistent personal-care routines (including delays in incontinence-related care and bathing), variable meal delivery, and instances where medications or medication schedules were perceived as mishandled.

Communication and workplace culture are another area of concern. Families reported difficulty getting timely updates about resident status, lengthy wait times to reach clinical staff, and challenges locating residents within the facility. Multiple comments describe an adversarial or unprofessional communication tone from some staff members. Separately, there are allegations of discriminatory treatment that warrant careful consideration and follow-up when evaluating the facility.

Facility condition feedback is mixed. While some observers note recent improvements and clean private rooms, others raise sanitation and odor concerns in shared spaces, stained or musty carpeting, and general cleanliness issues in parts of the building. These observations appear to vary by unit and shift, suggesting inconsistency in environmental maintenance practices.

Operational and administrative issues also surface: reviewers mention payroll and billing disputes, late pay to staff, and instances of payment-related friction with families. Those employment and financial-process concerns may be tied to staff morale and turnover, which in turn affect continuity of care.

For prospective residents and families: consider an in-person visit across different shifts, ask specific questions about current staffing ratios and turnover, request details on medication administration and tracking policies, review sanitation and infection-control procedures, and ask to see recent inspection or compliance reports. Also inquire about family communication protocols, escalation pathways for concerns, and any actions taken by management following the recent renovations and ownership changes. These steps can help clarify whether the facility’s positive clinical attributes are paired with reliable operational practices for the needs of your loved one.

About Asheville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center

Asheville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at 91 Victoria Road in Asheville, NC, sits in the heart of the city and provides a wide range of senior living options, focusing on nursing home care, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, and rehabilitative care, and you'll find 120 skilled nursing beds there always ready and staffed for both short- and long-term stays because seniors often arrive with different health needs, and some need a lot of help daily, while others want to keep as much independence as possible, which is why the staff offers things like help with medication, meals, personal care, and rehabilitation services, even wound care, and creates specialized treatment plans in cooperation with physicians for people with complex health conditions, especially when it comes to ongoing cancer care or mental health support from psychiatrists and psychoanalysts, since some folks come in needing more than physical care, and the memory care section has safe spaces and 24-hour support for residents living with Alzheimer's or dementia, while assisted living sections offer help as needed but still aim for seniors to remain as independent as they want, and they do have respite stays for caregivers seeking a short break, and you'll see the buildings and rooms set up with privacy in mind, always clean, and the food gets talked about for being better than most places, and there's plenty of amenities for leisure, relaxation, and social activities, trying to keep life bright for everyone living there and giving a sense of family, which is important since the center, now part of Elevate Health & Rehabilitation, sees itself as extended family for its residents, with a warm and caring philosophy led by administrator Kimberly Smith, and there's a focus on person-centered care, letting each resident get a plan that matches their own personal needs, and the staff keeps a strong partnership with family members so everyone is clear about health goals and care updates, all while trying to maximize comfort, support, and quality of life as much as possible.
