    Comfortable living with excellent care

I moved to Ridgecrest and I'm very pleased - the food is excellent, the chef and cooks are responsive, and my apartment is comfortable and well-appointed. The staff are outstanding, knowledgeable and genuinely caring; the community feels like home with abundant activities (daily exercise, swimming, live music, outings), strong resident leadership and pet-friendly policies. Consolidated monthly billing, on-campus continuum of care, nearby hospital/rehab and a clean, secure environment give me independence and real peace of mind.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: RidgeCrest is described as a well‑maintained, community‑oriented senior living campus with a strong emphasis on wellness, social engagement, and continuity of care. Many comments highlight a welcoming atmosphere, long‑tenured staff, and a range of services that support independent living through to higher levels of care. The facility's structure and amenities are oriented toward active aging and family peace of mind.

Care and staff: Reviewers emphasize compassionate, responsive staff and stable leadership. Long tenures among employees and familiarity with residents are repeatedly noted, and staff responsiveness in medical or fall‑related situations is described as prompt. The on‑campus rehabilitation program and connections to nearby medical resources including a hospital are seen as meaningful additions to clinical continuity and family reassurance.

Dining and nutrition: Dining is frequently praised for quality, variety, and rotating weekly specials; reviewers mention a welcoming chef and social dining experiences. At the same time, accounts point to occasional inconsistency in dining‑room service and variability in food quality. Several comments also highlight that menus can be calorie‑dense, which some residents found contributed to unwanted weight gain. These factors suggest strengths in menu creativity and experience, alongside operational inconsistencies that may affect individual satisfaction and nutrition outcomes.

Activities and wellness: RidgeCrest offers a broad activity calendar including daily exercise classes, specialized wellness programming, live music, bus trips, bingo, and resident‑led initiatives. The wellness program and exercise staff are repeatedly described as organized and motivating, with reported gains in mobility and engagement. Resident governance and volunteer opportunities further support social integration and leadership.

Facilities and amenities: The physical campus and apartments are generally described as clean, attractive, and well kept. Housekeeping and maintenance services are included, easing daily living tasks for residents. The campus is pet friendly and provides entertainment and common‑area programming. Some reviewers noted variability in maintenance attention or activity availability in specific areas, indicating occasional operational gaps.

Management and finance: RidgeCrest's financial model — no entrance fee, month‑to‑month leases, and consolidated monthly billing — is highlighted as a convenience and selling point. However, annual rate increases were noted as a recurring issue affecting long‑term affordability for some households. Additionally, changes to guest‑stay accommodations were missed by residents and families, indicating a potential reduction or limitation in overnight guest capacity.

Notable patterns and tradeoffs: The dominant themes are strong staff engagement, a proactive wellness culture, and an active social environment paired with reliable clinical access. Tradeoffs include occasional service variability (especially in dining), potential dietary management concerns, and predictable cost escalation over time. Prospective residents and families should weigh the benefits of the active community, continuity of care, and included services against the facility's pricing trajectory and any personal preferences regarding dining consistency and overnight guest options.

    About RidgeCrest

RidgeCrest sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains at 1000 RidgeCrest Lane, Mt. Airy, North Carolina, where you'll find a mix of independent living villas and apartments with one- or two-bedroom plans, assisted living rooms, skilled nursing and rehab suites, and Alzheimer's and memory care units, all on one big campus. Folks can enjoy the mountain views from the west side and walk along well-lit paths, and there's always a friendly face out and about, including a full-time Wellness Director, a Social Director for planning outings and events, and staff awake and available day or night for anything you need.

People who live at RidgeCrest get help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and getting to meals, and there's always nursing staff or care team members nearby. The memory care area's secure and set up to meet the needs of people with Alzheimer's or other memory problems, with programs and activities that help with memory and keep everyone safe. Rehabilitation, wound care, and long-term medical help are available for those that need a higher level of care, and the team helps with medicine, managing health conditions like diabetes, and all kinds of personal support, though folks need to handle their own insulin if they use it. Weekly housekeeping and deep cleaning make life easier, along with scheduled rides anywhere in the area and a bill payment service to take care of paperwork. RidgeCrest also has maintenance staff for repairs, landscaping, plumbing, and electrical jobs, so no one needs to worry about home upkeep anymore.

The dining rooms at RidgeCrest serve healthy meals every day with menu options that include daily specials, fine and casual dining, and even carefully picked wine, beer, and spirits if you want them. There's a full calendar of things to do, from exercise classes, walking groups, and book clubs to happy hours, prayer meetings, clubs like the Resident Advisory Council or Kiwanis, and other social gatherings. The Wellness Program offers both individual and group classes, and the fitness area lets folks set personal health goals. The campus has indoor and outdoor common spaces, a library, and gathering rooms to make it easy to meet neighbors, talk, or join in activities. Devotional services take place both on and off site.

RidgeCrest welcomes people 55 and up, and small pets are allowed in the pet-friendly areas so you can bring your companion. If you use a wheelchair, all the facilities have accessible showers and spaces, and help's available for transfers and getting around safely. The security system runs all day and night, with an emergency call system so help is right there when needed. There's resident parking and a concierge service, and families can choose from studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom layouts as well as single-family home lots. Residents are allowed to bring their own furniture to feel at home.

RidgeCrest belongs to the Senior Living Communities network, connecting it to locations in several other states including South Carolina, North Carolina, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, and Indiana. The payment options accept private pay, social security, veteran's benefits, and commercial insurance, along with different care packages for community, respite, and varying levels of support. The campus promotes staying active and social, with activities and outings planned throughout the week and a team of compassionate caregivers who put people first. RidgeCrest offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and short- or long-term care, all in one community where residents can enjoy mountain views and the relaxed pace of a Life Plan Community.
