    Compassionate attentive staff, clean facility

I'm very pleased with my loved one's stay - the staff are compassionate, attentive, and communicative, with nurses and techs available around the clock. Rooms, shared bathrooms and the dementia unit are clean and well-maintained (no odors), meals have good variety, and daily bathing, rehab, barber and laundry services are handled with dignity and professionalism. The team made our transition from the VA smooth, explained care clearly, and I would recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for Harnett Woods Nursing and Rehab describe a facility with a mixture of clearly positive strengths and recurring operational weaknesses. Many families and residents praise the compassionate, hands-on nature of nursing care, citing respectful staff–resident interactions, attentive nurses and technicians, and clear communication about medical needs and expectations. Specific services such as daily bathing done with dignity, on-site barber and laundry services, and accessible rehabilitation were highlighted as important assets. The dementia/Alzheimer’s unit and several common areas were frequently described as clean and well-maintained, with activity options and TVs contributing to a lived-in, everyday atmosphere rather than a staged environment.

Dining and therapy experiences are generally described positively: reviewers often noted varied meal options and well-prepared food, and several accounts referenced constructive, recovery-focused therapy. At the same time, delivery of therapy and rehabilitative services appears inconsistent for some residents, with isolated reports of planned therapy not being completed. Activity programming and social amenities are present and visible, supporting engagement for residents who are able to participate.

Facility condition and environmental management show a mixed picture. Many reviewers described clean rooms, a fresh scent, and functioning equipment and plumbing; areas were being refreshed and maintenance performed. However, there are recurring concerns about housekeeping consistency and pest control in certain units, along with comments that parts of the building feel worn and not the newest. The facility layout includes shared bathrooms in some double rooms, which is a notable feature families should be aware of.

A key area of concern is operational reliability and management controls. Multiple reviewers described inconsistent staffing levels, reliance on agency staff with variable professionalism, and delays in responding to call bells or urgent needs. These issues are linked to reports of gaps in incontinence-care and bathing schedules and potential risks to skin integrity for some residents. Communication-tone issues at reception and with some staff members were also noted. More serious are concerns about billing and documentation practices: reviews reference continued billing after a resident’s death and incorrect documentation on a death certificate, prompting calls for internal investigation. There are also allegations of theft and improper financial handling raised in a limited number of accounts.

In summary, Harnett Woods offers strengths that include compassionate direct-care staff, visible cleaning and maintenance in many areas, on-site personal services, and active dining and activity programs. Prospective residents and families should weigh these positives against operational inconsistencies: variable staffing and training, responsiveness gaps, housekeeping and pest-control variability, and documented concerns about billing and documentation controls. Visitors and decision-makers may find it helpful to ask specific questions about staffing ratios, agency-staff use, infection- and pest-control records, therapy schedules, and the facility’s billing and documentation procedures when evaluating placement.
