    Attentive staff helped regain independence

I came here for short-term rehab and was very pleased-attentive, caring staff (Michelle and Courtney stood out), quick nurses, excellent therapists and a proactive doctor/PA helped me regain mobility and independence. The facility is clean and odor-free, beautifully on the waterfront, with warm meals from a weekly menu, helpful admissions, nice activities/salon/gym, and a family-like team that gave me real peace of mind.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a polarized picture of Woodbury Wellness Center: many families and short-term rehabilitation patients praise the clinical teams and therapy outcomes, while others describe persistent operational and leadership weaknesses. The facility has clear strengths in rehabilitation and individualized clinical services. Reviewers frequently cited skilled physical, occupational and speech therapy staff, proactive on-site medical checks, and successful short-term rehab outcomes that enabled return home. Multiple comments highlight compassionate bedside care, nurses and caregivers who know residents by name, spiritual offerings and an active activities program that includes outdoor time, salon services and a structured weekly menu.

Dining and amenities receive mixed but specific praise. Several reviewers noted professional dining service, personalized nutrition plans, warm meal options and a pleasant waterfront location with clean, modern common areas. Admissions and front-line staff are often described as welcoming and informative. The facility’s rehabilitation gym and therapy resources are cited as a particular asset for restorative care and short-term stays.

However, a number of operational concerns recur across reviews. Leadership and management consistency are frequent themes: families report uneven communication, accountability gaps, and variable responsiveness from administration. Staffing instability—including high turnover and shortages—appears to affect shift-to-shift consistency, producing delayed call responses, inconsistent clinical oversight, and interruptions in routine care tasks. Reviewers also raised concerns about medication administration and refill processes, housekeeping and laundry reliability, and inconsistent meal delivery and temperature control.

Facility maintenance and safety are additional areas of concern. While many describe the interior as clean and well maintained, others cited deferred maintenance and safety hazards that warrant attention. Reviewers also noted workplace-culture issues that affect staff morale and conduct, and flagged gaps in personal-property controls and billing transparency. There are mentions of infection-control inconsistencies and testing delays, as well as environmental concerns such as smoking exposure in dining areas and the presence of resident animals that could affect allergies.

Taken together, the pattern suggests that residents and families may experience very different levels of service depending on unit, shift and individual staff assignments. Prospective residents and their families should weigh the facility’s demonstrated strengths in rehabilitation and personalized clinical care against the described variability in management, staffing continuity, and operational execution. For decision-making, consider touring the specific unit, asking about staff-to-resident ratios, maintenance and safety protocols, medication and property-management procedures, and requesting recent inspection or staffing-stability information. Note that some reviewers raised isolated serious allegations, which families may wish to clarify with administration or through regulatory channels before making a placement decision.

    About Woodbury Wellness Center

Woodbury Wellness Center sits in Hampstead, North Carolina, at 2778 Country Club Drive, offering both a calm, homelike setting and many types of senior care. The campus has 112 skilled nursing beds and provides skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, short-term and long-term rehabilitation, respite care, and outpatient rehab. Seniors can also get independent apartment living, in-home care, and hospice care. Woodbury operates privately, having opened back in 1998, and's known for high standards in care, good housekeeping, and friendly staff. There's a peaceful feel with gardens, outdoor sitting spaces, and a sense of community that helps everyone feel at ease.

The care options fit many needs, from help with daily tasks to more involved nursing care. The center keeps physicians, registered nurses, and aides on-site all day and night, ready for emergencies, with direct ties to New Hanover Medical Center. Memory care and dementia services are available, too, including the Stonebridge at Woodbury community, which focuses on tailored routines and safety. Rehab teams work with residents recovering from surgery or illness, making care plans that change as needs do.

A Director of Nursing named Kyna Rose and Medical Director Dr. Michael Rallis oversee care, while Judith Bullard serves as administrator. Other key staff include Cheryl Cobb (Environmental Services), John Lawrence (Maintenance), Reneé Pridgen (Business Office Manager), Sarah Abbitt (Registered Dietitian), Joe Floch (Food Service Director), Elizabeth Kessler (Director of Therapy), Rosemary Guerrero (Director of Hospitality), Amy Watters (Life Enrichment/Activities Director), and Erin Wengler (Director of Resident Services). Staff try to show kindness and good humor, with many reviews mentioning the clean, cheerful environment and helpful care.

Residents live in private, semi-private, or companion suites with their own climate controls, and rooms come furnished if needed. There's a Life Enrichment Program and activities led by trained recreational therapists, who guide daily social and recreational events like bingo, exercise, crafts, music, cooking demos, and magic shows. The facility often holds outings to restaurants, shops, and museums, along with pet therapy visits and spiritual activities.

The dining team from Culinary Services Group prepares made-from-scratch meals in a restaurant-style setting, focusing on nutrition and taste. Residents can enjoy à la carte snacks, drinks, and desserts at the Hideaway Pub any time. Weekly visits to the on-site hair salon and spa are handled by a licensed cosmetologist, and staff do laundry and housekeeping. Free Wi-Fi, scheduled transportation, and landscaped gardens round out the everyday comforts.

There's a focus on keeping seniors engaged and autonomous, with programs designed to suit personal interests, physical needs, and emotional well-being. Activities and event calendars for both Stonebridge and Woodbury keep residents connected and active. The community takes fair housing and equal opportunity seriously and maintains affiliation with the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association. Staff are available 24 hours a day, making sure support and emergency care are always there. The goal is to care well for each person, helping them stay safe, active, and as independent as possible in a place that feels a bit like home.
