    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Harborview Lumberton present a mixed picture with clear strengths around person-centered care and several persistent operational concerns. On the positive side, many families and visitors highlight compassionate, attentive staffโ€”particularly in memory-care unitsโ€”and describe residents as well cared for, neatly groomed, and engaged. Therapy services receive favorable mention for supporting rehabilitation progress, and the facility offers a visible activity calendar with social programming (choir, group activities) that contributes to an engaged atmosphere. Several accounts also praise end-of-life support and individualized attention from specific caregivers. Renovations are underway in parts of the building, and interior common areas are often described as clean.

Care and staff patterns show a split. Numerous comments reflect respectful, helpful, and communicative caregivers who provide personalized attention; however, other accounts point to inconsistent staff conduct, lapses in responsiveness, and variability in staffing levels. Operationally this appears as delayed responses to resident needs, uneven communication tone with families, and occasional lapses in how quickly incontinence care or basic checks are performed. A limited number of reviews raise serious concerns about care practices, including an allegation regarding physical-therapy technique; such items would warrant direct follow-up with management and review of incident documentation.

Dining and activities also receive mixed feedback. Several reviewers commend scheduled mealtimes and the kitchen staff, and others report good meal presentation and resident satisfaction. Conversely, some describe inconsistent food quality and an impersonal meal-service model that can feel rushed. Activities and memory-care programming are generally viewed as positive contributors to resident wellbeing, with multiple references to inclusive events and opportunities for socialization.

Facility condition and sanitation comments are mixed as well. Interior spaces are often called clean, but there are recurring sanitation and odor concerns in specific areas and mentions of pest-control issues on occasion. The building is described as older and in need of cosmetic updates in some exterior and common spaces; limited amenities such as recreational rooms were noted by families expecting more modern offerings. Renovation work is ongoing in parts of the campus, which some families view positively while others remain concerned about the pace and scope of improvements.

Management and administrative practices emerge as a key pattern: some families praise steady communication and regular updates, while others report gaps in notification, delayed follow-up on incidents, lost personal items, and promises that were not fulfilled. These operational weaknessesโ€”communication lapses, personal-item management, and inconsistent follow-throughโ€”are the most frequently cited drivers of dissatisfaction. Safety-related issues such as falls and concerns about transfer practices were mentioned and should be explored with facility leadership.

Overall, Harborview Lumberton appears to deliver meaningful strengths in memory care, individualized attention from many caregivers, and active programming, but the facility also demonstrates several systemic operational issues that prospective residents and families should evaluate closely. Recommended next steps for an on-site visit include asking for current staffing ratios, review of incident and communication protocols, sanitation and pest-control records, examples of recent quality-improvement actions related to dining and transfers, and a tour of both renovated and older areas to assess physical-condition variability firsthand.

    About Harborview Lumberton

Harborview Lumberton sits in North Carolina and has 122 skilled nursing beds, so it can serve a good number of people who need care, and people looking for a place for short-term rehab, long-term skilled nursing, memory care, or even active adult living can find a spot here, though not everyone needs the same level of help and some just come for adult day services or home care visits. The facility also gives a hand with home health care that's Medicare-certified, and offers hospice care right at home or in the facility, and folks who need therapy can use their physical, occupational, and speech rehab services-these are given by staff who work for the center, so residents see the same folks each time, which helps with comfort and trust. The place takes a person-centered approach, and the team, including an onsite physician and nurse practitioner around five days a week along with nurses every day, works with each family to sort out care plans, talk about needs, and look at discharge options or long-term goals, usually in a meeting within the first few days, plus they've got after-hours on-call support if something happens outside regular office times. Anna Williamson is the administrator, and the facility has strong leadership, keeps a focus on hiring caregivers who are kind and steady, and supports the staff so residents get steady, good care. Harborview Lumberton is a faith-based organization, so prayer is part of every care plan, and there's a belief that God has a hand in daily life and care. The community has outdoor covered sitting spaces, room to enjoy fresh air, and social programs for those who want to participate. Resident rooms are spacious, the dining service is considered first-class, and there's a free salon called Esteem Salon for hair care. The team walks everyone through the admissions process, helps with paperwork, and even offers electronic forms and e-signatures, and they're able to work well with doctors to manage medication and treatments right from hospital discharge. Harborview Lumberton is certified by Medicare and Medicaid, is a member of both the North Carolina Healthcare Association and the American Health Care Association, and provides various levels of care, from independent living all the way to support for Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, long-term living, outpatient therapy, respite care for short stays, and support for palliative needs at the end of life. Families can ask questions or schedule a tour any time, and the staff takes care to respect everyone's preferences, medical needs, and time, working together to help make the stay as comfortable as possible.
