    Pleased with Cambridge Hills care

I placed my mom at Cambridge Hills and have been very pleased - the staff are caring, knowledgeable and attentive, the facility is bright, clean and home-like, and the food and activities keep residents engaged. Communication with family has been strong, memory care is excellent, and they kept residents safe through the pandemic, so I'd recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression Cambridge Hills projects a small, home-like assisted living environment with clear strengths in caregiving, memory care, and community life. Many families describe the staff as compassionate and attentive, with a family-style atmosphere that makes residents feel known and included. The facility's private ownership and smaller scale are frequently cited as contributors to long-term staff–resident relationships, proactive administrative involvement, and personalized attention. Care quality and clinical oversight Clinical strengths include dedicated memory-care expertise, on-site therapy (PT/OT) availability, and coordination with hospice when needed. Reviewers commonly praise individualized attention and the nursing/med-tech teams who are familiar with residents. However, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent clinical follow-through and documentation, which can lead families to track care details themselves. A subset of comments also describe delays in attending to resident needs and variable bedside practices; prospective families should ask about staffing ratios, documentation procedures, and transfer-safety protocols. Staff and management The staff are frequently described as kind, patient, and stable, contributing to a family-like environment. Many reviews highlight proactive leadership and administrators who address concerns and remove staff who are not a good fit. At the same time, there are repeated remarks about inconsistent staff conduct, occasional rude interactions, and periods of short staffing that strain responsiveness. Administrative organization at the front desk and internal communications are sometimes characterized as chaotic; while leadership is generally viewed as engaged, operational communication can be uneven. Dining and nutrition Dining experiences elicit mixed feedback. Numerous families praise the food and report regular, engaging meal service; others mention episodes of poor meal quality and leftovers. Meal service consistency appears variable across time or dining periods. It would be prudent for prospective residents to sample meals and ask about menu planning, kitchen staffing, and substitutions for special diets. Activities and social life Activity programming is a clear strength: the facility offers varied daily activities, outings, music visits, pet therapy, gardens, and opportunities for family involvement. Memory-care areas are arranged to support engagement, and multiple halls with activity coordinators are noted. Some comments indicate that more physically active or younger seniors may need additional exercise or programming options, so activity fit should be discussed during a tour. Facilities and environment Physical spaces are frequently described as clean, bright, and well-maintained, with pleasant gathering areas, gardens, and a private wooded setting that families appreciate. At the same time, the building is acknowledged as aging in places: some rooms and hallways show wear, and room condition can be uneven. Sanitation and odor concerns in certain resident areas—often linked to incontinence-care delays—appear in enough accounts to warrant confirmation of current housekeeping and incontinence-care protocols during a visit. Notable patterns and practical considerations Common positive patterns are consistent compassionate care, strong family communication in many cases, robust activity programming, and an environment that many families recommend. Recurring operational weaknesses include intermittent staffing shortages, variability in meal quality, gaps in clinical follow-through, occasional sanitation/odor issues, and uneven administrative organization. The facility's semi-rural location and smaller scale are attractive to some families and less convenient to others. Recommendation for prospective families Cambridge Hills may be a good fit for families seeking a small, community-oriented assisted living with strong memory-care programming and active social engagement. During a visit, prospective families should evaluate: current staffing levels and ratios, transfer and bedside safety practices, clinical documentation and communication workflows, housekeeping and incontinence-care procedures, sample meals, and the condition of the specific room under consideration. Asking for recent examples of how the facility addressed prior concerns can help gauge operational consistency.

    About Cambridge Hills Assisted Living

Cambridge Hills Assisted Living sits in a quiet, wooded part of Pittsboro, North Carolina, where folks have been finding care and a home for more than 20 years. The place is family- and veteran-owned and is part of Silver Thread Communities, and people around here say the staff is caring, helpful, and always working hard to help residents feel at home, stay active, and enjoy their days. There are ninety beds in the main assisted living area, with a separate secured Memory Care wing for thirty-eight residents living with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia, offering both private and semi-private rooms, all with their own ADA bathrooms and wheelchair accessible showers, so residents who have difficulty walking can still get around with ease. Rooms have windows that look out over the grounds, people can set their room just how they like it, and everyone has control over their own heating and cooling.

Staff is available around the clock, with a Health Care Director ready to answer questions, a nurse on staff, and a doctor available when needed. Cambridge Hills handles a range of care needs, from those who just want a little help with daily activities to seniors who need more support, including care for diabetic residents who take insulin, help with incontinence or reminders to use the restroom, and specialized memory care for those who may wander, act out, or need behavioral support, using technology like alarm bracelets to keep residents safe. There's an emergency call system at every bed and bathroom, grab bars in the hallways, and a secure environment so people know each other and stay safe, especially those at risk of elopement.

Meals are made on site by a Dietary Manager, served three times each day, and they'll accommodate special diets if someone needs that, with guest meals available too, so families can share a meal with their loved ones now and then. Residents get help with laundry every week, and there's a beauty and barber shop on site so they can keep up with grooming. As for keeping busy, a full-time activity director arranges events like scenic drives, visits to Wal-Mart or the Farmers Market, trips to the zoo, bingo, exercise, gardening club, art and cooking classes, wine tasting, and word games. There's space inside and outside for socializing, including an enclosed garden for folks in memory care, plus devotional services for those who want them.

This community accepts seniors age 65 and older, with respite care and short-term stay options, along with hospice care when it's needed. Staff is trained for assisted transfers, including both single and two-person transfers or even mechanical lifts. Cambridge Hills takes residents with varying needs, even those who have trouble with behavior or need a secure place to prevent wandering, and the whole place is wheelchair accessible with wide common areas and easy-access bathrooms. They're set up to support aging in place, so residents don't have to move if their needs change, and the community accepts long-term care insurance, some Medicaid, but not Medicare. Residents and families have said the community offers flexible, quality service, and the program is known for keeping people active with activities and social opportunities. Residents pay a one-time community fee, cover monthly rent for private or semi-private rooms, and may have extra fees for higher care needs or respite stays, with a prorated refund offered based on when a resident moves out, as long as the family gives a 14-day notice first. There are transportation options, including parking for residents and visitors, as well as rides to local doctors' offices and events, either complimentary or for a fee. Technology like cable TV and Wi-Fi is included in the rooms, and there are pet-focused programs and pet therapy for those who like animal company. The community takes pride in helping people feel safe, respected, and engaged, with steady support and care tailored to each individual.
