    Compassionate, attentive care and communication

I'm very pleased with the care my family member received. The staff and management are outstanding - a caring administrator and DON, attentive nurses and social worker, friendly front desk (Nicki), reliable transportation, effective rehab, clean home-like rooms, great communication and proactive medical updates; I felt safe during COVID and appreciated the compassionate, family-like atmosphere.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewers present a mixed view of Curis Reidsville Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center, with clear strengths alongside several recurring operational concerns. Positive comments highlight warm, courteous interpersonal interactions, families who felt their loved ones were cared for, and specific caregivers who stood out for professionalism and compassion. Multiple accounts describe the facility as clean and well-maintained in many areas, and some families specifically noted improved operations and a better workplace environment following a change of ownership.

Care and clinical management: Feedback indicates variability in clinical processes. Positive accounts emphasize attentive, compassionate caregiving and good communication with families. Conversely, a number of reviews raise concerns about medication management (delayed or missed doses) and slow responsiveness from nurses and aides. These operational weaknesses appear connected to staffing levels: understaffing is cited as a likely contributor to extended wait times for assistance and inconsistent personal-care routines.

Staff and culture: Staff demeanor is a prominent theme. Many reviewers describe staff as friendly, helpful, and respectful — citing teamwork and informative family interactions. At the same time, others describe instances of brusque or discourteous interactions from some CNAs and lapses in follow-through on complaints. This pattern suggests variability in staff conduct and an uneven culture of responsiveness across shifts or teams.

Dining and activities: Reports about dining are mixed. Some reviewers appreciated attentive meal service, while others noted dirty dining tables, interruptions to meal continuity, and at least one example of missing or nonworking meal-preparation equipment. Reviews contain little consistent information about organized activities; where mentioned, the emphasis is more on mealtime and assistance than on a robust activity program.

Facilities and maintenance: The physical plant receives both praise and critique. Positive remarks point to clean common areas and a generally well-kept interior. Critical remarks raise sanitation concerns in specific areas, odor-control issues, cramped or overcrowded rooms, and maintenance lapses such as out-of-service equipment. Wheelchairs and equipment in rooms that reduce living space were noted, indicating space limitations for some residents.

Management and trends: Several reviewers refer to a change of ownership and attribute noticeable improvements to that transition, including better workplace conditions and enhanced operations. At the same time, organizational gaps remain: some families reported that complaints were not consistently documented or followed up, suggesting weaknesses in complaint-tracking and family-communication systems. The overall pattern is one of variability — locations and shifts may deliver high-quality, attentive care, but structural issues (staffing, maintenance, and consistency of clinical practices) contribute to uneven experiences.

Implications for families: Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s strengths — compassionate staff, evidence of cleanliness in many areas, and recent management improvements — against recurring operational concerns such as staffing adequacy, medication-management consistency, response times to requests, and space/maintenance limitations. If considering admission, families may want to ask about current staffing ratios, medication-administration protocols, complaint-tracking procedures, recent maintenance and odor-control actions, and opportunities to meet direct-care staff to assess consistency of care on the units of interest.

There are private and shared rooms, each with private bathrooms, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning, and the community has walkable paths and a garden, a fitness room, a library, and spaces for arts and exercise, all designed to give residents safe ways to stay active and engaged. Curis Reidsville provides medically supervised care and has a 24-hour call system for emergencies or help requests, and nurses are on duty 12 to 16 hours every day, with a physician providing supervision for residents who need more health support. The dining room serves meals by a professional chef, and staff prepare special menus for people with allergies or specific diets, while housekeeping, laundry, and move-in help are all part of regular services, and the community supports family communication and coordination. The center's programs include medication management and non-ambulatory care, and they're able to provide extra help for folks who need support moving around or with taking medicine. Medicaid and Medicare cover services here, and Curis Reidsville meets federal standards for nursing care and financial assistance. Residents and their families can take part in family support services and planned activities that help make daily life brighter and more predictable. The center belongs to a larger continuing care retirement community, so there are options for different levels of care if health needs change. Curis Reidsville aims to give a safe place to recover, supporting both health needs and social well-being for seniors after a hospital stay.
