    Friendly staff and well-maintained community

I live here and I'm very pleased. The staff are friendly, people-oriented, and consistently go above and beyond - low turnover means continuity of care and a real family atmosphere. The community is clean and well maintained, offers lots of activities and outings, tasty meals with diet accommodations, screened-in patios, and convenient on-site services (therapy, Medicare-accepted advanced care, transportation), with a strong COVID plan and excellent safety. Great value for the price - I'd recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Cardinal Retirement Village presents as a community with a strong social culture, extensive activity programming, and numerous practical amenities. Many families and residents described the environment as homey and welcoming, with landscaped grounds, screened-in patios, and a variety of communal spaces that support socialization. The facility includes an on-site chef, therapy services, transportation for errands and appointments, and multiple recreational options that appeal to a broad range of interests.

Care and staff: Staff behavior and caregiver compassion are frequently cited strengths. Reviewers emphasize staff who know residents by name, provide daily check-ins, and accommodate deliveries or special needs. At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns about staffing consistency: response delays to call lights, longer waits on weekends, and limited housekeeping frequency were described. These items point to a staffing-model constraint rather than isolated incidents, and they may affect response times and routine services during peak or off-hours.

Dining and activities: The community offers a chef-driven menu, freshly prepared meals, and a calendar of activities that includes exercise classes, musical entertainment, crafts, bus outings, and field trips. Activity programming is robust and is a clear social asset. However, dining experiences are inconsistent in quality for some residents, and independent-living meal plans vary (many units receive continental breakfast and dinner but limited lunch options). Infection-control events such as COVID precautions have occasionally curtailed dining-room use and group activities; reviewers expect these restrictions to relax as conditions permit but they have impacted communal dining and programming rhythm.

Facilities and maintenance: Physically, Cardinal combines recently remodeled apartments and bright common areas with older building elements. Private screened porches, patios, and accessible bathrooms are highlighted as strong features. Conversely, reviewers note dated hallways, inconsistent painting in some units, exterior landscaping and drainage issues (including porch guttering and exit safety), and ongoing construction or campus maintenance needs. These maintenance items are operational patterns that some potential residents may want to confirm during a tour.

Management, availability, and cost: Pricing is frequently described as budget-competitive for this level of service, though one-bedroom and assisted living transitions are more expensive and some families expressed concern about rent increases and perceived value. Availability constraints such as waitlists for studio units are common. Reviewers also identified uneven management follow-through on particular concerns and occasional front-desk or weekend coverage gaps; a few reviewers raised serious allegations concerning staff conduct and handling of resident property, which should prompt prospective residents and families to ask about incident resolution procedures and oversight during a tour or intake discussion.

Notable patterns and guidance for prospective families: Strengths to prioritize in a visit include meeting caregiving staff, sampling dining, attending an activity, and inspecting a unit’s porch and exterior exit for maintenance. Ask for specifics about staffing ratios, weekend coverage, housekeeping frequency, meal-plan options, and studio-unit wait times. For families concerned about higher-acuity needs, confirm the location and accessibility of assisted-living services on campus and how transitions are managed. Overall, Cardinal appears to offer a community-oriented, activity-rich independent living experience with practical amenities and value, while presenting operational trade-offs related to staffing consistency, some maintenance needs, and variable dining experiences.

    About Cardinal Retirement Village

Cardinal Retirement Village sits in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and has been offering senior housing since 1986, welcoming folks aged 55 and up, along with their small pets if they have them, and the place covers a lot of needs with independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing all in one secure spot. You'll find a range of apartments-large studios, one- and two-bedroom units-each with screened-in porches, full-size kitchens, private patios, and living spaces on a single level for easy access, and the bathrooms all have grab bars and walk-in showers. Some folks are independent while others get daily support, and the staff offer help with bathing, dressing, medication reminders, and other personal care, and Cardinal also provides specialized care for those with Alzheimer's and dementia, keeping the environment safe and easy to navigate to help reduce confusion and prevent wandering.

There's always something going on with a calendar of activities like music, dance shows, movie nights, gardening, bingo, and educational events, plus outings on the bus for shopping or entertainment and weekly trips for groceries or doctor visits, and when the weather's nice, you can stroll the landscaped grounds with flower gardens, putting green, and sitting areas. Religious services, beauty shop appointments, story time, resident musical groups, exercise classes, and arts or crafts are available, and active folks have lots of options for staying connected or making new friends in the library, game room, or computer area. The community serves chef-prepared meals in a dining room set with linens and glassware, and there's an in-house bistro for snacks or casual meals; special diets like low-sodium or vegetarian get accommodated, and each apartment gets housekeeping, laundry, cable TV, and internet.

Cardinal Retirement Village is state-licensed and checks references and driving records for its staff, and you'll find skilled nursing and aides on-site, with 12-to-16-hour nursing each day and a doctor on call. Residents can get physical, speech, and occupational therapy, as well as hospice and respite care as needs change, and everyone has help close by with a 24-hour call system and personalized care plans that get updated over time. There's on-site parking for residents, full-time wheelchair and walking support, transfer aids like Hoyer lifts, and independent and assisted living services certified by the ODA, with an assisted living waiver after a year of private pay. The community is non-smoking, with both indoor and outdoor common areas, outdoor walking paths, screened porches, and plenty of places to relax, and the entire setup encourages residents to stay active and as independent as possible, while always having help nearby if or when it's needed.
