    Warm professional staff; excellent care

I'm very pleased with my experience at Stonespring - the staff are warm, professional, and genuinely caring, the building is clean and comfortable, meals and activities are enjoyable, and therapy and nursing truly helped my loved one make progress. Special thanks to Sandy in admissions, Brandy, and third-shift nurse Dane for attentive, patient care; my family felt respected and visiting was flexible, so I highly recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

Stonespring presents a strongly mixed profile across reviewer accounts. Many families and patients praise the facility’s physical environment, amenities, and especially its skilled-therapy department: physical, occupational and speech therapists are repeatedly described as knowledgeable, effective and instrumental in successful rehabilitation. The building and grounds are frequently characterized as modern and attractive, with pleasant common spaces, a variety of on-site amenities (salon, chapel, coffee area) and an active activities program that includes social events and regular group offerings.

Clinical care experiences diverge. Positive reports emphasize attentive caregivers and nursing staff who support safe discharge and recovery. However, a substantial number of accounts describe inconsistent nursing responsiveness, particularly at night and on weekends, with delayed responses to call lights and slow assistance for basic needs. Reviewers also describe variability in clinical skill and conduct among nursing staff: while some caregivers receive high praise, others are perceived as inattentive or dismissive. Related operational weaknesses include medication-administration and consent-management gaps, episodic failures in wound care and infection control, and coordination breakdowns when arranging transfers or discharges that have, in some cases, resulted in emergency-room visits.

Dining and activities are generally cited as strengths. Meals are often described as high-quality and varied, and the activities calendar — from bingo and socials to garden access — contributes to a community atmosphere. That said, several reviews note inconsistent meal timing and insufficient feeding assistance for residents who require help, so expectations about mealtime support should be clarified in advance.

Facility upkeep and housekeeping show unevenness. Many reviewers praise clean, well-maintained common areas and rooms, but a number of reports describe sanitation concerns and lapses in incontinence-care attention in specific units or shifts. Laundry and personal-item handling practices, including lost or misplaced clothing and difficulties tracking resident property, are recurring practical concerns. Equipment maintenance and room repairs are also noted as inconsistent.

Management and administrative themes are mixed. Admissions staff and certain administrators receive positive mention for being helpful and professional; several families found staff responsive when problems were escalated. Conversely, a persistent pattern in the reviews involves billing errors, unexpected charges, slow or unclear communication from administrative staff, and frustration with follow-up. Reviewers also flag the facility’s limitations in caring for residents with advanced cognitive impairment — families of residents with dementia indicate a need for closer supervision and dementia-specific expertise.

Notable patterns for prospective residents and families: verify staffing levels and coverage during nights/weekends; ask about wound-care and infection-control protocols; clarify medication-consent and administration procedures; confirm dementia-care capabilities if cognitive impairment is present; and request written policies on meal assistance, laundry/property handling, and billing practices. Overall, Stonespring offers strong rehabilitation services and an appealing physical environment, but operations-related inconsistencies — primarily around staffing, nursing responsiveness, clinical oversight, and administrative follow-through — merit careful inquiry during placement decisions.

    About Stonespring Skilled Nursing Facility

Stonespring Skilled Nursing Facility sits in Vandalia, Ohio, and is part of the Carespring network of communities, serving the Dayton area, and when it comes to care, the staff really tries to help folks who need help with things like bathing, dressing, moving from bed to chair, and keeping up with their medicines, and they do it pretty much around the clock with nursing support for at least half the day and a 24-hour call system, so someone's always there if something comes up, and there's also supervision all day and night. Meals are prepared and served in a restaurant-style setting, they offer special diets-like for diabetes-and rooms come furnished with private bathrooms, air conditioning, and kitchenettes, which is handy for folks who want a bit of independence, and rooms have cable TV and Wi-Fi, so you can keep up with your shows or contact the grandkids online. Housekeeping and linen services keep the place clean, and you'll also see that they've got a Market Café if you want to grab a bite or just sit and chat, a beauty shop for keeping up appearances, and several shared spaces for activities, like a chapel for quiet reflection, an activity room for crafts or games, and a family guest room if someone's visiting from out of town. They have their own transportation for community needs and can help arrange rides for things like shopping or errands.

Physical, occupational, and speech therapy are all on offer in three therapy gyms that are set up with new equipment, and outpatient therapy is available for those who need to come back after a hospital stay. There's a wellness center as well as outdoor courtyards and gardens if you like to be outside, and scheduled daily activities, plus ones run by the residents themselves, to help keep people busy and social, which can help folks feel at home. The nurses, therapists, and nutritionists get good marks for their compassion and skill, and they're known in the community for a patient-first approach, whether you need long-term care, short-term rehab, or help with memory care issues like Alzheimer's and dementia. Stonespring Skilled Nursing Facility also supports those who need palliative or end-of-life care and offers respiratory care for those with breathing problems, and they work with people who are dealing with disabilities or serious illness, helping each person with a care plan that fits what they need most.

Families thinking about a stay can look at studio layouts, meet the staff, visit the community areas, and even talk with other residents on a tour, and there's information online and maps to help people find their way. It's a place known for having both skilled nursing care and assisted living, and it's recognized in state and federal ratings, getting a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for its nursing home services, though it averages about 5.5 out of 10 overall from different reviews, placing it around 34th in its city. Stonespring Skilled Nursing Facility doesn't claim to be perfect, but it does offer a range of services and a warm, home-like setting for adults who need daily help or specialized rehab and care, with plenty of staff and resources to support healing, comfort, and social life.
