    Attentive caregivers, spotless facility, recommended

I'm very pleased with the gentle, respectful staff and attentive bedside care - nurses, aides, and therapists truly went above and beyond for my mother. The facility is bright, spotless, welcoming, offers engaging activities and delicious meals, and staff kept our family informed the whole time. I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Legacy Marion elicits a strongly mixed set of impressions. Across reviews there are clear and repeated strengths: many families describe nursing staff and STNAs as compassionate, attentive, and clinically capable. Rehabilitation services โ€” including physical, speech, and occupational therapy โ€” are consistently identified as a strength, with several accounts of effective therapy that supported discharge home. The facilityโ€™s common areas are often described as clean, bright, and welcoming, and organized activities (crafts, games, puzzles and inclusive programming) contribute to resident engagement.

At the same time, a consistent theme is operational inconsistency. Reported experiences vary widely by shift, unit, or time period: some families praise proactive communication and individualized care plans, while others describe long delays answering call lights, slow assistance for toileting and bathing, missed or rescheduled medical appointments, and gaps in routine monitoring. This variability extends to clinical processes and medication management; reviewers referenced scheduling conflicts, double-dosing concerns, and situations that led to hospital transfers, indicating uneven adherence to clinical protocols.

Dining and housekeeping produce similarly divergent feedback. Several accounts compliment high-quality meals and courteous kitchen staff, including specific praise for salads and particular dishes. Conversely, other accounts describe unacceptable meal quality and inconsistent kitchen service. Housekeeping and room-level sanitation are reported as reliable in common areas but inconsistent in some resident rooms and bathrooms; reviewers raised maintenance issues as well, including heating and window problems and cramped room layouts that limit mobility and guest accommodation.

Safety, security, and administrative issues appear as separate areas of concern. Some reviewers raised allegations of missing personal items and unauthorized access, along with concerns about how such incidents were handled. Administrative problems โ€” delayed responses from management, billing errors, back-billing, and an unresponsive phone/reception system โ€” were also cited. Several comments addressed staff conduct and tone, describing both exemplary, compassionate providers and instances of discourteous or dismissive interactions; these accounts suggest a need for stronger staff training and consistent supervisory oversight.

Notable patterns: the facility shows clear capability in clinical rehabilitation and in moments of strong nursing care, but persistent operational weaknesses โ€” staffing instability, variable responsiveness, inconsistent housekeeping and maintenance, and administrative follow-through โ€” create significant variability in resident experience. There are a small number of serious individual allegations (theft, medication-process issues, and care-related hospitalizations) that families and prospective residents should treat as high-priority items to investigate further.

For prospective residents and families: consider an on-site visit at different times of day, ask for recent staffing ratios and turnover data, review recent inspection reports, tour a prospective room to check temperature control and clearance for mobility devices, inquire about medication-safety protocols and incident reporting, and request references from current families. These steps will help clarify whether the facilityโ€™s notable strengths align with your expectations and whether the operational gaps have been addressed under current management.

    About Legacy Marion

Legacy Marion sits about a mile and a half from Marion General Hospital, over on Barks Road West, and you'll find it open for all kinds of care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and even services like adult day care, hospice, home health care, and non-medical home care that covers daily needs. Legacy Marion's got 135 certified beds, and usually about 102 residents stay there each day. They run as a for-profit corporation tied to Legacy Health Services and accept both Medicare and Medicaid. The facility takes fire safety seriously, using automatic sprinklers where needed, and keeps up with health, fire, and infection controls, although the most recent standard inspection happened over two years ago, which is longer than suggested, with some noted deficiencies, including issues with infection control and food handling. Resident and family councils let both groups share their thoughts and get involved in care planning and daily life. Licensed nurses, such as RNs and LPNs, provide about 2.92 hours of nurse care per resident each day, which is below the state average, but their nurse turnover rate is a bit lower than the state norm, sitting at 41 percent. The staff manages pressure ulcer care, infection prevention, and makes sure feeding tubes are used only when needed and with consent. They put together care plans within a week of assessment and review these with health professionals, keeping residents' wishes in mind for daily activities. The site's not inside a hospital, but the clinical and therapy teams focus on helping folks recover safely after hospital stays, which makes it easier for residents and families during tough transitions. Legacy Marion's got facilities for specialized care and memory support and offers nutrition oversight from dietitians and physicians; some deficiency reports found problems with how food is handled, which is something the place works on as part of compliance. Along with private and shared resident spaces, the place has different programs and options for those who need more help, those who want independence but might need a hand, or those who need ongoing care because of memory loss or complex illness. Legacy Marion aims to create a comfortable spot for both short-term recovery and long-term living, offering a broad mix of care levels and support for residents and their families.
