    Caring clean facility with caveats

I moved my mom here and overall we're very happy - the building is spotless, homey and odor-free, the staff are warm, professional and attentive, and meals and activities (bingo, piano, outings) keep residents engaged. The dining room feels restaurant-style, rooms are comfortable, and I felt my mom was safe and well cared for. Communication and responsiveness were generally good, especially during COVID and medical needs, and rehab/therapy options and transportation were helpful. Downsides: costs can be high and complicated, staffing/communication hiccups happen, and the community wasn't set up for one loved one's severe memory-related behavior; there were a few concerning lost-item/accountability issues. Still, for us it was a caring, well-run place and I would recommend it with those caveats.

    About Brookdale Medina South

Brookdale Medina South offers different types of senior care all in one place, so folks can find options that match what they need at each stage, whether someone's looking for independent living, assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia, skilled nursing, hospice, or even adult day services or home care with a Medicare-certified agency. Caregivers stay on site 24 hours a day and help with daily routines like bathing, dressing, grooming, and getting around, and they can manage and give medicines, which helps take some weight off residents' shoulders. Apartments have their own bathrooms with walk-in showers, wide doors for wheelchairs, and an emergency pull cord system, and folks can make their rooms their own while staying in a building set up to look and feel like a home, not a hospital, and the aim is to help everyone stay as independent as possible. Meals come three times a day, there are special diets if needed-stuff like vegetarian, low-sugar, or low-sodium meals-and you'll see dining with restaurant-style service, private dining if you want to eat with family, and even guest meals and international foods showing up sometimes. The staff handles housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning, and even linen changes, so residents don't have to worry about so many chores, and there's a beauty salon, a TV lounge, a library, and both indoor and outdoor walking paths and spaces to gather, plus a garden and an enclosed courtyard if someone wants to get some fresh air without leaving the grounds. There's transportation for doctor's appointments, shopping, and services, and they can arrange rides at no extra cost or sometimes for a fee, and family can use guest parking when they visit. For folks who need therapy, help from the pharmacy, or special programs like reminiscence therapy and sensory-based activities-like the snoezelen setup-it's all available, so people with dementia or other memory issues get what they need. The place keeps a calendar full of social, recreational, educational, and spiritual programs, including religious services for both Catholics and Protestants and visits from a chaplain, and there's always something on the schedule to encourage folks to join in and find friends. Care stays personal-plans get made for each person, so support lines up with what they really need-and there are options if someone's health changes over time, making it easier to stay put without having to move somewhere else. The community has features like a fitness center, Jacuzzi, fireplace in shared areas, pet-friendly rules, and support for wheelchair users, including full tubs for assisted bathing. Memory care staff know how to give gentle, specific help, and the focus is on safety, comfort, and helping each person get the most from each day.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale Medina South is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
