    Compassionate care and excellent amenities

I moved my mother-in-law here and I'm very pleased-compassionate, professional nurses, caregivers and therapy staff who go above and beyond, outstanding medical and rehab care, and friendly, attentive support from administration and maintenance. The facility is clean, cozy and well-appointed with great meals, activities and on-site amenities, and the staff's warm communication really put our family at ease; I recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Ohio Living Dorothy Love elicits strongly polarized impressions. Many reviewers praise the site for its well-maintained, modern campus, apartment-style living, and a broad set of on-site amenities — chapel, salon, gift shop and an internal post office — that support daily convenience and social life. Residents and families frequently highlight the facility’s active social environment, varied programming, and regular outings, as well as an engaged, sociable resident population.

Clinical and therapeutic services earn considerable positive comment: licensed nurses, attentive caregivers, and robust rehabilitation/physical-therapy offerings are described as professional and effective, with several accounts of timely, even life-saving, clinical responses. Dementia-care programming and short-term rehab experiences are also noted as strengths. At the same time, there is a recurrent pattern of variability in daily caregiving. Reviewers describe periods of excellent, proactive communication and compassionate care alongside episodes of delayed assistance, inconsistent bathing and hygiene support, and lapses in responsiveness when staffing is stretched.

Dining and activities are frequent highlights. Multiple comments refer to appealing meals, in-room dining availability, snack options, and a wide range of life-enrichment activities that include movies, games and community events. Families often cite these offerings as contributing positively to quality of life and social engagement for residents.

The physical plant and accessibility receive positive attention: clean common areas, private apartment layouts with kitchens and living rooms, connected buildings, and wide doorways and halls that support mobility. However, several reviewers raise concerns about management follow-through — promised renovations or services that were not completed, and at least some confrontational interactions involving maintenance or security staff. Financial factors are also a theme: reviewers note high monthly charges and unclear cost or responsibility for certain services (for example, exterior work or yard maintenance), which suggests a need for clearer fee transparency.

A notable pattern is the perceived decline in certain areas following an ownership or management change. Some families describe a drop in staffing levels and coverage gaps tied to cost-cutting decisions, which in turn exacerbates variability in care and communication. For prospective residents and families, the mixed feedback suggests recommending an on-site visit focused on current staffing levels, copies of recent staffing/incident reports if available, clarification of included services and fees, and direct conversations with nursing leadership about care plans and communication protocols. Ohio Living Dorothy Love demonstrates many operational strengths, particularly in therapy, activities and campus amenities, but families should assess current staffing consistency, management responsiveness, and financial terms before committing.

Dining at Dorothy Love happens in a big restaurant-style room where a professional chef and planners prepare meals using balanced, good ingredients, and residents who prefer or need a special diet-like gluten-free, low sodium, or diabetic-friendly-can get meals that fit what the doctor ordered, and meals can come as room service if someone isn't feeling up to joining everyone in the main dining room. Nurses, doctors, and therapists visit and stay on call 24 hours a day, and there are medication managers, technicians, and caregivers available day and night in all levels of care. They handle diabetic care-including insulin therapy-bowel and bladder care, behavioral health, and therapy for those with high medical needs. The whole place is known for its kindness, skill, and strong sense of community and has earned top marks from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for rehabilitation and care, making it a steady, comfortable place where seniors can settle down, stay active as they like, and get support as their needs change.
