    Mother thriving at Homestead facility

I placed my mother at Homestead after a health scare and we're very pleased with the experience. The facility is spotless, her suite is comfortable with its own space and a nice view, meals are healthy and varied, and staff are kind, professional and go above and beyond. There's a lively schedule of activities, great social opportunities, and she's thriving and more relaxed - I would happily recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews portray Homestead Senior Living of Elk City as a clean, welcoming facility with a strong emphasis on personalized, memory-focused care. Families frequently describe a warm, family-like atmosphere and staff who are compassionate, patient, and attentive. Many reviewers credit the community with improving residents' quality of life, increasing social engagement, and providing caregiver relief; the environment is described as inviting, well-kept, and comfortable.

Care and staff: Nursing and caregiving staff are consistently characterized as caring, respectful, and responsive. Reviewers highlight individualized attention, attentive end-of-life support, and a sense that staff treat residents like family. The facility’s memory-care orientation and social programming appear to support residents who benefit from structured activities and companionship. At the same time, several comments point to gaps in communication between clinical staff and families—most notably in how changes in a resident’s care level or clinical status are conveyed to loved ones—indicating an area for process improvement in care-plan notification and family engagement.

Dining: Feedback on meals is mixed. Many families praised healthy, well‑proportioned portions and variety, while others raised concerns about food quality and nutritional consistency. Prospective families should ask for current menus, sample meals, and information about how dietary needs and preferences are accommodated during a tour.

Activities and social life: The community offers a broad calendar of activities, from group events to arts programming (for example, painting classes), with dedicated communal spaces and quieter nooks for smaller-scale interaction. Multiple reviewers noted that residents become more talkative, make new friends, and appear happier and more engaged after moving in, which suggests effective recreational and social programming, particularly for memory-care residents.

Facilities and location: The physical environment is described as clean, modern, and well-maintained, with home-like private suites and functional rooms. Reviewers mentioned pleasant views and an overall tidy presentation. The location was noted as convenient for families and helpful in maintaining existing social connections for residents.

Management and administration: Administrative performance is the most frequently cited area of concern. Reviewers described delays and confusion around Medicaid or benefits enrollment assistance, occasional admissions or placement inconsistencies, and instances of office staff appearing disorganized or hurried. Those operational issues manifest as delays in documentation, slow benefit-processing support, and uneven communication flow with families. These are process-level items that prospective families should confirm during intake and financial/benefits discussions.

Who this may suit: Homestead appears well suited to families seeking a clean, socially active memory-care community with attentive, compassionate staff and a homelike setting. It may be particularly attractive to those looking for caregiver relief and perceived cost savings. Visitors should evaluate administrative practices and communication protocols during a tour—ask how care-level changes are communicated, how benefits enrollment is supported, and request a current sample menu and activity schedule to ensure these operational aspects meet your expectations.
