    Compassionate clean attentive resident care

I'm very pleased with Hood River Post Acute. The staff treated my loved one like family - kind, patient, competent, and attentive; Andrea went above and beyond. The remodeled, very clean facility felt safe, the food was good, and activities/events were thoughtful. Staff helped set up a tablet, kept an eye on him, and communicated proactively, which gave us real peace of mind. In this smaller, resident-focused community we felt truly cared for with dignity - I'm grateful and would recommend them.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed but actionable portrait of care at Hood River Post Acute. Many families praised individual caregivers and clinical staff for compassionate, patient-centered interactions, clear communication, and practical support for families (for example, helping set up tablets and organizing events). Multiple comments highlight a strong CNA training program, examples of staff who go above and beyond, and staff behaviors that contribute to family confidence and perceived safety. Several reviewers also described thoughtful activity programming, well-run holiday events, and owner investment in recent remodeling and improvements.

At the same time, the set of reviews points to operational inconsistencies that prospective residents and families should consider. Several accounts describe high staff turnover and uneven responsiveness to resident needs; reviewers described delays in attending to basic needs and gaps in message follow-up. Clinical concerns include medication-management issues and slower-than-expected diagnostic follow-up in some instances. These items suggest variability in day-to-day clinical oversight and continuity of care.

Dining and activities appear uneven. Some families complimented the food and an engaged activities director; others described bland or minimal meal offerings and insufficient stimulation for certain residents. Similarly, activity quality and frequency seem to vary over time or by unit, so a tour that includes the current activity schedule and sample menus would clarify expectations.

Facility condition and management also show mixed signals: parts of the facility have been remodeled and described as clean, while other comments note outstanding maintenance needs. Reviewers cited owner investment and updates, but also historic variability in quality and occasional property-management lapses, including missing personal items and isolated issues with staff professionalism.

Overall, the pattern is one of strong, individualized caregiving capacity intermingled with operational gaps that affect consistency. Families weighing this facility should prioritize direct questions about current staffing levels and turnover, medication-administration protocols, response-time expectations, activity schedules, and property-inventory practices. Observing a meal service, meeting the activities director, and asking for recent staffing and quality-improvement examples will help assess whether the facility’s recent investments have translated into reliable, facility-wide improvements.
