    Friendly staff and excellent amenities

I moved in and have been very pleased. The staff are friendly, caring and prompt, the building is spotless, bright and beautifully decorated, and the grounds are lovely. The food is excellent, the indoor pool, fitness center, salon and on-site conveniences are fantastic, and the busy activities calendar has helped me make many friends - I happily recommend CherryWood.

    Summary of reviews

CherryWood Village is repeatedly described as a large, well-maintained campus with broad amenities and an active social life. Reviewers praise the physical plant — clean interiors, attractive landscaping, renovated apartments, wide well-lit hallways, indoor pool and fitness center, theater, coffee shop, salon, and convenient skybridges — and note proximity to medical services as a practical advantage. The property presents as campus-like, with multiple social spaces, garden beds, and frequent opportunities for residents to gather.

Care and staff are among the facility's most-cited strengths. Many families and residents describe friendly, courteous, and responsive frontline staff, along with a Wellness/Vitality team that organizes daily activities. Reviewers comment on staff continuity and a family-owned culture that supports predictable relationships. At the same time, reviewers raised operational concerns about caregiver coverage and training: inconsistent staffing levels and specific gaps in safe-transfer practices were mentioned. A few accounts described clinical incidents that led to hospitalization and related family dissatisfaction; these raise questions about clinical-incident response, oversight, and family communication in some cases.

Dining receives mixed but generally positive commentary. The facility's restaurant-style dining, rotating menu cycles, and on-site chef are popular features; many residents enjoy generous portions and varied offerings. However, comments also point to inconsistent food quality at times and limited options for heart-healthy or diabetic diets. A subset of reviewers noted salty or heavily prepared items and expressed a desire for more consistent healthy-menu choices and better dining sanitation and service practices.

Activities and programming are a clear strength for many residents: a broad slate of clubs, classes, excursions, travelogues, and campus events contributes to social engagement and reported quality of life. Reviewers described successful new programs initiated by staff and resident-led clubs (camera club, travel club, forum), frequent bus rides and outings, and a repertoire of on-site entertainment. That said, some residents and families felt evening/weekend programming could be more reliably staffed or better targeted to less-mobile residents, indicating uneven engagement depending on schedules and staffing.

Operational and management themes are mixed. Positive notes include a helpful concierge, responsive maintenance, and successful infection-control performance during COVID-19. Concerns center on inconsistent communication from admissions and management, pressure around contractual decisions, and pricing practices that include rent increases and additional service fees. Parking constraints for visitors and the scale of the campus (long hallways that can be confusing for residents with memory needs) were also raised as practical drawbacks.

Overall, the pattern across reviews is of a property that offers robust amenities, active programming, and many staff who are experienced and caring — features that support an engaging senior lifestyle. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against documented operational issues: assess caregiver staffing and transfer-training protocols, clarify dietary accommodations and fee structures in writing, and verify how clinical incidents and family communications are handled. A guided visit that includes time in dining, activities, and a conversation about clinical oversight and pricing will help determine fit for individual care needs.

About Cherrywood Village a Generations Community

Cherrywood Village, a Generations Community, sits over in San Diego's South Bay and offers a quiet spot for seniors to live with comfort and support. The facility has independent living, assisted living, memory care, and post-acute care services all within one campus, letting residents age in place without having to move around. Staff at Cherrywood Village focus on kindness and pay close attention to each person's needs, using regular assessments and personalized care plans. Residents can choose from studio, one-bedroom, one-bedroom with a den, two-bedroom, or penthouse apartments, each designed for easy use and comfort, and the buildings have lovely gardens and well-kept grounds, making walks and fresh air part of daily life.

Everyone living here has access to a big range of amenities, like landscaped courtyards with raised garden beds, walking sidewalks, a swimming pool and hot tub in the Vitality Center, and common spaces both indoors and outside. There are organized activities for wellness and fun, such as fitness programs, crafts, travelogue programs, entertaining outings for shopping or events, and weekly bus rides. Social connection is important here, so folks find lots of chances to gather, talk, and take part in meaningful activities in spaces like the Village Square, which holds a bank, coffee shop, restaurant, and art studio. There's also onsite beauty and barber services, plus a pet-friendly policy for those who want animal companions.

Cherrywood Village supports its residents with help for grooming, housekeeping, laundry, and meals, and there's always staff trained in assisted living and memory care on-site. The Royal Anne wing provides specialized care for those who need extra support, and the memory care section uses a person-centered approach for those with dementia or Alzheimer's, offering comfort and safety with staff close at hand. The campus maintains a quiet, clean environment without unpleasant smells, and security is a priority for families' peace of mind, with regular safety checks and a gated entry that gives a little extra reassurance.

The community suits many needs, with services shaped for independent seniors, those who need personal care, and those recovering from medical events. Programs focus on residents' body, mind, and spirit, with scheduled religious services, educational and wellness activities, and special diets like vegetarian options. Residents can take part in devotional services both onsite and offsite, borrow transportation for appointments, and park their own cars if they want to keep driving. Wheelchair accessible showers and hospice or respite care are available as needed, too. Management and staff get good marks for their helpful attitude and the sense of community they foster. Cherrywood Village balances support, safety, social connection, and independence, all in a pleasant, Mediterranean-style setting overlooking putting greens and ponds-a place where folks can feel supported as they get older.
