    Compassionate care, clean and welcoming

I'm very pleased with this community - great location and pleasant surroundings. Care is compassionate and professional; the nurses on 6 West and staff like Patrick treat residents like family. The facility is well kept, very clean, and staff stay on top of everything. Meals are good and on time, and the recreation room with board games and magazines is a nice bonus. I'd recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a highly mixed picture of Philadelphia Nursing Home, with clear positive elements alongside substantial operational concerns. Strengths cited include well-kept common spaces, an active recreation area with games and reading material, generally timely meal delivery, and a convenient neighborhood location. Several reviews singled out specific nursing staff and a particular unit for delivering compassionate, professional care; those accounts suggest reliable, family-like attention can be found in parts of the facility.

At the same time, recurring themes point to variability in care quality and facility management. Multiple accounts describe inconsistent staff conduct and responsiveness, indicating that resident experience depends heavily on the unit and individual caregivers on duty. There are specific concerns about incontinence-care and hygiene practices and about odor control in entrances and some common areas; these are operational issues that affect perceived cleanliness and resident comfort. There are also mentions of maintenance gaps, lost personal items, and pest-control concerns that suggest uneven attention to facility upkeep and property security.

Dining receives mixed feedback: many reviewers appreciate that meals are served on schedule, but there are repeated complaints about meal temperature and inconsistent food quality. Activities and social spaces are noted as a positive, and when nursing teams are engaged and professional they are described as compassionate and hardworking. This contrast highlights a pattern of unit-level variability rather than uniform performance across the facility.

Management and family-interaction issues appear repeatedly. Reviewers express frustration about restrictive visiting hours, communication gaps between staff and families, and the financial burden of care. There are serious individual allegationsโ€”including claims of missing belongings and an allegation of theftโ€”and concerns following a resident's death, which raise questions about incident response, documentation, and family communication processes. Those kinds of issues merit focused administrative review and clarification from facility leadership.

Overall, the facility shows capacity for good care and useful social programming, but the pattern of inconsistent staffing behavior, sanitation and maintenance gaps, variable dining quality, and administrative shortcomings suggests that prospective residents and families should seek unit-specific information, ask about incident-handling protocols, review recent regulatory and inspection records, and meet key staff before making placement decisions.
