    Caring staff and beautiful facility

I'm very pleased with the caring, professional staff and the clean, beautiful facility - my loved one was comfortable, safe, and well cared for. Therapy, activities, housekeeping and admissions were attentive and communicative; I'm grateful for the compassionate, family-like care and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Chestnut Hill Lodge Health and Rehabilitation Center are highly mixed, with clear patterns of both notable strengths and recurring operational weaknesses. Many families and shortโ€‘term rehab patients praised the therapy teams and frontโ€‘line caregivers: physical and occupational therapy services receive consistent positive feedback for restoring mobility and enabling successful discharges, and numerous reviewers described individual nurses and CNAs as caring and attentive. Admissions and frontโ€‘desk staff also earned praise for responsiveness and helpfulness, and several commenters noted that rooms and common spaces can be clean and well maintained, particularly where maintenance and housekeeping respond promptly.

Clinical care presents a split picture. Shortโ€‘term rehabilitation and therapy programs are a consistent positive, while longโ€‘term and memoryโ€‘care experiences show greater variability. Numerous accounts cite delayed responses to call bells, inconsistent bathing/laundry routines, and concerns about medication access and documentation. A subset of reviews raise serious operational concerns โ€” including allegations related to medication access, property handling, and staff conduct โ€” and a few reviews referenced regulatory complaints. While some families described accessible leadership and visible Directors of Nursing, others reported unresponsive administration and poor communication around transfers or hospitalizations.

Dining and activity offerings vary by unit and over time. Several reviewers observed that food quality improved after the initial days of a stay, and therapy and activities staff are praised where programming is robust โ€” including memory therapy, group exercises, and arts/crafts. Conversely, other families reported inconsistent meal quality, dietary-restriction management gaps, and minimal or uneven activity schedules, particularly on weekends or in certain care areas.

Facility condition and operations show contrasts: parts of the building were described as updated, bright, and comfortable, while other accounts flagged sanitation and odor concerns, pestโ€‘control issues, inadequate laundry processes, misplaced personal items, limited parking, and sparse grounds. Weekend staffing and coverage recur as a problem area; many reviewers differentiated between strong weekday teams and thinner, less attentive weekend staffing. High staff turnover was noted as a factor that undermines continuity of care in some units.

Taken together, the pattern suggests a facility capable of providing effective shortโ€‘term rehabilitation and populated by many dedicated caregivers, but with systemic operational weaknesses that affect longโ€‘term and memoryโ€‘care residents more frequently. Prospective residents and families should verify current staffing ratios and weekend coverage, ask for recent inspection and complaint histories, review the facilityโ€™s pestโ€‘control and laundry policies, and request specifics about medicationโ€‘management procedures and family communication protocols. Observing the dementia unit during a visit and speaking with therapy and nursing leadership can help assess whether the parts of the facility that perform well match the prospective residentโ€™s care needs.

    About Chestnut Hill Lodge

Chestnut Hill Lodge Health and Rehabilitation Center sits at 8833 Stenton Ave in Wyndmoor, near Glenside, Pennsylvania, with 181 certified beds and an average of about 165 residents each day, and folks come here for all sorts of care, whether it's short-term rehabilitation, respite stays, or longer-term skilled nursing, and you'll find that the staff stays around to help out with things like bathing, dressing, medication management, transfers, and even non-ambulatory care, with nurses and therapists working round the clock. People mention that it's renowned for compassionate care, and there's a big focus on creating personalized care plans, which a team reviews and updates based on each resident's needs and health goals, and residents get immediate access to hospital specialists if they need them, along with services like onsite kidney dialysis in partnership with Chestnut Hill Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. The place feels friendly and well-kept, and there are private bathrooms, air conditioning, and room choices like private and shared spaces, studios, and places with special mobility features. Community amenities include Wi-Fi, cable TV, and plenty of gathering spots, such as a movie theater, arts room, fitness room, a wellness and spa space, library, game room, and outdoor areas like gardens and walking paths. Meals are served restaurant-style with a chef who handles dietary needs, and everyone can eat when they like with all-day dining, and the staff helps with laundry, housekeeping, transportation, and parking as well. There's an emergency alert system and 24-hour call system for safety, plus special services like move-in coordination and a concierge. The community does plenty to keep folks engaged, offering activities both inside and out, with resident-led programs, a movie night, arts, music, and family and resident councils working on care and quality improvements. The team is dedicated, though the nurse turnover rate is about 59.6%, and the center has faced 52 inspection deficiencies, including one infection-related issue, with most deficiencies at lower severity levels (D-E), and reports have noted times when residents didn't get enough help with activities they couldn't perform themselves. Inspections also show that care plans start within a week and get regular reviews by health professionals. Chestnut Hill Lodge accepts Medicare and Medicaid, is run as a for-profit corporation, and uses support from Premier Healthcare Management for administration. Though the healthcare team is experienced and there are lots of specialty programs, specialties aren't listed in detail, but as a skilled nursing facility there's access to physical, occupational, and speech therapies. Residents and visitors have commented on the welcoming feeling, and the facility is set for renovations to make the space even nicer. Right now, the center isn't taking new residents, but those who live here benefit from a thoughtful, community-oriented approach, and the location is easy to reach off Lincoln Drive, making visits from family and friends more convenient.
