    Exceptional post-surgery rehab and care

I stayed here for post-surgery rehab and was impressed by the beautiful, peaceful facility and my spacious, very clean private room. The nurses, CNAs and PT/OT - especially Mary-Ellen, Christina, Rebecca and Carol - were professional, compassionate and attentive; my mobility improved quickly and their care exceeded my expectations. Meals were tailored to my preferences, COVID precautions were followed, and daily activities and Catholic services kept me engaged. My family felt comforted even from out of state via FaceTime; I felt safe, well cared for, and would recommend this center.

    Summary of reviews

Mount St. Rita Health Centre elicits a mixed but specific set of impressions. Many families and residents describe strong hands-on care from nurses, CNAs, and therapists — particularly on the first-floor rehabilitation unit, where therapy resources and staffing are described as robust and effective in restoring mobility. Several reviewers emphasized individualized, respectful interactions that created a welcoming, family-like environment; specific staff members and the availability of daily Catholic services were highlighted as important contributors to resident well-being.

Clinical care quality appears to vary by unit. While rehabilitation services and some long-standing nursing staff receive high praise, other comments indicate variability in training, staffing levels, and caregiver continuity. Reviewers raised concerns about wound management and care for chronic conditions in certain cases, and a subset of accounts described issues with medication practices including use of sedative medications. These indicate potential inconsistencies in clinical protocols and oversight rather than uniformly poor care.

Operationally, the facility shows strengths in activities and social programming: there are regular opportunities for engagement and spiritual life, and staff-led programming is generally viewed positively. That said, families suggested room for broader, level-specific activities and questioned managerial follow-through when programming concerns were raised. Dining is serviceable with reports of meals being tailored to preferences, but several reviewers noted limited menu variation over time.

Facility and administrative factors are notable. The campus and grounds are described as attractive and peaceful, and many residents praise clean, spacious private rooms. At the same time, the building is aging, some double rooms are small, and there are reports of inconsistent attention to showering/personal care detail. Administrative patterns described include variability in responsiveness to family concerns, restrictive visitation procedures at times, and perceived emphasis on operational/financial priorities that can affect responsiveness. There are also recurring mentions of lapses in personal-property management and occasional staff-training gaps in specific areas (for example, pool-related nursing).

What prospective residents and families should consider: Mount St. Rita offers strong rehabilitation services, compassionate frontline staff, and an active spiritual and activities program, which are important strengths. However, variability across units in staffing, training, clinical oversight, and management responsiveness suggests asking targeted questions during a tour: request current staffing ratios for the intended unit, inquire about medication and wound-care protocols, review visitation and property-handling policies, and observe unit-level cleanliness and activity offerings. An in-person visit and specific conversations with unit leadership can help clarify whether the facility’s strengths align with a prospective resident’s care needs.
