    Upscale building with excellent amenities

I'm very happy with my choice - the brand-new, upscale building is bright, immaculate and well-appointed (private one-bedroom with full kitchen and washer/dryer), and the amenities - theater, fitness center, koi pond and regular activities - keep things lively. The staff are friendly, attentive and professional, they knew us from day one and made move-in smooth, and the meals are consistently excellent. It's a safe, welcoming, family-like community that I would recommend to other families.

    Summary of reviews

Greenway Square presents as a new, upscale senior living community with strong hospitality and lifestyle features. The physical plant is frequently described as bright, modern, and immaculately maintained; highlights include a grand foyer with a koi pond, a dedicated movie/theater venue, a fitness center, and multiple common areas for socializing. Apartment units are generally described as spacious and well equipped, with full-size washers/dryers, large closets, and private patios or balconies in many units. Housekeeping and cleanliness are consistently emphasized as strengths.

Dining and hospitality follow a restaurant-style model. Reviews emphasize a high-quality dining program led by an Italian chef, three daily meals plus snacks, buffet options, and frequent themed events such as happy hour and special luncheons. Families and residents commonly note attentive waitstaff and pleasant dining rooms, along with move-in transition support that includes complimentary meals in some cases.

Staffing, care, and management receive strong positive comments for responsiveness, warmth, and personalization. Staff across departments are described as welcoming and professional, with management praised for clear communication and helpful move-in/move-out coordination. Emergency response and daily attentiveness are cited as strengths; residents and families describe staff who know residents by name and who create a family-like atmosphere.

The activity program is active and well-supported, with regular offerings such as games, puzzles, choir, guided meditation, animal visits, and social hours. Programming leadership is regarded favorably, and special events are generally well organized. At the same time, there is a pattern of interest in expanding variety—several references point to missing arts-and-crafts options or a desire for broader activity choices.

Notable operational concerns cluster around accessibility, cost structure, and unit design. Several accounts indicate gaps in wheelchair-accessible layouts or mobility-friendly access that can cause constrained movement or social isolation for residents who require wheelchairs; this suggests a need to review accessible floorplans and community circulation. The facility’s age-in-place model—where some skilled services are contracted—can add complexity and perceived cost, leading some families to express price-to-value concerns. Additionally, a subset of respondents found certain floorplans small or lacking private outdoor space, and some noted the campus sits adjacent to a highway, which may affect location preference.

Overall, Greenway Square appears to be strongest in hospitality, dining, cleanliness, and staff engagement, making it an attractive option for prospective residents who prioritize lifestyle and service. Prospective residents with significant mobility needs or those sensitive to cost should seek detailed clarification on accessible apartment options, the scope and cost of contracted care services, and specific floorplan dimensions during touring and contract discussions.

    About Greenway Square Retirement Community

Greenway Square Retirement Community sits off U.S. Highway 521 in Indian Land, right near the banks of the Catawba River and just south of Charlotte's city limits, and you'll notice the white picket fences, rolling green land, and the peaceful, farm-like surroundings, which many folks find pleasant, while the buildings themselves offer open-concept living spaces with kitchens, dining areas, and living rooms with either wooden or granite cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. This place is for people aged 55 and older who want independent retirement living, where apartment home floor plans suit retirees, with choices for one or two bedrooms, private rooms with comfortable furnishings, soft lighting, and accessible bathrooms with walk-in showers and granite countertops, and there's never any buy-in fee or long lease because one monthly rent covers almost everything.

The staff organize activities and events led by a dedicated Lifestyle Director, so residents can regularly enjoy gatherings in shared spaces like a 150-seat theater, library, game and billiards rooms, art and reading rooms, and a lounge with a bar. The Freedom Dining program includes three daily chef-prepared meals, meal delivery service, and a chef's pantry where anyone can grab snacks if they like, and the dining area gets high marks for its award-winning food. The community is pet-friendly, without extra fees, and offers safety features like a 24/7 Emergency Alert System, live-in managers, and around-the-clock concierge services. For day-to-day needs, there's housekeeping, maintenance, transportation, counseling, dementia training and support, and a store on-site that delivers essential products free to local senior communities, so families don't have to worry so much about errands.

Amenities try to cover most things seniors want for comfort and leisure, from a fitness center and spa area to a movie room, business center, and beauty salon. Residents have access to the travel program, so anyone interested can visit other Resort Lifestyle Communities locations at no extra cost, which gives a chance to explore and maybe make new friends elsewhere, and the Life at RLC lifestyle program aims to keep life both convenient and engaging. The team at Greenway Square aims to give personal guidance to families looking for care options, and while the focus is on independent living, they also offer support for changing needs, so residents can feel secure whether they need just a little help or more. The grounds stay well-kept, and many residents talk about the close community bonds, steady activities, and the sense of dignity that comes from the respect the staff shows every day.
