    Caring staff spacious apartments responsive

I live here and I'm impressed by the caring, upbeat staff and the beautifully maintained community. My apartment is spacious with in-unit washer/dryer and great appliances, meals (desserts!) have improved, and there are abundant activities, outings, gym/library, and pet-friendly patios. Management (Lucy) and maintenance are responsive, residents are friendly, and I'd recommend it to family.

    Summary of reviews

The Villages at the River Club presents as a physically attractive, well-appointed senior community with a broad set of amenities. Apartments are described as spacious with tall ceilings, full kitchens, and in-unit washer/dryer units. Common spaces are characterized as updated and clean, with facilities that include a gym, library, outdoor patios with views, and assorted seating areas. The campus appears to host a variety of social spaces and organized outings that support resident mobility and engagement.

Staff and day-to-day care receive generally positive remarks. Reviewers describe staff as friendly, compassionate and helpful, with maintenance frequently cited as responsive to repair requests. There are structured opportunities for resident voice, including monthly meetings and abundant weekly activities. The community atmosphere is often described as upbeat, with residents getting along and staff who foster a welcoming environment.

Dining is a prominent and mixed theme. Many reviewers highlight strong meal choices, appealing desserts, and enjoyable dining experiences under certain leadership. At the same time, several comments link dining quality to recent staffing and leadership changes—most notably the departure of an executive chef—and describe a subsequent decline in consistency. This suggests dining quality may be sensitive to kitchen staffing and management continuity.

Activities and programming are a clear strength. The community offers frequent entertainment, themed events such as happy hour with performances, movie nights with snacks, spiritual supports, and routine outings to local stores and restaurants. These offerings contribute to the social engagement and quality-of-life that many residents emphasize.

Management and policy issues are an area of mixed feedback. Some reviewers praise accessible leadership and problem-solving directors; others recount instances they view as insufficiently transparent, particularly around clinical documentation, cognition-related concerns, or decisions about residency status. There are specific remarks about abrupt resident discharge decisions and limited review of external clinical reports, which point to potential gaps in decision-making processes and communication protocols. Additionally, affordability and repeated price increases are cited as a financial concern for prospective residents.

Overall, the facility appears to offer strong physical amenities, active programming, and generally attentive frontline staff. Notable patterns to investigate further before a decision include dining-quality stability following staffing changes, the community’s process for clinical review and residency decisions, and the ongoing cost trajectory. Prospective residents and families should tour the property, request written policies on clinical decision-making and discharges, review recent menus and sample meal service, and meet current leadership to clarify continuity plans and the community’s responsiveness procedures.

About The Villages at the River Club

The Villages at the River Club sits by the Red River and the River Club Golf Course in a quiet spot with lots of nature and walking paths nearby, and the place has 76 rooms spread over a four-story, 87,000 square-foot building, with villa homes and apartments looking right out over the golf course or a pond with a fountain, so you wake up to green views every day without worrying about yard work or repairs since maintenance, housekeeping, laundry, and trash pickup happen regularly. Residents can pick from different floor plans and all the homes have full-size kitchens, granite countertops, and private patios or balconies, so everyone can still make their favorite meals or just enjoy some quiet coffee in the sunroom, and there are emergency call systems for safety and nurse support if it's needed.

The community is designed for seniors 55 and older who want to stay active and independent but might need some help with things like bathing, dressing, or medication, since there's staff around to help, plus in-home care services for those who want extra help with grooming or light chores, and soon they'll have more options for assisted living and memory care, including support and therapy for folks with Alzheimer's or dementia, in safe, easy-to-navigate spaces. Meals are made by chefs and meal planners who make sure everybody's eating well and enjoying a diverse menu, and residents get restaurant-style dining, a cheery garden café, and a full dining service, with special care for individual needs or preferences.

There's activities happening onsite every day-bridge clubs, movie nights at the Roxy Theater, art classes, faith services, and regular walks outdoors, and there's guest suites for family and visitors to stay over. For fitness and wellness, there's a gym, a wellness center, a putting green, and walking trails, plus a hair salon and barbershop right on location, so nobody has to go far for what they need. The place welcomes pets, and there are quiet spots like the community lounge or the cozy patio for relaxing with neighbors, with plenty of outdoor space and controlled access for peace of mind.

Transportation gets arranged for appointments or errands, and with free golf privileges for residents, many spend time on the River Club Golf Course. The team on site is known to care deeply about the people who live here, working hard to make sure individual choices and comfort matter every day, and janitors keep the place clean. The community gets good reviews for the meals, for being clean, and for having a helpful, friendly staff, with management always available to answer questions, and the place honors veterans, welcomes church services and gatherings, and keeps a calendar full of events, with regular bridge, billiards, library visits, and art classes. Built by Horizon Construction in 2018, The Villages at the River Club is locally owned and has won awards for quality and care, and it's a good choice for people who want to live close to nature, enjoy a view of the golf course, and feel like part of a community that values health, independence, and engagement as the years go by.
