    Kind compassionate staff, smooth transitions

I moved my mom here and have been very pleased - the staff are consistently kind, compassionate, and genuinely supportive from admissions to nursing, rehab and administration. The facility is clean, updated and pet-friendly with roomy apartments, good meals, responsive maintenance and excellent housekeeping. There are plenty of activities, chapel and outings, and transitions were smooth - the team really goes above and beyond. I feel welcomed and would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression is mixed: the community offers a number of strong features valued by families — compassionate caregiving, knowledgeable nursing and rehab support, attractive grounds and on-site amenities, and large apartment units with full kitchens and in-unit laundry. Many reviewers praised a welcoming, family-oriented culture, hands-on managers, responsive maintenance and housekeeping, engaging activities (church services, crafts, outings), and effective short-term rehabilitation outcomes. Dining is described positively in several accounts that cite table service and fine-dining options, and the admissions and finance teams are frequently noted as helpful during move-in.

At the same time, a consistent pattern of operational weaknesses appears across reviews. Staffing levels and shift coverage are described as inconsistent, with multiple accounts of delays in responding to call lights and routine care tasks. These staffing gaps are linked to broader concerns about clinical oversight and continuity of care, including reports of delayed bathing, weight loss, medication and care coordination problems, and some serious clinical incidents that led to hospitalization and heightened family concern. A small number of reviewers raised allegations of harmful care and other near-miss events; these are serious individual claims that families will likely want to investigate directly with the provider and regulators.

Dining, activities, and resident life present a mixed picture. While many residents and families praise varied social programming, chapel fellowship, outings, and activity spaces (exercise rooms, game tables, salon), other accounts describe limited or inconsistent activity offerings in certain units or shifts. Food quality is similarly variable: some describe tasty, table-service meals while others characterize options as unhealthy or limited, and there are occasional mentions of breakdowns in diet-communication between nursing and food service. Transportation is available in some form but is described as limited or associated with extra cost in other accounts.

Facility and management themes are similarly bifurcated. The physical plant is often described as clean, updated, and well-kept, with desirable public spaces; however, reviewers also cite unit-to-unit inconsistencies (layout, storage, presence of stoves), sanitation and odor concerns in some common areas, and equipment or repair delays. Management strengths are cited — personable administrators, helpful admissions staff, and proactive maintenance — but other reviews point to communication gaps, perceived prioritization of finances over care, unclear fee policies (for example, meal-plan billing), and high staff turnover affecting morale and service continuity.

What emerges is a polarizing pattern: some families report consistently high-quality, compassionate care and excellent transitions, while others report operational and clinical lapses significant enough to prompt relocation or regulatory concern. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s physical amenities, activity offerings, and staffing model against the reported inconsistencies. Recommended next steps include: (1) asking for current staffing ratios and turnover statistics, (2) reviewing incident and hospitalization records or quality-score summaries if available, (3) clarifying fee and meal-plan policies in writing, and (4) arranging multiple visits at different times of day to assess responsiveness, activity schedules, and dining firsthand. These steps will help determine whether the facility’s strengths align with an individual resident’s care needs and expectations.

    About Abundant Christian Living Community

Abundant Christian Living Community sits at 2012 Sherwood Drive in Johnson City, Tennessee, and stands out as the only Continuing Care Retirement Community in the area, so folks find independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and even a nursing home all in one place, and that means a person can change their care without having to move away from the friends and staff they get used to, and that's always important as people grow older and sometimes need more help. The community takes a faith-based approach, following Christian living principles, so there's a small Church on Main Street inside the campus where residents can gather, and the friendly staff, who are known for being helpful and kind, offer services all day and night, including medication management, bathing, dressing, and other daily needs, plus a 24-hour call system for extra peace of mind. There's a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program, and the staff can coordinate with a resident's healthcare providers so things don't get missed, and for people with needs related to memory care, like Alzheimer's or dementia, they focus on reducing confusion and making sure folks stay safe from wandering. Residents get access to furnished rooms, and choices range from studios to one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, plus there are detached cottages and bungalows for people who want a bit more space, and every room has a telephone and easy wheelchair access. Meals get cooked fresh each day, with options for special diets, and there's all-day dining, where staff take meal orders at the table so nobody feels rushed, and the furnished dining room feels like home, plus awards for Best Meals and Dining show the kitchen's got a good reputation. Activities are important in this place, so you'll see movie nights, an arts room, pool tables, exercise areas, indoor card games, a garden, walking paths, and also transportation and parking for outings, which keeps things lively for everyone, and there's a barber, a beauty salon, and a laundry and housekeeping service, making life easier for those who want a break from chores. Seniors can feel secure because the community has an emergency alert system, and every building is easy to get around for people with walkers or wheelchairs, and with programs and staff getting praise for being joyful and supportive, the place stays warm and friendly. Folks who move in can get help settling, thanks to move-in coordination, and financial options include Medicaid and Medicare. Abundant Christian Living Community is part of the Tennessee Health Care Association, so it follows good standards, and if someone's recovering from something, there are on-site rehabilitation services. Tours let people see daily life, meals, and activities for themselves, so nobody has to guess what goes on inside. All in all, this community tries to cover a wide range of needs for seniors, from active folks who want independence to those who need skilled nursing or memory care, doing it in a Christian environment where people say staff feel like family.
