    Compassionate staff and spotless facility

I moved my grandmother here and I'm very pleased. The nursing staff is amazing - compassionate, loving, and they truly go above and beyond; I trusted them completely. The facility is spotless with no odors, beautiful private rooms, and great amenities in a pleasant environment. The staff overall is hospitable and attentive; my grandmother loved it and thrived here, and I'm very grateful.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for Agape - A Waters Community present a mixed picture with clear strengths in hands-on nursing care and notable operational concerns. Many families praised the nursing team for compassionate, attentive bedside care and said nurses often go beyond basic duties to support residents. Several reviewers described private rooms as attractive and well-appointed, and some noted that the facility’s environment and on-site amenities can be pleasant and accommodating.

At the same time, a number of operational weaknesses recur across reviews. Cleanliness and odor-control practices are inconsistent: some accounts describe well-maintained, odor-free rooms, while others identify sanitation concerns in common areas and bathrooms. Staffing levels appear variable; reviewers reported delayed buzzer responses and periods when basic personal-care tasks (including bathing and toileting assistance) were not delivered on a reliable schedule. These delays are linked in reviews to both care-quality frustrations and family dissatisfaction.

Dining and nutrition also show mixed performance. Several reviewers noted cold food, insufficient portions, and limited beverage access between meals. More seriously, there are reports of inconsistent allergy and meal-management processes that led to missed meals for residents with dietary restrictions. These items point to a need for clearer dietary protocols and stronger kitchen–clinical communication.

Facility maintenance and comfort are uneven. While some private rooms and common spaces were described as attractive, other comments highlighted outdated furniture and limited accommodation for larger residents. Management and administrative responsiveness were another frequent concern: families reported difficulties with billing follow-through and slow or inadequate responses to care-related communications. A subset of reviews raised concerns about staff morale and alleged retaliatory behavior, which could affect staffing stability and the overall culture of care.

Overall pattern: prospective residents and families may encounter a facility with strong, compassionate nursing staff and comfortable private rooms but should be prepared to evaluate operational consistency. Key areas to review in person include current staffing levels and response times, sanitation protocols, allergy and dietary procedures, and the facility’s approach to administrative communication and billing. Asking for recent inspection results, staffing ratios by shift, and documentation of dietary/allergy policies may help clarify whether the facility’s strengths are being reliably delivered day-to-day.

About Agape - A Waters Community

Agape - A Waters Community, also called Agape Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, sits at 505 North Roan Street in Johnson City, TN, and has been around since 1959, connected with the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church, which shows a long history in the area as a nonprofit community focused on retirement and long-term care. Residents find several levels of care here including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and short-term or long-term rehabilitation services, which can really help when needs change over time, and there's even an accredited rehabilitation facility onsite recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

People here get support with daily activities through staff who help with bathing, dressing, transfers, and medication management, plus there are nurses available for 12 to 16 hours daily, and a 24-hour call system for emergencies, which gives another layer of safety. The nursing staff handles wound care, podiatry, occupational therapy, medication support, and there are detailed care plans based on initial assessments, so residents get medical and personal care that fits their own needs, and family members can talk through care or ask about billing and long-term care insurance, including help figuring out Medicare and Medicaid coverage. There's also an admission service that works around the clock.

Agape offers plenty of activities and wellness programs, so people can join scheduled daily events, arts and crafts, education programs, movie nights, music sessions, and exercise in the fitness center or join outdoor programs, or just spend time in communal areas like the activities room, library, arts room, game room, or movie theater, and the staff offers some resident-run events too, which means seniors can help shape their own schedules and social life. Folks here enjoy restaurant-style dining in a big community dining room, with allergy-friendly choices and meals suited for people with diabetes, plus housekeeping, laundry, and personal care assistants all help make daily life easier.

Rooms have kitchenettes or kitchens, washers and dryers, cable TV, private bathrooms, and air conditioning, while Wi-Fi lets residents stay connected, and there are safety features like sprinkler systems, smoke alarms, and handicap-accessible spaces in both rooms and common areas. People have access to guest parking, transportation, a salon/barbershop, business rooms, spa/wellness rooms, and walking paths, so visitors find it easy to stop by. Agape offers religious and chaplain services, which some families find important, and residents can always find staff support because the property has 24-hour supervision and security.

Agape Nursing & Rehabilitation Center trains certified nursing assistants (CNAs), keeps licensing and inspection records available for review, and explains the different types of care offered, so families know the differences between assisted living, skilled nursing, and independent living. The staff encourages discussions with doctors so everyone understands a resident's exact needs, and care plans change when necessary. They accept private pay, Medicare, Medicaid, most major HMO coverage, and long-term insurance.

Agape - A Waters Community shows a 3.3 review rating from several families, and the facility isn't currently accepting new patients. All tours, including virtual visits, are available and it helps to call ahead to ask about wait lists, move-in procedures, or to set up a consultation. Agape's mission focuses on quality care, healthy communication, and a supportive environment for both residents and their families, with a staff managed daily by Strawberry Fields principals and part of a larger group of healthcare communities in the region.
