    Warm, clean, professional memory care

I toured Cedar Hill and placed my dad here - the staff (Shanté and Tadessa especially) are warm, efficient and genuinely caring, and administration and the DON are professional and responsive. The building is inviting, very clean with no odors, residents seemed happy, activities and family events are well run, and accommodations are handled promptly. It's a peaceful, well-kept hill-country location with knowledgeable memory-care staff - not perfect, but very close.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews describe a facility with clear strengths and persistent operational challenges. Many families praised the direct-care workforce and highlighted individual staff members who provide compassionate, respectful interactions; the memory-care team and certain long-term employees were singled out for clinical competence and warm engagement. Administration and social-work staff are noted as accessible by some visitors, and the admissions process and accommodations are often described as timely. The campus setting, grounds, and holiday programming are recurrent positives that contribute to a welcoming visitor experience.

Care quality is uneven. Several families described reliable, attentive care delivered by committed nurses and aides, while other accounts indicate delays in attending to resident needs and inconsistencies in personal-care routines such as bathing. There are specific concerns about incontinence-care practices and delayed linen or clothing changes. Communication from nurses and management is variable: some relatives report good two-way communication and prompt responses, whereas others experienced difficulty getting timely follow-up or after-hours access assistance.

Dining and activities present a mixed picture. Event dining and holiday meals are frequently praised as well-prepared and plentiful, and some residents enjoy the activity calendar and social events. At the same time, activity engagement appears inconsistent, particularly within the secured memory unit where participation and programming availability were identified as limited by some families.

Facility condition and housekeeping are inconsistent across areas. Positive comments note clean, well-kept public spaces and pleasing landscaping. Conversely, there are sanitation and odor concerns reported in certain resident areas, along with pest-control issues and lapses in housekeeping and laundry handling. The building and furnishings are often described as dated and in need of renovation; room size and layout limitations were also noted.

Operational issues appear to underlie several negative reports. High staff turnover, reliance on agency or contract personnel, and staffing shortages contribute to variability in service continuity and responsiveness. There are also allegations of retaliatory scheduling after staff raised concerns, which is a serious personnel and governance issue families mentioned. Gaps in after-hours procedures and front-door access were also described, creating occasional access and security frustrations for families.

In summary, Cedar Hill Health Care Center offers notable strengths — engaged caregivers, a capable memory-care team in parts of the facility, attractive grounds, and well-run social events — alongside recurring operational weaknesses: inconsistent staffing and reliance on temporary staff, variable personal-care and sanitation practices, and uneven management communication. Prospective residents and families should weigh the positive staff interactions and community aspects against the documented variability in housekeeping, personal care routines, and administrative follow-through; an in-person tour focused on unit-level cleanliness, staffing patterns, and communication processes is recommended before placement.

About Cedar Hill Health Care Center

Cedar Hill Health Care Center has both long-term and short-term skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services, and you'll find the place set on a nicely landscaped, gated campus that gives a little peace of mind for residents and their families. The center takes care of elderly residents by encouraging independence and aiming for a better quality of life, and staff pay attention to individual needs while trying to build good relationships. The center offers around-the-clock nursing care for people who need healing from surgery, strokes, joint replacements, fractures, spinal cord injuries, or complicated health issues, and it also takes care of people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia with specialized memory care in a secured unit. There's IV therapy, tracheostomy care, wound care by experts, pain management, cardiac care, pulmonary management, diabetes care, and programs for bariatric care or gastric tubes, and all these services get handled by licensed nurses and rehabilitation professionals who create care plans specific to each person.

The rehab department uses physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and has equipment like the Activities of daily living bathroom and OmniCycle, and they also use things like electrical stimulation and diathermy to help people recover their strength and skills, so a person who's here for a short time after some serious illness or surgery can work toward regaining independence, while those needing longer care get support for comfort and quality of life. Cedar Hill Health Care Center has regular access to a medical director along with consulting doctors in psychiatry, neurology, mental health, dentistry, wound care, optometry, and podiatry. There's a registered dietitian who's responsible for food and dietary services, and the kitchen prepares healthy meals every day.

The place provides respite and vacation care so families can get a break, as well as hospice care for those at the end of life. Staff manage medication, help with pain, provide mental health support, and handle cases from the time someone is admitted until discharge, along with medical records management and business office help for financial needs. Cedar Hill Health Care Center has therapy and care departments led by professionals who work with patients to set therapy goals and provide short-term rehab, long-term care, or even vacation and respite stays when needed, all in a 120-bed skilled nursing facility that's recently remodeled for comfort. Residents get help with housekeeping, laundry, transportation for doctor's appointments or dialysis, and there are both social and spiritual activities arranged by the education director and social services staff. The center uses telehealth to connect people to healthcare if getting out is too hard. Cedar Hill emphasizes treating people kindly and with professional care, and the full range of services aims to support every resident's health, independence, and peace of mind.
