    Compassionate attentive memory care, recommended

I placed my mom in memory/assisted care here and I'm very grateful. The owner Ken is hands-on, staff are compassionate, knowledgeable and attentive, and the spotless, home-like facility in a beautiful hill-country setting gave us real peace of mind. Meals were delicious and personalized, communication and hospice coordination were timely, and the team consistently went above and beyond for her complex needs. It's a small, family-style community I'd recommend - overall excellent care with just a little room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

Riva Ridge is described consistently as a small, home-like assisted living and memory care community that emphasizes personalized attention and a family-style atmosphere. Families and visitors frequently highlight the caregiving team's compassion, visible caregiver design, and a hands-on ownership/management presence that visits regularly and communicates proactively. The facility's setting — a large, tree-filled lot with porches and gardens — and its clean, tranquil interiors are repeatedly identified as contributors to resident comfort and a calm day-to-day environment.

Care and staffing are the strongest themes in the reviews. Caregivers are characterized as attentive and knowledgeable, with many references to prompt medication administration, organized routines, two-person transfers for higher-dependency residents, and close coordination with hospice. Reviewers indicate that these practices provide notable peace of mind, particularly for families seeking attentive end-of-life care. High staff-to-resident ratios are cited as enabling individualized attention and timely responses during the day.

Dining and daily living receive positive remarks: meals are described as home-cooked, enthusiastically received, and adaptable to individual dietary preferences, including culturally specific accommodations. Housekeeping and sanitation are generally praised, and the facility is often called spotless and well maintained. The small size and domestic scale are viewed positively by many families because they foster autonomy and personal attention.

Several operational and programmatic weaknesses recur in the feedback. A number of families express concern about staffing consistency and training, citing turnover and variable professionalism among some employees. Clinical depth is identified as limited in some cases — notably the absence of regular on-site nursing coverage — which may affect families who require higher levels of medical oversight. Nighttime staffing and responsiveness are described as variable; this is an operational trait families should probe during a tour.

Activity programming is another area with mixed impressions. While the facility hosts occasional social events (parties, bingo, choir visits), reviewers also note a sparse or lightly scheduled activities roster and less day-to-day social interaction for some residents. Safety and privacy issues are mentioned as operational considerations: unsecured exterior doors have raised security concerns, and at least one family cited privacy-management questions related to in-room cameras. The facility's rural or hill-country location is attractive to many but also creates access challenges in severe weather and may be a longer drive for some visitors.

Management strengths and weaknesses are both evident. The owner/director's daily involvement and responsiveness are frequently praised and are central to the facility's identity. At the same time, some families describe inconsistent managerial tone or treatment of staff, which aligns with the turnover concerns noted above. Reviewers also mention that the community is relatively small and sometimes priced higher than larger alternatives, so prospective families should weigh cost against the personalized service model.

Overall, Riva Ridge appears to be a highly individualized, compassion-driven option for families who prioritize a home-like setting, strong caregiver attention, and close owner involvement. Prospective residents and families should verify clinical staffing schedules, nighttime coverage, activity programming, and door/privacy controls during a visit to ensure the community's operational characteristics match their clinical and lifestyle needs.

About Riva Ridge Assisted Living & Memory Care Center

Riva Ridge Assisted Living & Memory Care Center sits as a small and cozy place with room for just 16 residents, making it feel more like a family home than a big institution, and you'll notice right away how the staff and residents treat each other with kindness and respect, since everyone seems to know one another and the staff, who include certified nurses' assistants, are around day and night to help with anything from bathing and dressing to medication, walking, and eating. The place is registered as a Type B small, Alzheimer's certified Assisted Living Facility, so it's geared for folks who have memory issues like dementia or Alzheimer's, and the Memory Care services are clearly a big part of what goes on here, with staff making sure people feel safe and comfortable whether they live in private or semi-private rooms that open up to shared dining and activity spaces. The kitchen prepares homestyle, nutritious meals, and dining is almost like being at a family table, since the food's won awards and the menus can fit what each resident likes or needs, while there's plenty of organized activities and social time, which is important for keeping spirits up and helping folks stay active and engaged, with activities, transportation, internet, and even parking all included. The community makes a strong effort to include every resident, giving the same level of care and welcome to all, as a Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity Provider, and personal care plans are set up for each person, adjusting as needs change over time, so it never feels one-size-fits-all, and there are always enough caregivers around to notice when someone needs extra attention. The facility, which had a remodel back in 2018, is laid out to feel peaceful and home-like, with a landscape that gives a sense of calm, and you'll find everything set up for comfort and dignity, right down to the way daily living support, cleaning, and meals are handled, so residents can just focus on enjoying their days, building friendships, and feeling a sense of belonging.
