    Warm attentive family-like care setting

I placed my mother here and am deeply grateful - the staff are warm, attentive, and truly caring, treating residents like family in a cozy, clean, home-like house with wonderful homemade meals and lovely outdoor spaces. Owners and staff are hands-on and responsive, with consistent, dignified care through end of life, helpful communication (daily photo updates) and accommodating support for guardianship/move-in. It's a small, safe, peaceful setting with great value and I would recommend it as a top choice in San Antonio.

    Summary of reviews

Carol Ann's Home Assisted Living is consistently described as a small, family‑run residential setting that emphasizes a home-like atmosphere and personalized caregiving. Reviewers frequently highlight compassionate, attentive staff and low staff turnover, which families link to continuity of care and individualized attention. The facility’s small census (around 15 residents) and family-style routines allow staff to provide bedside assistance, medication security, and regular family communication, including photo updates.

Dining and daily living are notable strengths. Multiple accounts describe varied, home-cooked menus prepared by an on-site cook or chef several days a week, buffet-style offerings with fruits and salads, and large dining-room gatherings. Food quality, presentation, and family-style service are cited as contributors to residents’ enjoyment. Outdoor amenities such as a well-kept garden, walking areas, and views (including golf-course vistas) are repeatedly mentioned as positive features that support residents’ quality of life.

Activity programming includes music, exercise, games, reading and holiday events; families appreciated social interaction, seasonal celebrations, and meaningful engagement. That said, reviewers also suggested areas for enrichment—examples include more consistent afternoon/snack offerings and more frequent or varied activities for some residents. A few reviews indicated staff were sometimes occupied with phones during shifts, which can limit spontaneous engagement.

Facility and room characteristics are generally described as clean and well maintained, with comfortable common areas and personalized resident rooms. The home offers a mix of private and semi-private accommodations; however, room sizes and private-room availability are variable, and some families noted smaller room dimensions or limited private outdoor yard space. The property’s residential character—older house layout and some uneven lighting—contributes to the home-like feel but may not suit families seeking a bright, institutional-style facility.

Management and administrative patterns show both strengths and inconsistencies. Many families praise owner involvement, a supportive manager, reasonable all-inclusive pricing, and helpful admissions support. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent responsiveness to phone calls and voicemail, limited transparency around budgeting and financial details during intake, and occasional brusque interactions from administrative staff. Availability constraints and the potential for a waitlist were also mentioned as operational realities.

Overall, Carol Ann's Home Assisted Living appears well suited to families seeking a small, non‑corporate residence with attentive caregiving, home-style meals, meaningful social activities, and strong end-of-life/hospice support. Prospective residents and families should verify room configuration and size, clarify financial and admissions details up front, discuss the fit for residents with significant dementia-related needs, and confirm current activity schedules and outdoor access during a tour.

About Carol Ann's Home Assisted Living

Carol Ann's Home Assisted Living feels more like a big family house than a facility, with room for up to 15 or 16 people in shared housing that keeps things comfortable and calm, and the buildings themselves used to be family homes, with one even sitting by a golf course and another tucked in a wooded area, so everything about the place says home rather than institution. Residents get care and help with daily living-things like bathing, dressing, eating, going to the bathroom, and getting in and out of bed or a wheelchair-plus skilled nursing, medicine reminders, help with mobility, and hospice care if needed, with staff there around the clock to check on everyone's safety and comfort. They have room choices that include private apartments and everyone gets cable or satellite TV, a telephone in their room, and emergency alert systems are in place for peace of mind.

There's a common dining room for those who want to eat with others, ongoing refreshments, and the kitchens are open for all-day dining if your schedule runs late or you're just hungry at a different time, while meals are cooked with health needs in mind and planned out for allergies, diabetes, or special diets, plus room service if somebody's not feeling up to joining. The home offers plenty to do-games, arts and crafts, music, movies, computers, gardening, and hobby groups, plus fitness rooms and exercise programs for those who want to stay active, and there's a garden outside for little walks or sitting if you want some fresh air, with walking paths and easy access to transportation for shopping or medical appointments. There are regular religious services and family gatherings, especially on holidays, so things feel lively and friendly, and the staff encourage social activities to keep everyone engaged.

Staff makes each care plan fit the individual, calling this a Person-Centered approach, and that means extra support for those who need more memory care, have a harder time following directions, or need night help or extra attention moving about. There's also a focus on helping people stay as independent as they can be, but not letting anyone slip through the cracks, with plenty of support in place for laundry, housekeeping, maintenance, and things like dry cleaning, so residents can focus on enjoying their day and not worry about chores piling up.

Carol Ann's Home is licensed in Texas with Facility ID 103570 and License Nos. 145957 and 144136, and they meet state requirements for health and safety checks, which is important because the safety of residents is always front and center. There's support for disabilities, including assistive technology, benefits help, counseling, therapy, vocational rehab, adult and childcare, bathrooms designed for accessibility, and even bereavement and grief support for families who need it. Veterans Affairs Aid Assistance is available if you qualify, and there's Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity at work. Rent covers everything-meals, support, housekeeping, laundry- with flexible payment plans in place. Staff help new residents move in and make sure they get settled, giving tours to families who want a look around.

The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, with seniors often seen watching TV, listening to music, or playing games together, and while nobody's perfect, people say they feel respected and cared for. The facility has earned a 4.5-star average from 13 reviews. It's a for-profit company, but the focus really does stay on comfort, safety, and daily life for its small group of residents who want some help but also a bit of peace and independence.
