    Moved mom to caring community

I toured Preston Place and moved my mom here - the staff quickly felt like family and gave us real peace of mind. The facility is homey, immaculate, and updated, with roomy apartments, lovely outdoor spaces, and fantastic meals from an on-site chef. The activities director keeps residents busy with varied events, and the staff (Nichole and others especially) are attentive, compassionate, and genuinely connected to the residents. Overall I'm very pleased - a small, safe, pet-friendly community where my mom is happy and well cared for.

    Summary of reviews

Preston Place is described across reviews as a small, home-like assisted living community with a strong emphasis on personal attention. Many families highlight a compassionate, patient-focused staff and named caregivers who provide routine nursing checks, vital-sign monitoring, and visible clinical presence. The community’s smaller scale is associated with close staff–resident relationships, frequent check-ins, and a slower, quieter pace that multiple families found appropriate for residents who prefer an intimate environment.

Dining and activities are central to the community’s appeal for many residents. Several accounts praise an on-site chef, frequent refreshments, and a well-kept dining room; the activities program is described as active and varied, including arts and crafts, gardening, puzzles, bingo, outings, and social events led by an engaged activities director. At the same time, there are operational inconsistencies: reviewers describe occasional delays in meal delivery, limited meal choices at times, and intermittent lapses in food quality and timeliness. The smaller size also means programming breadth can be more limited than at larger communities, with fewer evening events and less regular transportation for resident errands.

Facility amenities and upkeep receive generally positive notes: common areas, courtyards, patios, and walking paths are described as bright, landscaped, and secure; apartments are reported as comfortable and reasonably sized, with features such as kitchenettes and safety adaptations. The community is pet-friendly and maintains laundry and housekeeping services. However, housekeeping consistency is uneven in some accounts, with isolated sanitation and cleanliness issues noted that prospective families may wish to verify during a visit.

Management and operational patterns show a mix of strengths and areas for caution. Many reviewers commend core staff members and point to strong, compassionate leadership and hands-on caregiving. Conversely, others raise concerns about intermittent staffing shortages and use of temporary staff, which some families link to variability in service. Several reviews reference difficulties around contract terms, refunds, or billing communication; these suggest the need for clear, written discussions about fees, contract cancellation processes, and refund timelines prior to move-in. A few families also expressed concerns about staff conduct, favoritism, and the desire for better safety monitoring (for example, more systematic surveillance or fall-prevention measures).

Bottom line: Preston Place may be a good fit for families seeking a small, residential setting with personalized, relationship-driven care, an active activities program, and on-site dining prepared by a chef. Prospective residents and families should meet core caregivers, ask about recent staffing stability, request written schedules for meals and housekeeping, clarify contract and refund policies, and discuss the community’s safety-monitoring protocols to determine whether the facility’s operational practices match their care and oversight expectations.

The staff provides housekeeping, laundry, linen service, and maintenance, and there's a beautician and a full-service salon for a haircut or a little pampering, while families can join in for meals or special events, and residents can even have pets. For those who smoke, there's an outdoor smoking area, and the community is secured with emergency response systems, security, and staff on duty around the clock, with controlled building access and fall prevention programs, and parking is available for residents and guests. If someone needs to get somewhere, transportation can be arranged for medical visits or errands, and there are accessible vans and ambulatory assistance as needed, either at cost or sometimes complimentary, and Medicaid, private pay, social security, and veteran's benefits are accepted along with private insurance, plus elderlife financial planning and other payment options if help is needed sorting out the costs, and there are fees like community, respite, and second person, but staff can estimate these for you. There's a focus on providing a caring and personal environment, with plenty of common spaces like lounges, a library, a creative studio, a game room, and an outdoor patio or courtyard with enclosed walking paths, and the calendar fills up with arts, music, education, sports, and seasonal events, and the staff supports residents in staying independent for as long as possible while helping with whatever comes up as people age.
