Neglected building, helpful maintenance, unsafe
I live at Salem Village and would give it a 4/5 overall, but it's a mixed bag. The building shows neglect: ancient, moldy carpets and a musty smell, hallways without air conditioning, and ongoing maintenance problems. Management is lousy - rarely around (appointment-only Thursdays), rude, sometimes dishonest, and I've seen denied applications and ignored tenant concerns; security is poor too (car break-ins/parking-lot theft) with no effective response. On the plus side I can live independently in my own apartment, the onsite landlord/maintenance is helpful for in-unit issues, and I have a garage, but I wouldn't recommend it for frail seniors.
