    Compassionate dementia care, family-like community

My mom moved into this lovely, meticulous community and I'm very pleased. The staff are kind, compassionate and attentive - the manager and caregivers go above and beyond, communication is excellent, dementia care is exceptional, and residents are well groomed with tasty meals. It's family-like, convenient for visits, set on beautiful grounds with large rooms, and represents good value; I feel comfortable recommending it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment in the reviews of Mariana's AFH Inc. is strongly positive, with multiple reviewers highlighting high-quality, attentive care and a caring, respectful staff. Several comments emphasize that residents are well looked after: they are clean, groomed (nails and hair done), and dressed nicely with outfits prepared for visits. Reviewers describe the home as meticulous and home-like, suggesting consistent attention to day-to-day details that contribute to residents’ dignity and appearance. The phrase "perfect for mom" and similar notes indicate family members feel comfortable entrusting loved ones to the facility.

Staff performance and family interactions are recurring strengths. Reviewers explicitly call staff kind, respectful, and supportive, and note that staff welcomed family visits. The environment is described as a caring community that attends to individual needs, which points to personalized care rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. The positive remarks about staff caring for residents combined with the willingness to facilitate visits are strong indicators of a family-oriented culture.

Facility and setting receive consistent praise. Multiple summaries mention very clean premises, new facilities, large rooms and bathrooms, and tidy, well-maintained common areas. Outdoor characteristics—"wide open spaces" and "tall trees"—are highlighted, suggesting pleasant grounds and a peaceful setting. The combination of new construction or updated facilities with thoughtful landscaping contributes to an attractive, comfortable living environment.

Dining and presentation are also noted positively; meals are described as looking delicious, which implies acceptable food quality and presentation. Small, visible signs of attention—such as preparing outfits for visits and keeping nails and hair done—reinforce an impression that staff take pride in residents’ appearance and daily experience, beyond basic care tasks.

There are a few notable concerns and limitations mentioned. One review details a pandemic-related policy that required a resident to stay isolated in their room for two weeks; this separation caused distress and dissatisfaction among family members. That account suggests that while policies may have been implemented for safety, their impact on residents and families was significant and not universally accepted. Another point of concern is the implication that some residents might require a higher level of medical or custodial care than the facility can provide; a family member raised the possibility of needing a nursing home or additional aide. This suggests the home may be best suited for residents needing assistance with daily living but not for those requiring intensive skilled nursing.

Finally, demand appears high—"no vacancies" was reported—which can be interpreted positively as a sign of reputation and satisfaction but also practically means limited availability for prospective residents. In summary, reviews portray Mariana's AFH Inc. as a clean, well-run, and caring small facility with attentive staff, attractive grounds, and good meals, particularly well suited to residents who need compassionate assisted living rather than intensive nursing care. Prospective families should be aware of how the facility manages higher-acuity needs and should clarify policies (especially around infection-control isolation and family communication) prior to placement.

    About Mariana's AFH Inc.

Mariana's AFH Inc. offers assisted living and specialized memory care in a quiet Newcastle, Washington neighborhood known for its tall trees and natural beauty, and there's also a Renton location nearby with a family room and water fountain in the open courtyard, so there are choices for different tastes in setting. Both homes feature large, private bedrooms and bathrooms that are wheelchair-accessible, have walk-in showers, and include smoke alarms for safety, and the rooms feel neat thanks to regular housekeeping, maintenance, and thoughtful touches like flat-screen TVs and central A/C in some areas. There's a comfortable public living room, a big dining room, outdoor sitting spots like a gazebo or a deck with rails, and open landscaping for residents and their visitors, along with guest and resident parking.

Staff at Mariana's AFH Inc. provide support with everyday tasks like bathing, dressing, medications, transferring with one- or two-person help or mechanical lifts, and incontinence care, with staff available 24 hours a day and awake staff always on hand to monitor residents, which helps families feel more at ease about safety, especially for folks with Alzheimer's or behavioral needs. The property uses technology like bracelets with alarms, a secure memory care building, and a computerized alert system for wandering or elopement risks, so residents who struggle with memory loss are protected, and families get more peace of mind.

Meals come freshly made with options for different diets, including organic, gluten-free, low sodium, vegan, vegetarian, and kosher, and residents can eat when they want with anytime dining, while nail and hair care are regular parts of the schedule and a beautician is on site. Mariana's AFH Inc. arranges rides for medical appointments, errand trips, and fun outings, and there are onsite and offsite activities, devotional services, and wellness programs, which help residents stay active and involved.

Healthcare services include help from visiting doctors and therapists-like podiatrists, physical, occupational, and speech therapists-and skilled diabetes care, except for sliding scale therapy. The team can handle light to heavy care, including complex nursing tasks and behavioral management for those who need it. Medication help, behavioral services, and hospice or respite care are available as well, and there's a secured section for memory care with its own building.

The inside is always clean and homely, thanks to hardwood floors, lots of windows, and a custom-built design to suit senior needs, and everything is kept tidy with staff taking care to maintain a loving, community feeling. Mariana's AFH Inc. welcomes family visits, offers facility tours, and provides guidance through a Family Advisor so families can feel more confident when making their decisions. There are six private licensed beds in the Newcastle location, with other options at Renton, and rooms tend to be bigger than average. Mariana's AFH Inc. serves those paying privately or with Medicaid, but doesn't take Medicare, as it's licensed as a boarding house rather than a traditional assisted living facility, and reviews from residents and families average 4.5 out of 5 stars, with comments noting the capable, caring staff, the beautiful outside spaces, and a general feeling of dignity and respect for everyone who lives there. Room pricing for memory care averages $7,000 per month.
