    Helpful staff, excellent care, secure

My father lives here and I'm very pleased - the staff are helpful, understanding, and responsive, the care and food are excellent, and communication and security give me peace of mind. The facility is newer, bright and very clean with large, homey rooms, a brand-new commercial kitchen and dining area, and lovely landscaped grounds with courtyard access close to Martinsburg.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive, with multiple reviewers emphasizing the facilitys attractive country setting, clean and modern physical plant, and an open, homey atmosphere. The building is described as newer with a better layout, large bright rooms, nicely landscaped grounds, private exterior doors, and exterior courtyard access. Cleanliness and upkeep are repeatedly noted; reviewers mention a brand-new commercial kitchen and well-kept dining areas. The propertys proximity to Martinsburg and plans for future expansion are also viewed positively.

Staff and care receive consistent praise. Reviewers use terms like friendly, helpful, understanding, and good listener to describe the staff and note that communication from the team is responsive. Several comments single out staff for providing good care and safety, and one reviewer specifically mentions a family member liking the food and being well cared for. Holiday get-togethers and community activities are mentioned, contributing to a home-like environment and social opportunities for residents.

Dining and kitchen operations are highlighted as strengths. The presence of a brand-new commercial kitchen, a dedicated dining room, and descriptions of the kitchen as "well-kept" and smelling delicious indicate that meals and meal service are a conspicuous positive. Multiple reviewers comment favorably on the food, and dining appears to be an area where the facility shines.

Despite the largely favorable impressions, there are notable concerns and patterns that recur across the reviews. A few reviewers indicate that some residents are bedbound and that the facility sometimes feels more like a nursing home than a traditional assisted living environment. Related to that, there are comments that residents are not encouraged to use the courtyard, which raises questions about how much independence and access to outdoor spaces residents are actually given. These observations point to two possible issues: higher-acuity residents in residence and/or policies or routines that limit resident mobility and outdoor access.

Taken together, the reviews depict a clean, well-maintained, and attractive assisted living community with a strong emphasis on friendly, responsive staff and good dining. The most important caveats for prospective residents or families are the reports about resident acuity and restrictions on courtyard use, and the perception that the home can operate more like a nursing home. Anyone considering the facility should follow up with management about current resident mix, mobility policies, and how independence and outdoor access are encouraged to ensure the communitys level of care and day-to-day routines match their expectations.

    About Countryside Assisted Living

Countryside Assisted Living, licensed under number 507547, opened its doors in 2008 and sits in Martinsburg, West Virginia, on 1228 Berkeley Station Rd with a small, quiet setting of just 12 beds, which keeps things close-knit and peaceful. The facility offers many types of care under one roof, calling itself a continuing care retirement community, so folks can find assisted living, memory care, nursing care, or independent living help without needing to move as their needs change. Staff includes an RN with more than 18 years of experience, LPNs who know the residents well, and an Activities Director who makes sure there's always something meaningful planned, whether that's community-sponsored activities, movie nights, or walks outside on the garden paths when the weather's nice, and you know, everyone gets to join in if they want. Because it has emergency alert systems and provides transportation, families and residents feel a little more peace of mind about safety and getting where you need to go for appointments or outings. Rooms come furnished, and there's a dining room for scheduled meals; meal prep covers special diets, including for allergies or diabetes, and housekeeping with laundry-even dry cleaning-makes life easier for everyone living there. The staff offers help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, taking medicine, and moving around, and provide 24-hour supervision backed by staff who describe themselves as friends and confidants, always present to help or share a story. The building is wheelchair-accessible, has features for non-ambulatory residents, and works with local healthcare providers to help with any medical changes as people age. The atmosphere is described as loving, respectful, and focused on trust, since the management team and many of the staff have deep roots in the area and have been running things as a family for over 20 years, which probably explains why people say the culture feels like home. Residents can enjoy daily activities that keep the mind active and the spirit calm, so there's always something going on unless you feel like taking it easy in the garden instead, and everyone is encouraged to live at their own pace. It's got a 5.0 rating based on one review, which isn't much to go on, but it's something. Level II assisted living services are always available, and memory care support is there for those who need it, so most folks get what they need in terms of comfort, safety, and a bit of companionship in a simple, homelike setting.
