    Warm attentive family-oriented pet-friendly care

I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased - the eight-room, family-oriented home is spotless, comfortable, affordable and pet-friendly. Management and staff are warm, respectful and hands-on, offering personalized care, proactive health monitoring, good meals, private baths, bingo, gardening and outings; clear family communication made her feel right at home, so I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Timberwood Lodge presents as a small, home‑style assisted living and memory‑care provider with a strong emphasis on individualized, family‑oriented care. Many families described caregivers and administrative staff as warm, attentive, and willing to adapt routines to resident preferences. The facility’s small scale (eight units) is repeatedly framed as a benefit: private baths, good‑sized bright rooms, and a familiar, residential atmosphere that many reviewers said helped residents feel at home.

Care and staff: Reviewers consistently praised the caregiving team for hands‑on assistance, respectful interactions, and proactive monitoring of resident health needs. Several comments highlighted a supportive administrator and visible owner/director involvement, which families linked to clear communication and responsive care in day‑to‑day situations. At the same time, multiple comments referenced staffing challenges; the facility appears to operate with a lean team, and reviewers expressed a desire for more consistent staffing coverage and scheduling stability.

Dining and nutrition: Dining is generally described positively. Meals were called home‑style and well prepared, with accommodations for dietary needs (for example, lactose‑free options). Occasional mentions of on‑site grilling and communal meal activities contribute to the home‑like dining experience. Reviewers appreciated outings that include dining out as part of the social program.

Activities and social life: Programming includes regular social activities such as bingo and group recreation, gardening and outdoor access, and periodic outings (boating, dining out, local trips). These offerings support social engagement and a family‑focused environment. A minority of comments expressed a wish for a broader range or greater frequency of activities and outings, suggesting activity variety may be constrained by staff resources or the facility’s small size.

Facilities and amenities: The physical environment is described as clean, bright, and well maintained. Garden boxes, an on‑site dog, and outdoor spaces contribute to a homelike feel. The small scale and private baths were cited as positive features for privacy and comfort.

Management and operational patterns: While many families praised current leadership and strong on‑site involvement, there are recurring operational concerns tied to management transitions. Reviewers described negative experiences associated with administrative change, including difficulties with placement continuity and less helpful transition support at critical moments. These issues point to two operational patterns: (1) turnover or leadership change can disrupt established communication and placement practices; and (2) the facility’s small size and staffing model can limit its capacity to absorb last‑minute placement requests or expand activity offerings without adding staff.

Bottom line: Timberwood Lodge appears well suited to families seeking a small, home‑like assisted living or memory‑care setting with attentive, personalized caregiving, accommodating meals, and regular social activities. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against operational limitations tied to staffing levels, activity breadth, and potential disruptions during management transitions. Clarifying current staffing ratios, activity schedules, and the facility’s policies for readmission or sudden placement needs would help families assess fit and prepare for contingencies during administrative changes.

    About Timberwood Lodge Assisted Living

Timberwood Lodge Assisted Living has two small home-like facilities, one in Madison's Country Grove neighborhood and one in Lake Mills, both owned and operated by the Bachmann family since 2018, offering eight beds each so residents can enjoy a calm, intimate setting. Staff members have over a decade of experience and provide around-the-clock care, including help with meals, bathing, dressing, housekeeping, laundry, and medication management, and you'll see management, caregivers, and residents sharing laughter and conversation most days, especially since they work hard to build close relationships that make everyone feel like family. Residents get their own bedroom and a private bathroom, enjoy home-cooked meals and unlimited snacks, and can choose vegetarian or Kosher food; there's also a beautician onsite for hair care and grooming, and the community welcomes weekly live entertainment, onsite activities, plus trips offsite for outings or devotional services.

The memory care unit stays secure and supports those with dementia or Alzheimer's with customized programs and routines to help them maintain independence, while staff pays attention to each person's abilities and builds a special care plan, often making daily life easier with clear routines and extra patience. Timberwood Lodge takes pride in providing services focused on health, wellness, and dignity, with transportation to appointments, diabetes management, and scheduled activities all part of regular life. There's both indoor and outdoor common space where residents can relax or join in on social, educational, and spiritual programs, and the vibe is generally cheerful and neighborly, with a therapy dog that many residents love. The community's close to restaurants, pharmacies, and shops within walking distance for those who want to get out, but with only eight beds and consistent staff on-site, there's a warm, safe, and clean feeling all throughout, something many families notice right away. Timberwood Lodge keeps the focus on individual needs, maintaining a supportive environment where residents matter more than financial gain, and they involve families through regular tours that show what daily life looks like and how each person is cared for in this family-run community.
