    Welcoming community with excellent care

I moved my father here after a very positive tour - the facility is beautiful, bright and impeccably clean. Staff and management are consistently friendly, attentive and communicative; caregivers knew his likes, helped with individualized care plans, and an on-site nurse was very involved. There are plenty of activities, a welcoming dining program with high-quality meals, apartment-style rooms and a lovely outdoor patio that make it feel like home. I'm very pleased with the care and would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

The Courtyard at Oshkosh presents a physically attractive, well-appointed assisted living and memory-care environment with many elements families frequently value: bright, decorated common areas; private, apartment-style rooms; a single-floor layout that aids mobility; and pleasant outdoor and lounge spaces. On-site services such as a salon, spa-type bathing facilities, hospice-in-room option, and periodic chef-led dining events contribute to a residential feel. Numerous accounts emphasize warm, attentive caregivers who learn residents’ preferences and work with an on-site nurse to implement individualized care plans.

Care quality feedback is mixed. A substantial number of experiences describe attentive, personalized care with active nursing oversight and consistent caregiver assignments that foster strong staff–resident relationships. In contrast, other experiences point to operational weaknesses: inconsistent mealtimes and portioning, delays in scheduled personal care (for example, bathing coordination), and variability in staffing levels that can affect responsiveness. These contrasting impressions create a polarized overall sense of care quality — where outcomes appear to depend on staffing and shift coverage at particular times.

Staffing and staff conduct are prominent themes. Many families praise compassionate, engaged caregivers and visible staff presence during daytime hours. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about insufficient staffing, uneven coverage during after-hours, and instances characterized as problematic communication tone or unprofessional interactions. Reviewers also describe administrative variability: some administrators are praised for clear, frequent communication and hands-on involvement, while others are perceived as slow to address grievances, inconsistent in follow-through, or difficult to reach regarding billing and account closure matters.

Dining and housekeeping produce similarly mixed impressions. Positive accounts highlight special meal events, popular menu days, and a culinary approach led by an identified chef. Conversely, there are ongoing comments about inconsistent food quality, small portions or limited seconds, and variability when backup kitchen staff are working. Cleanliness and sanitation are generally cited as strengths for most common areas and rooms, but isolated sanitation concerns in service or specialty areas (for example, certain tubs or refrigeration/service surfaces) were mentioned and warrant targeted attention.

Activities and social life are clear strengths: residents and families frequently note an active calendar of social events, holiday programming, games, and resident-focused gatherings that contribute to a sense of belonging. Memory-care programming and trained staff in that neighborhood receive positive mentions, and many residents appear engaged and content with the activity offerings.

Notable patterns for prospective residents and families: experiences at this facility appear to be variable and often hinge on specific staffing levels, shift coverage, and administrative responsiveness. If considering this community, an in-person visit at different times (including an evening/weekend check), asking about staffing ratios and after-hours supervision, reviewing dining menus and portion policies, inquiring about sanitation checks for specialty areas, and requesting written grievance and billing-resolution procedures would help clarify whether the facility’s operational practices match your expectations. Overall, the Courtyard offers many desirable physical amenities and strong social programming, paired with caregiving strengths, but families should evaluate operational consistency and administrative responsiveness before committing.

    About The Courtyard at Oshkosh

The Courtyard at Oshkosh Assisted Living and Memory Care in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is a single-story community where seniors can get help while staying as independent as possible, and you'll see that residents have access to private apartments with single and deluxe-studio floor plans, private baths, and rooms with air conditioning, cable TV, telephones, and Wi-Fi, plus kitchenettes if needed, and everything stays bright and clean throughout. Staff members are friendly and always on hand to help with bathing, dressing, medication, and anything else residents might need day or night, with nursing care available 12 to 16 hours a day and a 24-hour call system, so someone's always nearby in case of an emergency. The community focuses on both assisted living and memory care, offering plans and support for people with all stages of Alzheimer's and dementia, and the care is built to fit individual needs, whether that's memory support, help with independence, or just encouragement through social activities.

Outdoors, you'll find plenty of walking paths, gardens, and sitting areas, including a peaceful central courtyard and patios, while indoors, there are things like a beauty salon, fitness and well-being rooms, a movie theater, arts and crafts room, music programs, activity spaces, and libraries, letting folks keep the hobbies and routines they enjoy. Days get filled up with a mix of scheduled activities-card games, art, music, exercise, day trips, devotional services, educational programs, and resident-led events all make it easy to stay active and connect with friends. The place is pet-friendly, so people can bring their furry companions along if they want, which helps it feel more like home for a lot of folks. Meals are cooked each day by a professional chef with input from a certified dietitian, and residents pick from a menu with restaurant-style and all-day dining options, plus choices fit for allergies, diabetes, or other special diets; there are also nourishing snacks, so no one has to go hungry between meals.

Services cover housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning, maintenance, transportation for medical visits or trips out, and a concierge for help with questions or needs, while there's move-in coordination so settling in can go a bit smoother. Residents get support with personal care, but the goal always stays set on independence and self-worth. People in both assisted living and memory care can count on custom care plans and extra safety features, especially for those with memory concerns, to help keep everyone comfortable and safe while living how they want.

The Courtyard at Oshkosh tries to give every resident a comfortable, welcoming environment, with private rooms, shared areas for meals and fun, and a strong sense of community-friendship and kinship get encouraged through shared meals, games, and special outings. The building and staff aim for a space where everyone gets the support and respect they want, with engaging daily life and healthcare nearby, and options for respite care are also in place, which can help families when caregivers need to be away for a while or need a break. As part of Encore Senior Living, The Courtyard at Oshkosh works to provide a secure, honest place for seniors to live safely, enjoy social time, and get the care they need without giving up the life they love.
