    Phenomenal staff; safe, happy mom

I moved my mom here and I'm very pleased - the staff are phenomenal, responsive and helpful, the building and apartments are immaculate and well-maintained, and she settled in quickly. Meals are excellent, there are lots of activities (bingo, music, exercise, outings), communication and proactive care are strong, and my mom feels safe, happy and well cared for - I'd recommend this community to other families.

    Summary of reviews

Home Harbor Assisted Living presents as a modern, well-kept community with a strong emphasis on hospitality and social programming. Reviewers consistently describe a clean, recently renovated physical plant with multiple apartment types, sizable patios or sliding-glass doors in many units, and hotel-like common areas. The facility offers a broad set of on-site amenities — dining rooms that resemble restaurants, a salon/barber, chapel, library, activity rooms, and secure parking — and several reviewers found the environment welcoming and family-like.

Staff and care: Staffing is repeatedly highlighted as a major strength. Families and residents praise compassionate, attentive caregivers and an admissions/administrative team that is helpful and communicative. Visiting clinical services (physician visits, physical therapy, foot care) and routine nursing tasks (vital-sign checks, medication support) are available, and therapy/rehab services receive positive mentions. At the same time, the community does not appear configured as a high-acuity skilled-nursing center; multiple reviewers noted that residents requiring more intensive clinical care would need a different level of service. There are also comments suggesting occasional delays in administrative responsiveness and onboarding, and some observations that staff changes have created navigation or communication gaps.

Dining and activities: Dining is generally described positively — good food, flexible meal accommodations, and a pleasant dining-room atmosphere. However, reviewers also describe variability in meal inclusion (two- versus three-meal plans) and additional meal-related charges in some cases; prospective families should review meal-plan details and fee schedules. The activity program is robust in normal operations, with frequent events (bingo, dances, crafts, exercise, field trips) and active social opportunities that residents value. Reviewers did note disruption to activities during infection-control or quarantine periods, which reduced programming temporarily.

Facilities and operations: The facility’s physical plant and housekeeping practices are well regarded, with many commenting on cleanliness and attractive common spaces. Apartment size and configuration can be a limiting factor for some residents — several accounts describe smaller one-bedroom or studio footprints and microwave-only kitchenettes in certain units, so those needing full kitchens or extra living space should confirm unit specifications. Financial and eligibility options (income-based pricing, tax-credit units, VA assistance) are available and seen as valuable, but a pattern of unexpected add-on charges for basic assistance (call-light responses, mobility assistance, meal extras) and some unclear disclosure around Medicaid/financial eligibility were raised; families should request a clear, itemized fee schedule and eligibility explanations.

Management and notable patterns: Reviewers frequently praise proactive management actions (for example, rapid infection-control steps) and an engaged admissions team. Positive workplace culture and staff teamwork are also mentioned, which correlate with consistent day-to-day care comments. Areas to investigate further during a visit include the facility’s capacity for higher-acuity care, detailed pricing transparency, how staff transitions are managed to avoid navigational confusion, and any follow-up about an isolated allegation of discriminatory or unprofessional conduct. Overall, Home Harbor appears to be a socially active, well-maintained assisted-living community with strong hospitality and programming; prospective residents and families will benefit from on-site visits that clarify unit sizes, specific clinical capabilities, and a written breakdown of all fees and service inclusions.

    About Home Harbor Assisted Living

Home Harbor Assisted Living sits in Racine, Wisconsin, offering seniors a choice of studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartments with private patios and balconies where you can sit, relax, or enjoy the view, and you'll find they have central air, big closets, full kitchens with refrigerators and microwaves, and easy-to-move-around layouts, which makes daily life more comfortable and manageable. The building's secure, with 24-hour monitored entrances, and you'll find caregivers around all day and night to help out if needed, plus registered nurses on staff during business hours and plenty of trained team members who greet everyone warmly, whether you need help often or just now and then. Folks benefit from personalized care plans-some may need help with things like bathing, dressing, medication, or housekeeping, while others like having laundry or meal service or having someone them to meals or events, which can all be arranged to fit each person's needs. Home Harbor Assisted Living also offers weekly shopping shuttles, free transportation, and surface or underground parking, so getting around is easy for both drivers and those who no longer like to drive, and English-speaking staff mean communication's clear and simple. Pets are allowed with some restrictions, so people with animal friends can often bring them along, and families and residents feel welcome to be involved as much as they wish, with a focus on community and friendships.

For fun and social life, residents can join in art, games, exercise, movies, shopping trips, outings to live music, or just spend time in the common rooms, party room, or computer center, and there's always hot coffee in the mornings. Three meals are served daily in an elegant dining room, and there's a beauty/barber shop onsite for haircuts and pampering, with a gym available for those who want to stay active. A library, chapel, gardens, and outdoor patios give everyone spaces to read, reflect, or visit, and regular devotional services happen for those who want them. The staff organizes activity programs that keep people as busy or as relaxed as they like, without pressure, including fitness programs and special social or educational events to help maintain skills and keep minds sharp. Home Harbor includes specialized care for Alzheimer's, so families who need extra memory support can find options here, and licensed medical folks like nurses, occupational and physical therapists, and a podiatrist visit, while on-site rehabilitation is provided by Motion Physical Therapy for those who need a little more help recovering or keeping mobile, although you won't find specialty services such as cardiology or nephrology on site, but optional visiting physician services can be arranged in your own apartment if that's helpful, and you can get blood, urine, or stool testing there too if the need arises.

Housekeeping, laundry, linen service, and meals are part of the support, with a choice of a la carte or bundle packages, and all apartments get regular maintenance. Residents enjoy indoor and outdoor common areas, secure entry day and night, strong wireless internet, and some pet accommodations, while the building's designed to balance comfort and privacy with social spaces and plenty of activities. Home Harbor Assisted Living wants seniors to stay independent as long as possible, but help's right there when it's needed, and the place, being state-licensed, keeps up with safety and quality standards, offering a safe environment close to shopping, medical centers, parks, cafés, and more, making it a good spot for those who like having daily needs met but still want to enjoy the independence and friendships that grow naturally in a senior living community.
