    Compassionate family care restored dad

I placed my dad here during a rough patch and, with hospice support, the compassionate, family-like staff nursed him back to health-caregivers stayed with him, meals were homestyle and often hand-fed, and the owners treated us with honesty and utmost respect. The cozy, clean home, excellent communication and affordable, one-on-one attention gave our family real peace of mind. I highly recommend this loving, professional team; a couple minor administrative things could be smoother, but the overall care was outstanding.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews portray Marie's Personal Care Home as a small, family-run residential facility with strongly polarized family impressions. Many families describe a caregiving staff that is compassionate, hands-on and willing to provide one-on-one attention; reviewers cite examples of individualized feeding and close support, effective coordination with hospice, and successful acute-care outcomes when medical issues arose. Several families emphasize a homelike environment, clear communication, and affordability as important strengths.

At the same time, there are consistent operational concerns that prospective families should evaluate. Multiple accounts indicate variability in caregiver training and staffing consistency, creating episodes of chaotic or delayed care. Reviewers also raise issues with the facility's capacity to manage memory-care needs such as sundowning; marketing that suggests specialized memory-care services may not align with observed practice. Management availability is uneven, with the owners typically described as engaged but not consistently reachable (notably on weekends), and there are recurring complaints about billing practices and extra fees for transportation and other services.

Dining and activities present mixed signals. Positive comments highlight homestyle cooking and attentive meal assistance in some cases, while other families report limited menu variety and simple options at times. The activity program is described by some as minimal or not sufficiently engaging. Facility condition and cleanliness are another point of divergence: some reviewers find the home clean and cozy, whereas others report sanitation and maintenance issues, including mold/mildew and localized odor concerns in certain areas. There are also safety considerations cited related to the home's proximity to a busy road and the presence of smoking near resident areas.

Overall, Marie's appears to offer warm, individualized caregiving in a small residential setting, which can work well for families seeking a cozy, affordable option with strong interpersonal attention. However, the facility also demonstrates operational limitations typical of small, family-run homes: inconsistent staff training and schedules, limited dementia-specific programming, variable environmental maintenance, and billing/fee practices that some families found problematic. Prospective families should tour the home, ask specifically about dementia-care protocols, staffing patterns and weekend management coverage, review the fee structure in writing, and inspect housekeeping and safety measures before making a placement decision.

    About Marie's Personal Care Home

Marie's Personal Care Home sits in Columbus, GA, as part of Purple Door, LLC, and it keeps things small and home-like, only holding up to six residents in a close setting where the staff knows everyone by name, and you really start to feel like family after a while. The place offers help with just about everything seniors might need, like assisted living, memory care for folks with Alzheimer's or dementia, adult day services if someone doesn't need to stay overnight, hospice care at the end of life, short-term respite stays for folks whose regular caregivers need a break, and even skilled nursing and Medicare-certified home health care. They'll help with things like bathing, dressing, using the bathroom, and they keep staff awake and on-site 24 hours a day to check in or help in an emergency, and they've got the right know-how to help with diabetes, incontinence, behavior changes, and all those other things that pop up as people age. Adults under 55 can live there if they need care, but mostly the place is for folks aged 55 or older. They always try to keep everyone busy and part of things, with group activities to help people make friends, plenty of outings and day trips, and special support for memory care residents to keep their minds active. Their kitchen puts out meals meant to taste good but also have the right balance of nutrition, and if someone has a birthday or a big family moment, there's a private dining room for celebrating. There's a cozy residential feel with both private and group spaces, like a TV lounge, fireplaces, outdoor patio gardens, and high-speed Wi-Fi and cable at no extra cost. The staff is trained, friendly, and keeps track of things like daily reminders for grooming and medication, and they work hard to treat everyone with respect and kindness, proven through community reviews and a Best of Senior Living Award. For getting around, residents have either parking or rides with the home's own transportation, at no extra charge for regular trips, and there's always someone ready to plan an outing or adventure if folks want to see more of the city. The average price for a 1-bedroom memory care room sits at about $2,500, and everything from activities to adult day services, beauty appointments, supervision, and help with transferring or using lifts is available in a setting that feels less like a facility and more like a familiar house where everyone's looked after.
