    Spacious patio home, attentive staff

I toured Elderwood Residences at Wheatfield for my mom and signed up before I left-she's happy in a spacious, very clean patio home with modern appliances and weekly housekeeping. Staff (Tammy, Nicole and Activity Director Donna) are warm, attentive and quick to help; they handle meals, medical appointments, transportation and engaging activities that have helped my mom make friends. Grounds are well kept, the food and social life are excellent, and I feel real peace of mind-very good overall with a little room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Elderwood Residences at Wheatfield presents as a well-maintained independent and assisted living community with consistently emphasized strengths in cleanliness, staffing, and social programming. Reviewers describe clean, nicely decorated apartments and common areas, regular housekeeping, and modern in-unit features such as full kitchens and private patios in certain unit types. Grounds and exterior landscaping are generally described as attractive and well kept.

Care and staff: Care quality and staff responsiveness are among the most frequently noted positives. Families and residents characterize staff as caring, attentive, and quick to assist; several accounts highlight specific administrators and activity staff by name. The community appears to provide practical support such as transportation to medical appointments, move-in assistance, and guidance on funding. Reviewers also note compassionate responsiveness during end-of-life situations and routine personal-care support for residents who need it.

Dining: Dining is presented as a strength for many residents. The community offers breakfast and dinner, multiple dining options, occasional room delivery, and themed events such as a weekly happy hour. Several reviewers describe the food as very good to excellent and compare it favorably with restaurants. That said, dining arrangements appear to differ by housing plan: some independent-living contracts do not include meals, and there are additional dining options across the street available for a separate fee. Prospective residents should verify which meal services are included in their chosen unit type and contract.

Activities and social life: The activity program is robust and varied. An on-site activity director organizes music, Tai Chi, bingo, pool, exercise classes, social trips (casinos, theaters, movies), car shows, and religious services. Residents report an active social calendar, opportunities for weekly hair appointments, and frequent entertainment. While the program itself is extensive, participation levels can vary by individual; families should consider how activity schedules and participation fit a prospective resident’s interests and mobility.

Facilities and amenities: The campus offers a range of on-site amenities including workout and exercise rooms, salon services, activity rooms, on-site laundry, and private patio homes with one- or two-bedroom layouts. Apartment features such as dishwashers and full kitchens are available in many units. The community also includes security and routine cleaning services for certain offerings. Some reviewers highlight that patio homes and private apartments are spacious and modern, though amenity access and included services may differ by unit type.

Management and notable patterns: Management and front-line staff receive frequent praise for responsiveness and personal attention, and several families describe a welcoming admission process. Common operational concerns include relatively high pricing and a long waitlist, which can affect move-in timing. Reviewers also indicate variability or lack of clarity about which services (particularly meals) are included under different contract levels; prospective residents should request clear, written details on service inclusions, pricing, and any extra fees. Overall, the facility is frequently recommended by families and former residents for its staff, cleanliness, dining, and activity offerings, but cost and contract clarity are areas to confirm during touring and contracting.
