    Compassionate attentive staff improved mom

I'm very satisfied with the compassionate, attentive staff and overall quality of care. Doctors, nurses, Director Luis and the owner check in regularly; my mom is happier and healthier after her heart attack and lung collapse, her bedsore is improving, the facility is clean, meals are much better than at her previous homes, and the team feels like family. Deep gratitude to the staff for their warmth, trusted care, and constant attention.

    Summary of reviews

Intercommunity Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center elicits a mixed but distinct pattern: many families emphasize the quality of hands-on care while also pointing to persistent facility and operational limitations. On the positive side, reviewers frequently highlight compassionate, attentive caregiving. Physicians and nursing staff are described as involved and responsive, and a number of families specifically noted clinical progress such as wound-healing and improved overall condition after transfer in. Staff engagement often extends to a familial rapport with residents; families reported that the team can be warm, supportive, and flexible with visitation, including accommodating video calls.

Dining and activities are areas of comparative strength for some residents. Several families described meals as an improvement over prior placements, and the facility receives praise for festive decor and a welcoming atmosphere during special events. These elements appear to contribute to residentsโ€™ emotional well-being and to perceptions of a positive social environment.

However, recurring operational concerns temper those strengths. The building and fixtures are frequently described as dated, with deferred maintenance and repair issues affecting the physical environment. Limited on-site parking and neighborhood access/safety were noted as logistical drawbacks for visitors and staff. Cleanliness and sanitation issues within certain resident areas were raised, indicating inconsistency in environmental services across the facility.

Staffing and communication represent another mixed area. While many reviewers praise individual caregivers and clinical staff, others describe staffing shortages that lead to inconsistent attention, missing or delayed responses to resident needs, and uneven communication between staff and families. These issues manifest operationally as variable resident experience depending on shift or unit. Management visibility is a relative strength: owners and directors were noted as present and engaged by some families, which appears to improve responsiveness in particular cases.

Notable patterns include a clear polarization of experiences: numerous families report positive clinical outcomes and strong relationships with staff, while a smaller set of very negative accounts describe serious adverse experiences and end-of-life care concerns. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facilityโ€™s evident strengths in caregiving and leadership presence against the practical limitations of an aging building, inconsistent housekeeping/maintenance, and variable staffing levels. A useful next step before placement would be an in-person tour that inspects room-level cleanliness and maintenance, a review of current staffing ratios and shift coverage, and a conversation with management about parking, neighborhood access, and contingency plans for clinical escalations.

About Intercommunity Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center

Intercommunity Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center sits in Norwalk, California, just minutes away from seven big hospitals, and offers a calm, clean atmosphere for senior elders. The nursing home here holds a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the average community rating is about 8 out of 10, which says folks who live here or visit find things pretty good overall. Seniors can choose from studio room layouts, and every room includes things like kitchens or kitchenettes, regular housekeeping, safety features for easier movement, and maintenance support. Residents have access to washers, dryers, and cable TV, and there are added safety features throughout, like handicap accessible spaces and sprinkler systems.

The community offers a wide range of care that covers independent living, assisted living, nursing home care, memory care for those with dementia or Alzheimer's, and home care services. Skilled nurses, therapists, and caregivers provide services like wound care, medication help, podiatry, and occupational therapy. Their dedicated rehabilitation program includes physical, occupational, and speech therapies, and they also provide sub-acute care for those needing extra support after a hospital stay. Residents can get help with daily tasks, such as dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, and other personal care needs.

Amenities include fitness centers, a salon and barbershop, arts and crafts, and various health and wellness programs. There are social activities, education classes, and even special treats like a Sundae Bar and beautiful waterfalls out on the patios, where families can spend time together. Community spaces have activity rooms, dining rooms, wifi, guest parking, and game rooms for socializing. Meals and dining services are available, with different options for where to eat, and transportation is offered for appointments and outings. The entrance is welcoming, and there's often a cute window painting-like a St. Patrick's Day design-by the receptionist to greet everyone.

Staff focus on being nurturing, respectful, and comforting, aiming to make residents feel secure, cared-for, and part of a team that works together for their well-being. The facility stays free of odors and works hard to provide a healthy, collaborative environment that supports each person's healthcare and daily life. Intercommunity Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center puts an emphasis on teamwork, compassion, and support, with a goal to help residents live as well and as safely as possible.
