    Converted inn feels like home

I live in a converted inn with just 18 rooms and it truly feels homey. The staff are very friendly and help with medications, meals, housekeeping and laundry. My room has its own toilet, is close to the dining room and I was able to decorate it; there's a cozy common living room, dining room, and an accessible shower/toilet. The food is perfect and activities like singing and bingo with the priest and local schoolchildren keep things lively - I'm very comfortable and would recommend it.

    About Morning Star Retirement Home

Morning Star Retirement Home sits in a Victorian house that used to be an inn, giving the place a warm, home-like feel, with just 18 private rooms, all with attached bathrooms, and it really feels manageable, because you can see the staff know the people living there, and staff are available around the clock for help with things like bathing, dressing, getting around, or maybe reminders for medication which the state-certified staff can help with, plus there's a nurse on staff and a doctor on call if something changes. You'll find the place well set up for safety and ease, since all rooms are wheelchair accessible and there are big open spaces like a front wraparound porch where folks like to sit and talk, along with outdoor sitting areas, and gardens. The inside has a library, media room, and common dining area where everyone can share three home-cooked meals a day-although you can eat in your room if you want privacy-and snacks are always around, with the on-site staff doing all the cooking. Laundry, linen, and housekeeping are included, and there's even a beauty and barber area.

Residents can bring their pets, though there are some rules about that, and there are also some policies about smoking in private and public areas inside. The home welcomes both men and women, with the option for women-only, and there's a minimum age to move in. For social life, Morning Star plans regular games, movie nights, visiting speakers, artists, and off-site trips into town for places like the library, post office, and local shops, since everything is within walking distance. Spiritual needs are met through offsite devotional meetings, and all this happens in a place devoted to kindness, as the mission aims to honor God and value seniors. Staff are well trained to help with diabetic care, personal hygiene, and the other small needs that come up when you're aging but still looking for some independence. For medical and behavior health support, the facility's digital platform gives residents and their families access to tools like a My Account Dashboard, emergency card, suicide prevention plan, and care coordination card. Residents can also use a symptom checker and find behavioral health recovery resources, plus connect to health programs supported by state and federal funding, including information about hospitals, nursing homes, and local resources for opioid support or advocacy. Morning Star offers respite care for short stays, as well as assisted living, memory care, independent living, and hospice services, plus physical and occupational therapy if needed, and staff coordinate with each person's own physician. Parking and complimentary transportation help with getting out for errands or doctor's appointments, and the house, licensed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health, really supports a sense of togetherness with a schedule full of social, educational, and wellness-focused activities, plus access to a health library. The feeling here is peaceful, rooted in a community culture that tries to help people nurture their best selves, and the leadership wants everyone to feel both supported and at home during this time of life.
