    Comfortable, safe community with activities

I moved my mother here and have been pleased with the caring, attentive staff, clean well-kept rooms, and the range of activities that keep her engaged. Meals are good and administrators respond promptly to questions. Overall it's a comfortable, safe community I would recommend.

    About The Mercy Community

The Mercy Community sits on a large campus at 2021 Albany Avenue in West Hartford, Connecticut, and has been helping older adults since 1946, offering different types of care including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care for people with dementia or Alzheimer's, and short- and long-term rehabilitation, all provided through programs like The McAuley and Saint Mary Home. Residents will find both studio and two-bedroom apartments and several common areas like a dining room, lounges, activity and game rooms, fitness center, and a full-service salon and spa, all in a mid-rise building, with washers and dryers, cable TV, and Wi-Fi available, and plenty of outdoor and indoor spaces to enjoy, since the grounds stretch across 26 to 43 acres with easy access to local hospitals, shopping, pharmacies, and major highways like I-84 and I-91. There's a big focus on individual care, so anyone with memory issues, need for mobility help, special diets, or long-term chronic needs gets their own plan, and the staff includes nurses, occupational therapists, aides, and personal care assistants around the clock, so people can get help with bathing, medication, daily activities, and even wound or podiatry care, with attention to both safety and privacy. Meals are prepared and served in different dining settings, housekeeping and maintenance happen regularly, transportation is available, and the community offers meal and laundry help, plus pets are allowed. There's also a calendar of educational, social, religious, health, and arts programs, along with fitness activities and shuttle service, so people can choose what they want to do, or take part in workshops and cultural events, and the faith-based mission sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy means that the community puts a real emphasis on dignity and compassionate service, which is nice for folks who want spiritual support alongside their healthcare. Memory care here has its own staff, higher staffing ratios, secured areas, special activities, and extra safety features like sprinklers, and the community gives tours and has ways for new families to hear from folks who already live there. The Mercy Community coordinates benefits like Medicare, Medicaid, and long-term care insurance, and helps residents or their families with billing, questions about programs, and waiting list info. Saint Mary Home is part of the campus, offering 256 beds including skilled nursing and a mix of long- and short-term care, with about 64 beds open as of June 2025, and The McAuley offers 224 apartments mainly for independent and assisted living, so people can stay in one place even as their needs change, which some call a life plan community. The place is known for its strong amenities, helpful staff, and simple, clear move-in process, and has been recognized locally for its service, keeping a community score that reflects what people think of the care and environment, and there's always a receptionist or concierge on duty both day and night if anyone needs help.
