    Comfortable life-care community caring staff

I'm very pleased with my move to Freedom Square - the food is excellent, the staff treat me like family, and there are countless activities (exercise classes, dance, trips) to keep me busy. The campus is beautiful and convenient to shopping and beaches, and the life-care continuity gives me real peace of mind. Overall a comfortable, well-run community where I feel valued and at home.

    Summary of reviews

Freedom Square presents as a large, amenity-rich continuing care community with many strengths. The campus, grounds and apartments are frequently described as attractive and well maintained; residents and families cite a range of amenities including an indoor pool, fitness spaces, salon, bistro, library, transportation services, and on-site rehabilitation. The campus model that provides independent living through memory care and skilled nursing on the same property is a recurring advantage for families seeking continuity of care. Admissions, move-in coordination, and several named staff members receive consistent praise for thoughtful transition support and ongoing family communication.

Staffing and direct care are areas of mixed experience. A substantial number of accounts highlight compassionate, attentive staff and successful rehab outcomes; several employees are singled out by name for exemplary service. At the same time, other accounts describe variability in clinical performance between units: staffing shortages, turnover, delayed response to call systems, and concerns about medication administration timing. Memory care and skilled nursing areas receive proportionally more criticism, with described gaps in personal-care schedules and timeliness of clinical attention. These accounts suggest that quality may depend heavily on the specific unit and current staffing levels.

Dining and housekeeping show similar inconsistency. Many reviewers praise chef-prepared meals, varied menus, and a fine-dining atmosphere; others report cold plates, missing meal items, or a noticeable drop in food quality in particular phases. Weekly housekeeping and laundry are included and valued by many residents, but there are also reports of incomplete room preparation, delayed laundry, and housekeeping follow-through that vary by unit or time period. Cleanliness and odor concerns in certain common areas or wings are raised repeatedly enough to be a practical consideration during a tour.

Management and operations elicit both praise and concern. Several reviewers commend proactive managers and responsive admissions staff, while other accounts cite lapses in communication, billing or reimbursement delays, and inconsistent follow-through from administrative teams. Some reviewers referenced organizational changes (ownership/management transition) that they felt coincided with declines in service consistency. Maintenance and equipment reliability (laundry machines, call systems, bedroom furnishings) are mentioned as operational weaknesses in some reports.

Notable patterns across the reviews are the pronounced variability by unit/phase and the critical role individual staff members play in families' perceptions. Positive experiences cluster around units with stable staffing, engaged activities teams, and hands-on managers; negative experiences concentrate in areas with high turnover, limited overnight coverage, and weaker housekeeping. A small number of serious allegations concerning infection control and clinical incidents appear in the feedback; these are not uniform across the dataset but merit careful follow-up.

For prospective residents and family members: visit multiple care areas at different times of day, ask for current staffing ratios and turnover statistics for the specific unit you are considering, observe a meal service in the unit of interest, and review the facility's protocols for medication administration, incontinence care, infection control, and family communication. Ask for references from recent residents or families who experienced a transition (e.g., rehab to assisted living) to gauge consistency. Overall, Freedom Square offers substantial amenities and many instances of high-quality care, but the variability across units and periods suggests due diligence is important to match an individual’s needs with the facility’s current operational strengths and limitations.

    About Freedom Square of Seminole

Freedom Square of Seminole sits on 15 acres set up like a quaint town square, with brick streets, palm trees, walking paths, bridges, ponds, and even a private lake, and you see all sorts of animal companions around since they're pet-friendly. Residents can pick from studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, some with balconies that look out over the city, gardens, or sunsets, and every apartment has a private bathroom, wheelchair accessible showers, and grab bars, with extra touches like emergency pull cords, in-home emergency response systems, and expanded cable and Wi-Fi included. They've got pool and hot tub access indoors, a fitness center, art and craft studios, a library, game rooms, and a salon and barbershop, plus there are outdoor gardens, shaded walking paths, and plenty of common spaces inside and out for people to meet or relax. When it comes to dining, you get a range of choices like an elegant dining room, a café/bistro, a pub, and a private family room for gatherings, with meal options that cover anytime dining, room service, chef-prepared restaurant-style menus, and special diets including vegan, low-sodium, organic, gluten-free, and low or no sugar. Residents get weekly housekeeping, flat linen service, lawn care, and maintenance, and there's a concierge service for help with daily needs or scheduling transportation to doctor appointments, errands, or activities.

Freedom Square is a Life Plan Community, so people can move easily between independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing if their needs change. They've set up their campus with separate specialized areas, like a memory care building built to reduce confusion and help prevent wandering, using technology like bracelets and a computerized alert system to help staff keep residents safe. Staff are there 24/7 with RNs and LPNs on site, a nurse always on staff, and a doctor on call, and the skilled nursing center has 236 beds, with extra suites for rehab and both private and shared rooms in assisted living. They can handle a range of care, so they support things like simple standby, transfers using lifts, and help with more challenging behaviors, and they'll even work with residents who wander or have dementia or Alzheimer's, all backed by behavioral care programs. The staff-to-resident ratio is higher than state rules require, and they run personal care assessments and update care plans as needs change, so help with tasks like bathing, dressing, medication reminders, and daily checks are covered. Physical, occupational, and speech therapists, a visiting nurse, podiatrist, and dentist stop by regularly, and a wellness center offers fitness programs like yoga and other activities focused on staying active and involved.

There's always something going on, whether it's educational classes, arts and crafts, games, community service projects, or offsite trips, and there's a full event calendar with things like lectures, entertainment, and special gatherings for new residents. People who live there get to keep their independence with simple, maintenance-free living and a flexible program if they want to reduce costs upfront, plus there are life care contracts for predictable pricing and financial benefits like optional entrance fee refundability and some potential tax deductions. The community also offers devotional services, mail and postal help, visiting professionals, business centers with computers, and a general store on campus. Freedom Square has won awards, including a deficiency-free survey and has gotten recognition as a top community by national organizations. The grounds, with their gardens, ponds, and wide walkways, give everyone plenty of fresh air and quiet spaces, and the whole property is secured with 24-hour staff, security, and emergency help systems in place. It's built to make aging in place easy and give seniors peace of mind while still letting them enjoy a sense of community and a variety of activities every day.
