    Professional, caring staff; excellent amenities

I toured and chose this community for my mom and I'm very pleased overall - the staff are professional, caring and attentive, medication and safety practices are excellent, meals are delicious, the building is clean and home-like, and activities and outings keep residents engaged. Beautiful grounds, spacious apartments, fast maintenance and approachable management make it one of the best options in Savannah and north Georgia; I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Sunabella Senior Living is frequently described as a well-maintained, garden-oriented community with condo-style independent living units and a home-like, non-institutional feel. Multiple reviewers praised the grounds, spacious apartments, clean common areas and a layout that many find comfortable and private. The facility’s physical environment and landscaping are consistently cited as strengths, and maintenance response times are often characterized as prompt.

Care quality draws a generally positive assessment from many families: reviewers cite attentive monitoring, safety-oriented adjustments, and strong medication administration practices. Several accounts highlight compassionate caregiving and staff who go above and beyond to support residents’ day-to-day needs. At the same time, there are patterns indicating variability in staff continuity; frequent personnel changes have been described as disruptive to relationships and institutional memory.

Staff and management impressions are mixed but contain clear positives. Some reviewers described the manager and clinical leadership as professional, approachable, and effective at addressing concerns. Others noted inconsistent customer-service experiences, including abrupt or unfriendly communications at points of contact. These contrasts suggest that individual staff conduct and team stability significantly influence family impressions.

Dining and activities are two areas with divergent feedback. Many residents appreciate the programming — regular events, weekly outings, lunches and shopping trips were called out as meaningful engagement opportunities. Conversely, dining quality appears inconsistent: several reviewers praised the food as excellent, while others described particular meals as unsatisfactory and cited kitchen-staff attitude concerns. Activity availability also varies by location within the campus: the facility’s two-building configuration can limit participation for residents who are physically separated from central programming.

The community culture is another notable pattern. While many families describe a warm, family-like atmosphere, reviewers also described social cliques and political tensions among residents that can affect inclusion. Prospective residents should consider fit with the existing resident community as part of their evaluation.

Practical takeaways for families touring Sunabella: confirm current staffing stability and turnover trends, sample meals at typical dining times, review the activity calendar and ask how programming is delivered across both buildings, inspect outdoor and private space available for the specific unit under consideration, and meet clinical leadership to discuss medication administration and safety-monitoring protocols. Overall, the facility offers several strong attributes in environment, care processes, and activity programming, but visitor impressions are sensitive to staffing continuity, dining consistency, and community fit.

    About Sunabella Senior Living

Sunabella Senior Living sits in Savannah, Georgia, and you'll find it within five miles of major hospitals like St. Joseph's, Candler, and Memorial Health University Medical Center, which families appreciate if health needs come up. The community runs both Sunabella Senior Living and Sunabella at Savannah Memory Care, covering independent living, assisted living, and memory care. Residents live in either studio apartments or companion suites, with some rooms offering kitchenettes or full-size kitchens like The Mulberry Residence, The Royal Oaks, and Regency Residence, and these all come with private bathrooms, giving a sense of home and privacy.

Sunabella provides three meals a day, snacks, and can make special meals for dietary needs like diabetic or low-salt diets, and there's always communal dining where folks have the chance to visit with others. The staff, including dedicated memory care caregivers, helps with daily activities like bathing, dressing, medication reminders, and grooming, with visiting physicians and hospice care from third-party providers for those who need extra medical attention. There's skilled nursing in-house, a part-time nurse, and services like occupational, physical, and speech therapy, plus dental and podiatry visits. You'll see transportation services for shopping, appointments, and outings, and payments are accepted with credit cards or checks, with insurance and help for those selling a home, and a one-time $500 community fee for independent and assisted living.

The grounds offer outdoor walking areas, garden spaces, and patios, so residents can enjoy fresh air or gardening if they want, and pets are allowed with some restrictions, but there are also amenities to help pet owners out. Inside, there's a spot for arts and crafts, a book club, gardening groups, and both yoga and chair yoga classes, with fitness activities such as armchair aerobics and outdoor strolls to encourage movement. Residents can join in on game nights, literary activities, seasonal parties, holiday gatherings, and birthdays, which help keep spirits up and friendships going strong, and there's a focus on activities that support creativity, mental stimulation, and social involvement.

The family-owned and operated model has served the community for over 30 years, providing a welcoming atmosphere where families are encouraged to visit and see daily life firsthand. Facilities have high-speed Wi-Fi, are handicap accessible, and the design, especially in memory care, aims to reduce confusion and keep residents safe from wandering. You'll see regular housekeeping, personal laundry and linen services, in-house salon or barber services, and there are always staff available if a resident needs help. The community offers in-house religious services and helps veterans with VA aid assistance.

Sunabella Senior Living aims to provide a comfortable, supportive environment with individual care, a strong sense of family, and activities that encourage both mental and physical well-being. The experienced caregivers focus on giving each resident dignity and respect, especially those dealing with memory loss, and there's always a sense that the staff knows residents well and tries to make each day feel like home for everyone.
