    Warm professional staff excellent amenities

I moved my father here and am very pleased. Management and staff are warm, professional, and know residents by name; maintenance is responsive and the building is immaculate and secure. The one-bedroom is comfortable and accessible with on-site laundry, exercise room, physical therapy nearby, a lovely dining room and patio. Plenty of resident-driven activities (bingo, book club, Sit & Be Fit), friendly neighbors, convenient downtown location, and good value - I'd recommend it for independent seniors.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment from reviewers is strongly positive: Liberty Village Senior Apartments is repeatedly described as clean, safe, affordable, and staffed by caring and responsive employees. Most reviewers emphasize the community’s strong maintenance response, spotless apartments and common areas, and knowing staff who learn residents’ names and act kindly. Many residents or family members report that their loved ones are happy, have made friends, and are engaged with the community. Several comments specifically call out value for money and a smoother-than-expected move-in experience.

Staff and care quality: Reviews consistently praise the staff — managers, maintenance, dining and front-desk personnel — for being helpful, friendly and responsive. There are numerous reports of maintenance issues being handled promptly, a 24-hour maintenance line, and staff members who help residents feel supported. The dominant theme is independent living with an attentive team rather than medical or nursing care: reviewers repeatedly note that Liberty Village is an independent-living community and not a full care facility, and that medical services and transportation are generally not included. While most interactions with staff are described as warm and professional, a small number of reviewers reported feeling that some staff acted as if they were doing the resident a favor, and there are occasional comments about limited staff involvement in organizing activities.

Facilities and apartments: The physical plant is described as attractive and well-kept overall. Reviewers cite clean hallways, remodeled lower floors, a bright dining room, a third-floor lounge, an outside patio, and on-site laundry. Apartments themselves are described as a good size for seniors, often one-bedroom layouts with living room and kitchen, handicap-accessible bathrooms, guardrails in tubs, lower cabinets, and laminate or freshly cleaned carpeting. Security is highlighted (locked community, secure entry) as is convenient off-street parking and snow removal. A few reviews mention that parts of the facility feel a little dated, though this is balanced by praise for recent remodels and upkeep.

Dining and food services: Dining receives mixed-but-leaning-positive feedback. Many reviewers appreciated the dining room’s appearance and the taste of meals that are offered — with some calling dinners “delicious.” The community reliably offers continental breakfasts on multiple mornings each week (commonly Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays), though several reviewers note that breakfast service was reduced from pre-COVID levels (from five days to three). Meals beyond breakfast are limited: some mention dinner service twice weekly, the option to buy meals from visiting external restaurants (often at an extra cost, e.g., $10), or that residents may cook for themselves. Several people pointed out that Liberty Village is not a full-meal senior dining facility (no four-meal service), and that meals are often an add-on rather than fully included in rent.

Activities and social life: Reviewers repeatedly note a lively social calendar with resident-driven programs: bingo, book club, game nights, Bible study, Sit and Be Fit classes, occasional entertainment, and seasonal events (e.g., St. Patrick’s Day). The community is described as friendly with many residents forming friendships quickly. At the same time, some reviewers indicated that the activity schedule is very much resident-led and that staff do not always organize events extensively. A few residents wished for a larger community or more varied institutional programming, but for many the current level of activities is sufficient and enjoyable.

Accessibility, medical services and nearby amenities: Strengths include on-site physical therapy, visiting nurses (for blood draws in some accounts), a foot and ankle clinic next door, and apartment accessibility features. Reviewers also value the location: walkable to downtown Elmhurst, close to restaurants, quick shopping and expressways. The tradeoff is that Liberty Village does not provide comprehensive medical or transportation services; these must be arranged externally or through visiting providers.

Management, pricing, and notable concerns: Many reviews praise management as fair, kind and helpful, noting a smooth move-in process in several cases. However, there are a number of recurring administrative concerns: a waiting list and a non-refundable deposit were mentioned; one or more reviewers raised issues about pricing transparency and an “extra monthly fee” not being disclosed clearly. The stated price range in reviews was roughly $850–$950, with a cited deposit around $1,005 in one summary; prospective residents should confirm current rates and fee policies directly. A few negative comments relate to limited transportation, the community’s small size (some desire a larger environment), and absence of amenities like a pool or large recreation room.

Conclusion: Liberty Village Senior Apartments appears to deliver a consistently positive independent-living experience for seniors who need a clean, safe, social, and affordable living option with responsive staff and practical accessibility features. It is best suited for residents who are largely independent, value community and activities, and do not require on-site medical or full-care services. Prospective residents and families should confirm current meal plans, fee disclosures (including deposit and any extra monthly charges), availability or waiting list status, and transportation options before deciding. Overall recommendations in the reviews are high: many families would recommend the community, citing a happy resident experience and strong value relative to cost.

    About Liberty Village Senior Apartments

Liberty Village Senior Apartments sits at 415 N York St, right in downtown Elmhurst, Illinois, and spans three stories with 104 units in a brownstone building shaded by trees, having been open since 1999, giving it plenty of time to settle into the community. The apartments serve seniors aged 55 and up and come in studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom setups, usually with one bathroom and designed layouts that give natural light, vinyl wood floors, full kitchens, and generous closets, plus some units have spacious balconies so folks can sit outside and enjoy fresh air. The whole place strives to be affordable, especially for people with limited incomes, with units being smoke-free and offering safety grab bars along with 24/7 after-hours phone service, security cameras, and a door entry system to help keep things safe and simple. Residents can do their laundry on-site and there's assigned outdoor parking for a small monthly fee, or optional rides through the Ride DuPage transportation system if someone doesn't drive, and plenty of visitor parking too. For shared spaces, there's a computer and business area, a library on the first floor, a dining room where weekly continental breakfast is offered, a lounge and TV center upstairs, a game room, and an outdoor patio with furniture and a BBQ, plus senior-friendly bathrooms in all the main areas. Seniors can join activities like movie nights, bingo, happy hours, book clubs, exercise, and holiday or birthday parties, with staff arranging these optional community events, so there are ways to stay social and occupied. The property allows pets under certain guidelines, and there's even extra amenities like beauty and barber services, a trolley service, and organized group outings. For those who need more help, Liberty Village Senior Apartments handles a wide range of care and support, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, long-term nursing, home care, adult day services, and hospice, with nurses and doctors on staff or on call, and therapy options in physical, occupational, and speech fields, along with podiatry and home health services, right within the community or in apartments. They focus on helping everyone age in place, offering help with daily activities, and making sure needs are met respectfully and with kindness. The common areas are elegantly decorated and designed to make socializing easy, while the building stays accessible for people who use wheelchairs. Residents often feel satisfied here, reflected in good reviews and previous awards for service and family satisfaction. Liberty Village Senior Apartments sits close to a food mart, restaurants, and public amenities, and people can enjoy the nearby history museum, public library, and plenty of parks or recreation spots around Elmhurst. The grounds and nearby spaces also feature several monuments-including the World War I Elmhurst Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam War memorial, a sesquicentennial clock, Millennium Fountain, Bicentennial Fountain, and the "Elmhurst Remembers" memorial-so there's plenty of history around to appreciate, and seniors in the community often take advantage of the arts, performances, festivals, and other events through connections with the Elmhurst Centre for Performing Arts, GreenMan Theatre Troupe, The York Theatre, and the local symphony as part of staying involved and engaged. The facility puts effort into making sure there's always group activities or outings, building friendships, and supporting an active lifestyle in a setting that prioritizes independence, safety, and affordable options for older adults.
