    Moved mom, very pleased here

I moved my mom here and we're very pleased - the campus is clean, bright, and packed with daily activities (boxing, swimming, exercise classes) led by a wonderful activities director. Staff are attentive and helpful, meals are good, and on-site amenities (beauty shop, library, wellness center, chapel, laundry and transportation) plus 24/7 RN coverage and multiple levels of care give us peace of mind. It's a friendly, well-run community that has been great for our family.

    Summary of reviews

Friends Fellowship Community is described by families and residents as a modern, well-appointed campus with an extensive amenity set and an active lifestyle emphasis. Positive impressions center on a clean environment, restaurant-style dining, plentiful on-site offerings (salon/barber, library, wellness center, craft and workshop spaces, and spiritual services), and structured programming that includes seasonal events and daily activities. The community also provides a clear care continuum—independent living through nursing care—with 24/7 RN availability and onsite nursing units that reviewers characterized as clean and well-staffed at times.

Staff interactions are frequently highlighted as a strength: many accounts describe helpful, responsive employees who assist with transportation, housekeeping, and daily needs. Transportation services and driver availability for appointments are repeatedly noted as convenient, and bundled services such as laundry and periodic housekeeping contribute to a turnkey living experience. Residents and families appreciate the housing flexibility offered (life-lease options, customizable apartments) and the sense of security from controlled campus access.

Dining and activity offerings are important draws, but reviewers present a mixed picture. Several readers praised the overall quality and presentation of meals, but others raised concerns about menu variety, meal temperature, and occasional delays tied to short-staffing in dining services. Activity programming is robust—fitness classes, swimming, and social programming receive positive mentions—though a subset of comments indicated variability in activity availability and a perception that programming intensity can fluctuate over time or under staffing constraints.

Operational patterns to note for prospective residents and families include the community's cost structure and staffing consistency. Multiple comments emphasize that the community is relatively expensive and operates primarily on a private-pay basis, which may limit affordability for some households. Staffing challenges, including turnover and episodic short staffing, were associated with slower dining service and intermittent concerns about staff communication style. There were also references to isolated maintenance issues and the need for improved internet/cellular connectivity in parts of the campus; in several cases management committed to repairs or upgrades.

Overall, Friends Fellowship Community appears well suited to older adults seeking a full-service, amenity-rich campus with access to higher levels of care and an active social environment. Prospective residents should weigh the benefits of the extensive services and active programming against the higher cost and the potential for variability in staffing, dining timeliness, and technical infrastructure. An in-person visit that includes a tour of specific apartment types, a sample meal, and discussion of maintenance and connectivity plans would help families assess fit and operational reliability for their particular needs.

    About Friends Fellowship Community

Friends Fellowship Community sits on a big, open campus at 2030 Chester Blvd in Richmond, Indiana, and folks have known it since 1975 for offering several types of senior living options, so you'll find independent living, assisted living, memory care, and a Health Care Center all grouped in one place, which is pretty useful for people hoping to age in place and not have to move again and again. The grounds have walking paths, flowers, big trees, and a pond, so residents can stroll outside or find a peaceful spot to see the grass and watch the birds, which is nice for those who enjoy nature and fresh air. Around here, everything's designed to help seniors live healthy and active lives, with staff focused on making the days purposeful and safe, rather than rushing anybody or making them feel less at home.

Inside, residents pick from independent homes or apartments with easy access to meals, activities, and organized events, and the dining stays focused on health and variety, with kosher, vegetarian, and special diets like gluten-free or low sodium, plus both restaurant-style and private dining rooms, so folks can find food they like and gather with friends if they want. Everyone living here has access to amenities like exercise facilities, games, beauty shop services, devotional and social activities, and both indoor and outdoor areas to relax in, with a full-time activities director organizing stretching, Tai Chi, yoga, art, brain games, and even trips and intergenerational programs that try to keep the mind and body moving.

Friends Fellowship Community isn't just about having a nice place to live, though, because services are set up for folks who need extra help, too, whether that's with bathing, dressing, medication, or managing health conditions, thanks to a nurse on staff and a doctor on call, plus trained aides on duty all through the day and night. In memory care, there's a special section built just for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, and it's secured so residents don't wander away, with technology like bracelets to help with safety; staff also handle behavioral needs, including those who have trouble with aggression or confusion. For everyone, the environment's made to be friendly and supportive, with personalized care plans, and services like standby help or mechanical lifts for transfers when needed, which comes in handy for folks who might have trouble getting around on their own.

For fees, there's an entry buy-in around $33,000, respite care at $342, and memory care rates for a semi-private room near $8,250 per month. Transportation and parking are available, and you'll see both scheduled offsite excursions and support for medical appointments or errands, which is handy for people who want to keep routines active and feel independent. Folks here can attend regular activities, enjoy open spaces, and join in community efforts or educational programs, with groups like the "School Is Cool" program and plenty of committee and event options that keep the place lively. With more than 50 years of experience, Friends Fellowship Community keeps adjusting its services to fit what seniors need, focusing on keeping everyone comfortable, respected, and engaged, no matter what level of care they're looking for.
