    Compassionate staff, inconsistent services overall

I'm glad we chose this community - the staff are genuinely kind, respectful and attentive, leadership is easy to reach, and the facility feels clean and homey; my loved one improved and enjoyed activities. Meals and outing options can be limited and inconsistent, and food quality varies. I saw periodic disorganization, weekend/night understaffing and uneven care for higher needs, plus occasional cleanliness/supervision issues. Costs feel high given those inconsistencies, but overall the compassionate staff and welcoming environment make this a recommendable choice with reservations.

    About Brookdale Leawood State Line

Brookdale Leawood State Line sits in a quiet neighborhood and provides several types of care all on one campus, so people don't have to move as their needs change, and folks can choose independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or even at-home care, and they seem to have a strong focus on memory care with two programs, including Clare Bridge for residents with Alzheimer's or dementia, and staff use bracelets and security features to help keep people safe, which makes a difference for those who may wander or need a little extra support. The community has 40 residential health care beds and offers both private and semi-private suites, all with kitchenettes, emergency call systems, wall-to-wall carpeting, cable or satellite TV, and private bathrooms, and the units all have access to grocery delivery, shopping help, mail assistance, and transportation, so residents don't need to worry about those errands as much.

Nursing staff, including registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, stay on duty 24/7, and professional caregivers provide help with daily tasks like dressing, bathing, dining, or standing up, and the staff can also give medication and use mechanical lifts if someone can't walk on their own. People who need more support can get skilled nursing services, and doctors along with visiting specialists like podiatrists, dentists, physical, occupational, and speech therapists come by. The kitchen staff can prepare special meals for diabetics, folks on low fat, low salt, renal-specific diets, or even kosher and vegetarian options, and there's always plenty of dining space.

All residents get a personalized care plan, and if someone has pets, cats and dogs are welcome and there's help with pet care. Social life stays lively with activities scheduled from breakfast until evening, including arts and crafts, gardening clubs, brain fitness games, music, devotional services, outings, and intergenerational programs with school visitors sometimes stopping by. The community has wide, circular hallways, two enclosed courtyards, a sunroom, library, and private dining rooms, so people have spaces to relax, read, or visit with loved ones. Housekeeping, laundry, salon, and barber services happen on site, and wheelchair-accessible showers and full tubs are available in units. If someone needs hospice or respite stays, those supports are included as well. Staff speak English and help with things like emails or using computers, and they've got plenty of activities, both in and out of the building, often posted on the Brookdale Blogs or shared by word of mouth among the community.

The property stays secure, and memory care and assisted living sit in purpose-built areas for easy navigation, with simple wayfinding cues for folks who get confused. Brookdale Leawood State Line runs under license N046052 and accepts both men and women. Many services, like therapy or devotional gatherings, are offered right on the grounds. Rooms can be studios, one-bedrooms, or shared, and pricing depends on the choice. Staff administer medications and keep up with health and wellness programs, and the emphasis always stays on each person's abilities and preferences, so dignity and comfort don't get lost as care needs change.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale Leawood State Line is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
