    Warm staff, clean homelike environment

I toured this community and was very pleased. Staff were warm, attentive and knew residents by name; management and the activities director were personable and proactive. The facility felt clean and homey with a nice courtyard and secure entry, and memory care offered individualized plans with strong staff teamwork. Meals, snacks and activities impressed me, and it's pet-friendly - I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Trustwell Living of Overland Park presents as a small-to-medium sized assisted living and memory-care community with several clear strengths in person-centered care and social programming. Families and visitors commonly cite compassionate, attentive staff and a home-like, family atmosphere; multiple reviews single out the community-relations/admissions team for being responsive and helpful during transition. The community has invested in renovations and refreshed common-area furniture, and many note long-tenured employees and on-site clinical resources (physical therapy, podiatry, hair salon), which support continuity of care.

Programming and engagement are consistent positive themes. The activities department is frequently described as energetic and creative, offering daily programming, outings, concerts, and field trips that many residents appear to enjoy. Memory-care supports and individualized plans are available, and reviewers praised staff familiarity with resident preferences. Dining receives mixed but generally favorable comments: several families described generous portions, chef-provided snacks, and accommodating kitchen staff for special diets, though kitchen-staffing variability is also noted.

The physical environment mixes recently updated spaces with some older rooms and an H-shaped layout. Accessible features such as large showers with benches, hardwood floors, push-button call systems, and secured outdoor spaces are repeatedly highlighted. Apartment types include studios and larger one-bedroom units; however, availability can be limited and private-room options are fewer. Location advantages include nearby restaurants, shopping, and walking trails.

Notable patterns of concern relate to operational consistency. Several reviewers described intermittent staffing shortfalls—particularly on weekends—that coincide with slower response times, reduced activity intensity, or missed personal-care tasks like showers and laundry readiness. Cleanliness and sanitation standards are uneven across reports, with periodic odor and housekeeping issues referenced as facility-level sanitation concerns. Communication and business-practice gaps appear as recurring themes: families described billing and refund delays, occasional difficulty reaching leadership, and variable follow-through during transitions. A few reviewers raised clinical coordination issues, including medication-administration delays, which suggest opportunities to strengthen nursing workflows and supervision.

In summary, Trustwell Living of Overland Park offers a well-regarded resident experience in many areas: warm staff culture, strong activity programming, on-site therapy services, and renovated communal spaces. Prospective families should weigh these strengths against variability in staffing, housekeeping consistency, kitchen staffing, and administrative processes. For residents who prioritize active programming, personalized memory care, and a smaller, family-like environment, the community may be a good fit; families who require consistently high levels of clinical responsiveness or who are especially sensitive to weekend coverage and room availability may wish to confirm staffing patterns, cleanliness protocols, and pricing details before deciding.

About Trustwell Living of Overland Park

Trustwell Living of Overland Park sits on Barkley Street in Overland Park, Kansas, and is an apartment community where seniors can live with support when they need it and alone when they don't, and the place offers several options like independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing care for those with more needs. The community has private rooms in Memory Care, each with beds, sitting areas, desks, dressers, and windows for natural light, and you'll find private bathrooms and kitchenettes in the apartments, so residents have some independence while help is nearby if needed, and elevator access makes it easier for people who may not want to use stairs. Down the hall, there are shared spaces like a sitting room with plush seating, elegant decor, a fireplace, and a TV that sometimes plays "The Wizard of Oz," and for those that like to get outside, there's a patio with seating, bright mums, and a gazebo where people can spend time outdoors, and there's a courtyard too. The building has high-speed Wi-Fi and is handicap accessible, and pets are welcome to join their owners. Residents eat in restaurant-style dining rooms with meal choices like French toast, fried eggs, sandwiches, grits, rolls, and desserts, and there's a beauty barber and a lounge. Trustwell Living has a strong focus on family-like care, getting to know people's needs and making sure care plans fit each person; there's help available for daily tasks like dressing, bathing, and taking medication, and the staff helps with housekeeping, laundry, and transportation. There's an emergency call system in each apartment for peace of mind. The activity calendar is full, with four or more planned things to do every day like exercise classes, blackjack games, ice cream socials, and trivia tournaments, along with regular outings. Memory care is set up for adults with Alzheimer's and dementia and includes features to make it safer, such as layouts to limit confusion and prevent wandering. Community Relations Director Nicole Rojas-Vermes helps families learn about the place and get settled. Residents get nutritious meals tailored to dietary needs, and there's even on-site therapy and robust activity programs so people can stay active and have fun. Meals are prepared with care and the whole place tries to promote a comfortable lifestyle. Trustwell Living of Overland Park is a verified community and goes through regular reviews to keep up licensing; they run their place with a caring team that wants everyone to feel at home.
