    Professional, friendly staff; great rehab

I'm very pleased with my family's experience at Windship. The staff were professional, friendly, and responsive; therapy and nursing helped my parent recover and get back on their feet, and the team kept us informed and supported. The facility felt clean, welcoming, and well run-great meals, activities, and attentive care-so I recommend Windship for rehab or long-term care.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews reflect a facility with clear strengths in clinical rehabilitation, caregiver attentiveness, and hospitality services alongside recurring operational inconsistencies. Many families and residents praised the staff for compassion and professionalism, singled out the therapy team as effective in restoring mobility after injury, and complimented the dining program — including frequent praise for the chef and meal variety. Positive comments also highlight a generally clean, well-maintained building with pleasant private rooms and a welcoming communal atmosphere supported by organized events and regular housekeeping and laundry services.

Clinical care impressions are largely favorable for short-term rehabilitation: reviewers described focused admission assessments, coordinated therapy goals, and successful discharges home. Nursing and direct-care aides receive numerous commendations for responsiveness and personal attention, and several accounts indicate that hospice coordination and family support were handled sensitively. The facility’s infection-control practices during the pandemic were also noted positively by multiple reviewers.

At the same time, there are notable patterns that prospective residents and families should evaluate. Staffing consistency emerged as a recurring operational concern — particularly during late afternoons and overnight periods — with impacts on responsiveness and timely assistance. Housekeeping and bathroom maintenance were described as uneven in some areas, and a subset of reviews raised odor and sanitation concerns in specific rooms or common areas. Dining experiences were not uniform: while many praised the food, others described meals they found unacceptable, suggesting variability in meal preparation or delivery across shifts or units.

Communication and operational issues are another theme. Several reviewers described delays or lapses in family communication, challenges obtaining nursing attention at busy times, and restrictive visitor-access procedures or limited visitor amenities. There are also accounts that imply variability in behavioral management for residents with cognitive impairment during nighttime hours. More serious claims appear in a small number of reviews — including allegations of significant incidents and concerns following a resident’s death and statements about employee-payroll disputes — which merit direct inquiry and, where appropriate, review of regulatory inspection records.

In sum, Winship Green Center demonstrates strong capabilities in rehabilitation, individualized caregiving, and hospitality, with many families reporting positive outcomes and supportive staff. However, the facility also shows variability in operational consistency — staffing patterns, sanitation, dining, family communication, and some aspects of management and employee relations — that could materially affect an individual’s experience. Prospective residents and their families should tour the facility, observe staffing at different times of day, ask for current staffing ratios and recent inspection or complaint histories, review therapy scheduling practices, and clarify visitor policies and end-of-life care procedures before making a placement decision.

About Winship Green Center for Health & Rehabilitation

Winship Green Center for Health & Rehabilitation sits at 51 Winship Street in Bath, Maine and has about every care option you can think of for folks who need skilled nursing, short or long-term care, memory care, rehab, or even just a bit of help in their day-to-day living, plus they've got home health care certified by Medicare, which really makes things easier for people who want to age in place. Some folks go there after a hospital stay for post-acute rehabilitation, while others stay longer when they need daily care for chronic illness or disability, and you'll find that staff are around 24 hours a day, always trying to make a person feel supported in a homelike setting that doesn't feel cold or crowded, and they're careful to look after everyone's recovery and well-being. There's a special focus on therapy and palliative care, with treatment plans built for each individual, and you don't see many places that take palliative services as seriously, so that helps a lot for people with advanced needs. Memory care services stand out too, as the staff here have training for dementia and Alzheimer's, so residents get the help and respect they deserve, and the place pays attention to comfort, offering both private and shared rooms with clean, comfortable furnishings, along with access to outdoor spaces if you want some fresh air or a peaceful moment. They've also got a wide range of daily activities and events that are put together to keep people engaged, inspired and active, which is something that helps folks feel a sense of community even if they're there short-term. The center was recognized with the McKnight's Excellence in Technology Award, thanks to their partnership with Circadia Health, which shows they use up-to-date technology to monitor residents' health and safety, and the Passport™ approach creates a patient-centered plan that really tries to get at what each resident wants and needs. With visiting hours from 8 am to 8 pm and an option for virtual visits, families can stay connected. Behind the scenes, everything's run by National Health Care Associates, and the staff have a reputation for compassion and dedication, while the facility itself has received a "Certified Great Place to Work" distinction, probably because employees seem to stick around and work as a team. The center keeps its doors open every day, and stays focused on helping folks become a better, brighter, and stronger version of themselves, whether they need just a little bit of support or full, round-the-clock care.
