    Caring, home-like community with friends

I moved my mother here and she's been treated like family - caring, experienced staff in a clean, home-like community. The housing and services are excellent: spacious apartments with walk-in closets, washer/dryer and private baths, good meals, and a lively activities program with volunteers and post-COVID events where she's made many friends. I'm very satisfied and would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Shepherd of Grace Senior Community is presented consistently as a family-oriented, well-maintained community with a strong social environment and generally high resident satisfaction. Review content emphasizes compassionate caregiving, long-term resident contentment, and a homelike atmosphere supported by active programming and volunteer involvement. Many residents and families described feeling secure and socially engaged there.

Care and staff: Care quality is described positively overall, with experienced case managers and caregivers who establish close, supportive relationships with residents. Management is characterized as client-oriented and responsive. At the same time, the reviews indicate operational gaps to monitor: some overnight staff are perceived as less consistently compassionate, and residents may not always receive the level of one-on-one engagement they or their families expect. The practice of having care staff perform housekeeping tasks in cottages and assisted-living areas appears to be an operational feature—this can contribute to continuity and familiarity but may also create role-conflict pressures that affect time available for direct care.

Dining and activities: Dining is generally praised; reviewers highlight good-quality food and a meal-plan feature that includes ten complimentary meals per month. Activities were described as improving since COVID-related restrictions were lifted, with a variety of programmed options (games, bingo and social events) and active volunteer involvement. The community’s programming contributes to social connection and resident satisfaction.

Facilities and amenities: Physical accommodations receive positive mention: spacious apartments with long walk-in closets, large living areas, built-in kitchens and in-unit washer/dryer units. The community is described as clean and well cared for, with proximity to a local church noted as a convenience for some residents. A facility-level limitation that appears repeatedly is limited in-unit bathing options—private bathrooms are present but reviewers noted the absence of in-room showers, which may be important for prospective residents with specific mobility or bathing needs.

Management and notable patterns: Leadership and frontline teams are framed as caring and resident-focused, and many families described strong social networks forming within the community. Operational themes for prospective families to evaluate further include overnight staffing practices and training (especially for dementia-specific needs), the balance between caregiving and housekeeping responsibilities, and policies that affect individualized engagement time. These are not framed as systemic failures but as areas where practices vary and where asking specific questions during tours or care planning discussions would be prudent.

Recommendation guidance: Shepherd of Grace appears well suited to individuals seeking a family-like, activity-rich environment with solid apartment amenities and supportive staff. Prospective residents and families should verify bathing and mobility accommodations, discuss overnight staffing and dementia-care training practices, and clarify how individualized engagement needs will be met given the community’s staffing and role structures.

About Shepherd of Grace Senior Community

Shepherd of Grace Senior Community sits on 11175 27th Avenue Southeast in Becker, Minnesota, serving people aged 55 and older who want to live mostly on their own but still get help when they need it, so you'll find apartments with private bathrooms and kitchenettes in studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom layouts, and they've got Wi-Fi, cable, and air conditioning, plus outdoor gardens, walking paths, and places to gather with friends or enjoy some quiet if that's more your style, and there's always someone around because they offer 12 to 16 hours of daily nursing care, a 24-hour call system, and full-time supervision, so people get help with dressing, bathing, medication, or just moving about as needed, and they even have care for folks living with memory issues or needing skilled nursing or dementia supports, which makes it possible for someone to stay as care needs grow, so there's no need for a big move later on.

Folks can join in scheduled activities every day, like painting, games, church, music groups, exercise classes with a trained wellness coordinator, or help running church or choir if that's something they want, and there are planned day trips, resident-run programs, fitness and art rooms, gardens, a small library, a beauty salon, a computer center, and outdoor spots to spend time with family or just catch some sun. Residents have easy-to-understand mealtime plans, sit-down dining with food made by a chef, and catered community meals where dietary needs such as diabetes or allergies are considered, and the kitchen even offers made-to-order pizzas with all sorts of toppings and a fridge stocked by their "Lettuce Shop For You" program with basics like milk, bread, fruit, pies, and cookies, so getting everyday groceries is just a matter of asking at the pantry.

Transportation runs for both medical appointments and non-medical errands, so folks without a car can get around Becker or nearby towns without fuss, and there's parking for those who still drive. Family members get support with move-in coordination and updates, while residents can take advantage of housecleaning, laundry, linen services, and in-unit appliances that make daily chores a little easier. Therapy services like physical or occupational therapy are available on site, and nurses are on staff part-time in addition to on-call care, so help is nearby for health problems or medication reminders.

Shepherd of Grace offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, home care within the apartment, and skilled nursing services, so people can arrange the amount of support that fits best, and everything runs with a spirit of service, trust, and respect, trying to make life feel both meaningful and independent, but still connected. The facility is known for a warm, small-town feeling and encourages people to join group activities or keep to their own space, depending on what suits them, and there's even respite care available, so primary caregivers can get a short break if needed. Shepherd of Grace accepts Medicaid and Medicare, as well as private payment options, and has a high community rating, standing out in the Becker area for the range of care, daily programs, and personal touches like church services, group meals, and small conveniences that add up to a hassle-free lifestyle.
