    Homey community with attentive staff

I'm very satisfied with this smaller, homey community - the staff (Katie Rideout stood out on our tour) are attentive, caring, and proactive. My parent's spacious one-bed apartment is clean and comfortable with a good menu they enjoy, and rehab care was positive. The long-tenured activities team keeps residents engaged with rotating programs (bingo, music, gardening, balloon volleyball, pontoon rides), and residents are friendly. Overall it feels safe, supportive, and well run.

    Summary of reviews

Cerenity Residence White Bear Lake presents as a smaller, home‑like assisted living community with consistently highlighted strengths in staff engagement, recreational programming, and apartment size. Families and residents frequently describe staff as attentive and communicative, with proactive check‑ins and a willingness to adjust care levels and pricing as needs change. Recreation services are noted as a particular strength: long‑tenured staff lead a varied calendar (chair exercises, music, bingo, balloon volleyball, gardening, animal visits, movie nights and seasonal outings such as pontoon rides), and residents report high levels of interaction and social opportunity.

Care quality and staff behavior are generally described positively — staff are characterized as compassionate, helpful, and involved with residents’ daily needs. Rehabilitation services receive favorable remarks in multiple accounts. At the same time, reviewers highlight operational patterns that families should weigh: there are repeated references to delays in call‑response and to medication timing inconsistencies, which suggest unevenness in day‑to‑day caregiving responsiveness. Administrative and insurance processes are another area of concern; reviewers described difficulties with paperwork, billing or coordination with insurers, and raised broader compliance and documentation questions.

Dining experiences are mixed. Several residents and family members compliment the menu and say their loved ones enjoy meals, but others report inconsistent food quality, incorrect or cold orders, and unpalatable dishes leading some residents to supplement meals from outside. Facilities and housekeeping are generally described as clean and well‑kept in common areas, and apartments are frequently praised for being spacious and functional (many one‑bedroom units include kitchens and accessible bathrooms). However, intermittent cleanliness lapses (for example, overlooked trash or crumbs) and the community’s older building fabric and smaller unit footprints are noted. Outdoor grounds are limited, and some residents find unit locations require a longer internal walk from common areas.

Management‑level themes include reasonable pricing and perceived value relative to competitors, plus high occupancy with a waiting list. Prospective residents should expect a community with active programming and close staff contact, but also plan to ask targeted questions about meal consistency, medication administration protocols, response times to call systems, housekeeping schedules, and administrative/insurance workflows. Overall, Cerenity Residence White Bear Lake appears to offer a supportive, socially active environment with strong interpersonal staff strengths, alongside operational areas — food service consistency, medication timing, cleanliness oversight, and administrative processes — that warrant clarification during touring and contracting.

About Cerenity Residence White Bear Lake

Cerenity Residence White Bear Lake sits in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and has 43 apartments designed for seniors aged 55 and older who need different levels of care, whether it's assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or short-term respite care, so folks who want to be as independent as possible but could use some extra support seem to find their needs met here, and there's a month-to-month lease arrangement, too. The building has three floors, and the one-bedroom or two-bedroom apartments come with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, basic appliances, storage space, and living rooms, plus there are options for both private and shared suites in the memory care unit, which accepts Medical Assistance payments and supports people all the way through late-stage dementia. Every day, staff check in to make sure everyone's okay, and there's someone on site 24/7; a nurse and specialized staff help create care plans that fit each resident's needs and encourage as much independence as possible, and there's a full range of care services right on campus, from skilled nursing and medication reminders to hospice and rehabilitation therapy.

Meals are provided three times a day in the dining room, but room service is available and there's a guest meal option if someone has visitors. Residents enjoy weekly housekeeping, in-building laundry, linen services, and scheduled van transportation for shopping or errands, and basic transportation's included, though additional outings and rides can be arranged for a cost. People can park at the facility by arranging ahead, and the building allows both dogs and cats with a pet deposit, so those who wish to keep their furry friends close can do so. Common areas have WiFi, cable TV, exercise programs, a resident's lounge, a sunroom or screened porch, a library, and there's a game room and community room for socializing, plus organized games, arts and crafts, music, fitness and wellness activities, and horticultural programs to keep hands and minds busy. Outdoor spaces include a garden courtyard with raised flower beds, outdoor walking paths, a patio, and nearby neighborhood park, all good for spending time outdoors during warmer weather, and patio spaces overlook grassy areas with trees for some peace and quiet.

For spiritual needs, there's an interfaith chapel on site, regular religious and devotional services, Bible studies, Rosary sessions, and a full-time Spiritual Care Director. A salon or barber service is on hand for personal grooming. The community is smoke-free indoors, with common areas and resident rooms set up to feel comfortable and homey. The residence is connected by a walkway to nearby long-term and transitional care services, and features a well-known therapy department, which even includes a therapy pool for those needing rehab after injury or surgery. The variety of services covers almost everything someone might need as they age-memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, skilled nursing for complex medical needs, respite care for post-surgery recovery, and aging-in-place options so residents don't have to move as their needs change.

Residents and their guests can enjoy restaurant-style dining, and there's a strong sense of a warm, respectful community where neighbors often come from White Bear Lake itself. Security and wellbeing are priorities, with a $1,000 security deposit and a second person fee, and there's a structured program so people can maintain a high quality of life with plenty of activities, inside and out, and support whenever it's needed, all in a setting that honors each person's body, mind, and spirit. About Benedictine

Cerenity Residence White Bear Lake is managed by Benedictine.

Benedictine, established in 1985 by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery in Duluth, Minnesota, has grown into one of the largest Catholic senior living organizations in the United States, operating over 35 communities across Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Missouri. With annual revenues reaching billion, approximately 5,000 employees, and over million of senior living assets under management, this faith-based nonprofit organization has experienced significant expansion from a single skilled nursing facility to a multi-state healthcare network through strategic acquisitions, partnerships, sponsorship transitions, and joint ventures.

Under the leadership of President and CEO Jerry Carley, who joined in 2018 bringing over 35 years of senior care experience, Benedictine has maintained its position as an industry leader while preserving its Catholic heritage and mission-driven focus. Carley's leadership has earned significant recognition, including being named to The Minnesota 500 as one of the state's most powerful executives (2018-2020) and designation as one of Minnesota's Most Influential Health Care Leaders by Minnesota Physician Magazine in 2020. His extensive background includes previous roles as president and CEO of CSJ Initiatives and service on LeadingAge Minnesota's board of directors, where he serves as Chair.

Benedictine's innovative memory care program exemplifies their commitment to specialized care through two distinct neighborhoods: Tabitha, named after Sister Tabitha who was the first woman to head a hospital setting, which serves residents with mild to moderate memory loss, and Pauline, honoring Sister Pauline who devoted her life to dementia care, providing specialized support for those with moderate to advanced dementia. These research-based programs employ best practices in dementia care, offering engaging activities, personalized care plans, and family integration support. The organization's comprehensive service continuum extends to Adult Day Programs in Duluth and Winona, providing daytime respite care with trained memory care staff, while facilities like Benedictine Minneapolis specialize in complex medical care including tracheostomy and ventilator support.

The organization's care philosophy centers on nurturing mind, body, and spirit, rooted in Benedictine values of Hospitality, Stewardship, Respect, and Justice. This holistic approach emphasizes listening with the "ear of the heart," creating welcoming environments where unique needs are respected and each person's spirituality is honored. Through comprehensive rehabilitation services, spiritual care programs led by Director of Spiritual Care Rev. J. Scott Cartwright, and purposeful recreation incorporating art, music therapy, and movement, Benedictine continues the healthcare ministry begun by the Benedictine Sisters over a century ago. Recent strategic decisions, including the 2024 transition of Benedictine Living Community-Wausau to The Ensign Group, demonstrate the organization's commitment to ensuring sustainable, high-quality care while adapting to evolving market dynamics and maintaining their mission of empowering older adults to live to their highest potential.
