    Compassionate, professional care; safe, trusted

I'm very pleased with the compassionate, professional care my loved one received-attentive nurses (S. Hamm, Wendy, Cheryl), a strong rehab team, and outstanding daily activities by Simone made the transition smooth. The facility feels safe, clean and cozy with large rooms and bathrooms, great food, easy visitor sign-in and daily laundry; the staff's dedication and personal touch make this a place I trust and would recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of New Jersey Eastern Star Rehabilitation and Nursing present a mixed but informative picture for prospective residents and families. Strengths center on clinical and rehabilitative care, a comfortable physical environment, and robust activity and support services. Operational weaknesses cluster around cleanliness consistency, communication and admissions transparency, staffing variability, and some payer-related discharge dynamics.

Care quality and staff: Many accounts praise the nursing team as compassionate and attentive, and several families described strong, personalized support from nurses and aides. The facility's rehabilitation department is frequently highlighted as professional and effective, with therapists and equipment that support good outcomes. At the same time, reviewers described uneven responsiveness at times—notably slower attention during night shifts and delays in returning family calls or email—indicating variability in day-to-day responsiveness despite overall competent clinical care.

Rehabilitation and clinical services: The facility's therapy program and medical offerings are seen as a major asset; reviewers noted state-of-the-art equipment and professional therapists. However, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent delivery of scheduled therapy sessions and instances where discharge timing or decisions appeared tied to Medicare coverage or payer issues. A few reviewers also questioned the appropriateness of certain supplied equipment, suggesting variability in clinical-supply practices.

Dining and activities: Dining receives generally positive comments, with several mentions of well-liked meals and notable soups. The activities program is described as engaging and well-run, with dedicated staff organizing daily programming. Ancillary services such as daily personal laundry and an easy-to-use visitor sign-in system are cited as helpful conveniences that contribute to family confidence.

Facilities and housekeeping: The physical facility is described positively: hotel-like private rooms, large bathrooms, and clean, cozy common areas. Nonetheless, there are specific sanitation and housekeeping inconsistencies at the room level (missing toiletries, unclean surfaces, and similar issues) that families should verify on admission. Overall cleanliness appears strong in common areas but less consistent in some resident rooms.

Management, admissions, and safety: Reviews indicate mixed experiences with admissions and management. Positive notes include approachable administration and a sense of safety due to visible screening procedures. Conversely, several accounts characterize the admissions process as opaque, with limited upfront explanation of eligibility rules and occasional unhelpful interactions. Security measures (for example, strict screening protocols) increase a sense of safety for some families while being perceived as intrusive by others. Management responsiveness to complaints is variable across accounts.

Notable patterns and considerations: The facility is regarded highly by many families for rehabilitation, nursing compassion, facilities, and activities. Recurrent concerns are operational rather than clinical in nature—housekeeping consistency, communication and transparency around admissions and discharge, night staffing responsiveness, and payer-influenced discharge timing. Prospective residents and families should consider clarifying admissions and discharge criteria, asking about night staffing levels and therapy schedules, and inspecting room housekeeping protocols during touring or admission to align expectations with current operational practices.

About New Jersey Eastern Star Rehabilitation and Nursing

New Jersey Eastern Star Rehabilitation and Nursing, sometimes called New Jersey Eastern Star Home, has served Central Jersey since 1957 as a not-for-profit skilled nursing center right on fourteen peaceful acres in Bridgewater Township, New Jersey, and folks have said it's a fixture around here with its long tradition of offering care with compassion and professionalism. The facility provides rehabilitation, sub-acute care, long-term care, respite care, residential accommodations, and skilled nursing services, all tailored to the needs of each person, whether they need help recovering from surgery, managing a chronic condition, or a place to call home for the long run. You'll find a calm, healing environment with both private and semi-private rooms, fully furnished with basics like a single bed, dresser, desk, and plenty of space, and there are even spacious private rooms with full baths for those who want more privacy, which is nice because everyone wants a place that feels familiar and comfortable. Residents here get daily support with personal care, meals, medication, housekeeping, laundry, and there's always a friendly, trained staff ready to help out, including licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, a Director of Activities, and an administrator with several certifications.

The grounds are especially pleasant, featuring an award-winning garden with a bubbling fountain, arbors, a secluded gazebo, and walking paths built with wheelchairs and walkers in mind, where folks can spend time outdoors, sit with friends by the bistro seating, and enjoy some fresh air. Inside the building, you'll find wide, comfortable common areas with modern furnishings, multiple fireplaces, and free Wi-Fi so folks can relax, socialize, or keep up with family. There's a full calendar of activities-arts, exercise, games, crafts, music, and frequent events-and a beauty salon on site, so staying active and connected isn't hard, especially with organized trips out in the facility's multi-passenger van to shops, cultural spots, and entertainment venues in the area, which can really brighten someone's week. The meals are provided daily from a rotating menu, and residents have access to special dietary needs.

The rehabilitation department runs physical, occupational, and speech therapy right there on site, seven days a week, so folks can get back on their feet or keep their skills up without leaving the building, and each resident's care plan is individualized to fit what's needed most. Respite care-both short-term and overnight-lets families take a break while residents get expert care, especially after surgery or an illness. Medical care includes regular visits from doctors, medication administration, IV therapy, wound care, fall prevention, and access to medical specialists as needed, so both simple and complex needs get met without a fuss. The staff uses modern tech like the Nursa app to keep everything running and to support shifts and profiles, which keeps daily operations smoother for everyone involved.

New Jersey Eastern Star Home has a longstanding reputation in the community for high-quality outcomes and is Medicaid certified, and it's known for being especially welcoming and supportive, including to the LGBTQIA+ community. Safety and health are priorities, with responses in place for COVID-19 and well-practiced fall prevention measures. People often say the facility feels like a home away from home, with its focus on belonging and compassionate care, always working to make sure both residents and their families feel included and supported, and over the years, it's earned recognition as a Five-Star Nursing Home in Central New Jersey. There are always opportunities to join their team, enjoy the community events, and look at a gallery that shows a glimpse into daily life, and each suite allows a bit of personality to shine through as residents settle in, which can make a big difference in feeling settled and cared for as the years go by.
