    Exceptional caring staff; family-like community

I'm very pleased with this community - the staff are exceptional, low-turnover, and genuinely treat residents like family (Patricia, Simone and Kerry stood out). My mom is smiling again at bowling, art and other thoughtfully planned activities; volunteers and attentive care managers keep her engaged and safe. The facility is beautiful and spotless, dining is top-notch, and regular photo updates give us real peace of mind. I'll definitely be using this place for my dad.

    Summary of reviews

Sunrise of Cresskill presents as an upscale, well-appointed senior community with consistently praised physical amenities: attractive architecture, manicured grounds, bright public spaces and clean, well‑maintained apartments often featuring in‑unit washers/dryers and full kitchens. Families and residents frequently highlight the resort- or hotel‑like atmosphere, accessible parking, and a broad set of on‑site amenities (exercise room, movie and music rooms, spa, courtyard) that support an active lifestyle.

Care quality and staffing elicit mixed but specific patterns. Many accounts emphasize compassionate, attentive caregivers and care managers who build family‑like relationships and provide reassuring communication, particularly in memory care. At the same time, recurring comments point to inconsistent staffing levels and variability in staff engagement; reviewers describe periods when coverage or responsiveness felt strained. These operational gaps appear to be associated with occasional delays in routine assistance and variability in the tone and attentiveness of some frontline staff.

Dining is generally described as plentiful and varied, with large dining rooms, salad bars and multiple entree choices; some residents enjoy the experience and nutrition programs are noted as following clinical guidance when needed. However, there are repeated concerns about meal temperature and inconsistent food quality for some residents, and families should clarify service standards and any extra charges related to bathing, special services, or private chef options.

Activity programming is a clear strength in breadth: scheduled group activities, lectures, arts, games, bowling and volunteer engagement are frequently mentioned and provide daily structure and social opportunities. That said, some residents — particularly those who are more physically active or seeking more diverse programming — find certain offerings repetitive or insufficiently stimulating. In addition, a few reviewers described activity spaces that feel small or concentrated, which can limit simultaneous programming.

Facilities maintenance and cleanliness are generally strong in reviews, but isolated sanitation concerns affecting equipment and certain communal items were raised and should be explored during a visit. Memory care is often described positively, with attentive staff and dedicated programming, though one should confirm the specific memory‑care activities available and how those differ from assisted living offerings.

Management and financial practices show a split pattern. Admissions staff and some unit managers receive praise for being welcoming and informative, yet multiple families reported administrative friction around billing, mid‑year price increases, prorating and communication during transitions. Several reviews also reference leadership turnover, which can contribute to uneven administrative follow‑through. Prospective residents should request clear, written fee schedules and change‑of‑service policies and ask about recent turnover and staffing stability.

Overall, Sunrise of Cresskill is frequently recommended for families seeking a polished, amenity‑rich environment with many social offerings and a generally compassionate care team. The main tradeoffs to evaluate on a personal tour are current staffing ratios and engagement levels, fee transparency and billing practices, meal quality and temperature controls, and specific sanitation protocols for mobility aids and shared equipment. Asking for recent staffing metrics, sample menus, a full activity calendar, and written service/fee agreements will help determine whether the community matches an individual resident’s clinical needs and lifestyle expectations.

    About Sunrise of Cresskill

Sunrise of Cresskill sits at 3 Tenakill Park E, Cresskill, NJ, and you'll find it's a three-level mansion with peaceful, wooded views, and sometimes you might even spot deer wandering outside the windows while residents are gathered in living rooms, sitting areas, or in the bistro café that stays open 24 hours. The staff here offer many types of support like independent living, assisted living, memory care-with special programs like Reminiscence and Terrace Club-skilled nursing, respite for short-term stays, hospice care, and what they call Dignity Home Care, so families have options whatever the need might be. There are trained team members available at all hours and a nurse on staff who stops in for monthly wellness checks, while the Designated Care Managers help each person follow their own service plan that fits their daily needs and preferences, whether that's help with medication, reminders, or mobility support. Folks can pick from private or semi-private studio, one-bedroom, and two-room suite apartments, though the details about each apartment's interior are limited, but they do have things like bedrooms, bathrooms, closets, sitting areas, and either a kitchen or kitchenette, alongside an emergency call system for safety and elevators if someone needs them. The grounds have patios for enjoying the outdoors, plus enclosed courtyards, and there's on-site parking for residents, though it isn't clear exactly what parking setups or outdoor area features look like. Everyone gets weekly housekeeping, laundry, daily trash removal, and if needed, dry cleaning, so chores are mostly taken care of, and cable and internet are available, though some utility details aren't spelled out. When it comes time to eat, the community serves up to three balanced meals a day plus snacks, using fresh, local ingredients, and there are lots of menu choices for special diets-vegan, low sodium, or low sugar-either in a formal dining room or the more relaxed bistro café, and guests can join at mealtime as well. Social and leisure opportunities are all over, with community rooms, activity programs, outings, an arts and crafts center, and events for fun and learning, and you'll find features like a grand piano, a café with a wooden bar and jukebox, games and movies, and even a beauty salon for residents. They're pet-friendly, so residents can have animal companions, and there's scheduled transportation plus easy access to bus lines for appointments or outings around town. Special care programs support those with dementia, using sensory activities like snoezelen or reminiscence therapy, and religious services include Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish options. This community aims for an environment where folks can age in place-from independent living to memory care or skilled nursing-while staff keep both residents and their families updated through a family engagement app, and if someone wants to stay at home, home health and hospice can be arranged as well. The mansion is set up with lots of common areas for residents to gather, chat, or just rest, and the mix of indoor comforts with outdoor greenspace makes it a place where many lifestyles can fit peacefully.
